Introduction
The D-Link DFE-530TX+ is a 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet 32-bit PCI Adapter for desktops, workstations, and servers. The DFE-
530TX+ supports a wide range of operating systems including Macintosh and Windows®.
With support for IEEE802.3 and IEEE 802.3u standards, the DFE-530TX+ supports 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX networks. The
DFE-530TX+ utilizes auto-negotiation to automatically adjust to the highest supported transfer rates up of to 200Mbps in full
duplex mode.
D-Link’s DFE-530TX+ also supports optional advanced networking support features likeWake-On-LAN and Boot ROM. Computers
and operating systems that support the Advanced Conguration and Power Interface (ACPI) can remotely wake your PC from
anywhere on the network with Wake-On-LAN. With the addition of an optional Boot ROM with PXE support, the DFE-530TX+
can support network booting of supported operating systems.

connection to your Ethernet device. A
blinking light indicates data is being
transmitted (sending or receiving).
Speed
When lit, the device speed is 100Mbps. If the light
is not lit, the device speed is 10Mbps.

Warning: Do NOT install the DFE-530TX+ PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter into your computer before installing the driver
software from the D-Link CD.
Step 1 - Turn on the computer and Insert the D-Link DFE-530TX+ Driver CD in the CD-ROM drive.
If the CD Autorun function does not automatically start on your computer, go to Start > Run. In the command box type
“D:\DFE530TX+.exe” (where D: represents the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive).
Drivers for non-Windows® operating systems are located on the D-Link CD.
Installation
Step 2 - When the autorun screen appears, click Install Drivers.
An Installation Wizard will guide you through the process.
This process will install drivers and software.
Step 3 - Once the installation is complete, click OK to nish.

Note: Write down the serial number and hardware revision (e.g. G1) of the adapter
before installing. If you contact technical support, you will need this information.
Step 4 - Install the DFE-530TX+ into your computer.
a. Shut down the computer, unplug its power cord, and remove
the chassis cover. Note that opening the case of your computer
may compromise the warranty of your computer. Consult the
computer manufacturer before opening the case to ensure that
you adhere to warranty guidelines.
b. Insert the contact edge of the DFE-530TX+ card into the
connector of any available PCI slot. Press the card rmly into
the connector such that the card’s contacts are fully seated in
the connector.
c. Install the bracket screw that secures the card to the computer
chassis.
d. Replace the computer’s chassis cover. Connect an Ethernet
cable from the adapter to your router, switch or Ethernet device.
e. Plug in the power cable and power on your computer.
Step 5 - Once you boot your computer, Windows® will automatically install the drivers.You will receive a bubble stating Windows
has nished installing the DFE-530TX+ adapter.
Step 6 - Please refer to the user manual on the supplied CD-ROM for more information on conguring your adapter and
advanced features.

To verify that the drivers are installed, you may view Device Manager.
To view the device manager, please follow the steps below:
Step 1:
Windows Vista®: Click on Start > Control Panel
Windows® 8/7: Click on Start > Control Panel
Step 2:
Windows Vista®: Click on the System and Maintenance icon and
then click on Device Manager.
Windows® 8/7: Click on the System and Security icon and then click
on Device Manager under System.
Step 3:
Scroll down and click the plus (+) sign next to Network Adapters.
The D-Link DFE-530TX+ PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (rev.G2) will be
listed.

Make sure that the DFE-530TX+ PCI Adapter is properly seated in the computer’s PCI slot.
If Windows® does not detect the hardware upon insertion of the adapter, make sure to completely remove drivers that were
previously loaded.
2. The computer does not recognize the DFE-530TX+ PCI Adapter.
Troubleshooting
This chapter provides solutions to problems that can occur during the installation and operation of the DFE-530TX+. Read the
following descriptions if you are having problems.
3. Why aren’t there any link lights lit on my D-Link PCI Network Adapter?
If you do not have any lights lit on your D-Link adapter, try the following:
• Make sure drivers are loaded OK in device manager. If there is a yellow exclamation mark, then the drivers are not loaded
properly.
• Verify that the adapter is correctly seated all the way down in PCI slot.
• Try a dierent PCI slot.
• Try a dierent Ethernet cable. If you pinned the cable yourself, please try a store-bought cable.
• Try a shorter Ethernet cable.
• Disable any other network adapters.
Please refer to the previous page to verify your adapter was installed properly.

4. What is Wake On Lan (WOL)?
Wake On LAN provides remote wake-up technology which enables systems to be remotely powered “on” for o hours tasks.
A result of the Intel-IBM Advanced Manageability Alliance and part of the Wired for Management Baseline Specication,
this technology helps save time on automated software installations, upgrades, disk backups and virus scans. Wake on LAN
technology resides in a managed network adapter and on the system motherboard.

Fast Ethernet is a network technology specied by IEEE Standard 802.3u. It extends the traditional 10Mbps Ethernet technology
to achieve 100Mbps transmission and reception, while retaining the same CSMA/CD Ethernet protocol. Thus, while Fast Ethernet
provides a tenfold increase in network capacity, it is wholly compatible with traditional 10Mbps Ethernet network facilities. This
compatibility is the key to easy and ecient upgrades to 100Mbps in your network areas needing greater bandwidth. Upgrading
selected areas to Fast Ethernet does not require hardware or software changes in network areas where traditional 10Mbps Ethernet
is providing good service. For upgrading, Fast Ethernet is the clear choice in terms of cost-eectiveness, as well as convenience
and smoothness in transition.
Category 5 cabling is required for 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet in order to provide full duplex operation. Full duplex 100Base-TX
operation allows simultaneous transmission and reception, both at 100Mbps, thus providing service potentially equal to 200Mbps
full-duplex service.
To provide compatibility in traditional 10Mbps Ethernet environments (where, for example, DFE-530TX+ adapters are installed
anticipating upgrade of supporting switch equipment to Fast Ethernet), the DFE-530TX+ also supports traditional 10Mbps
Ethernet operation, in full-duplex as well as half-duplex modes. Selection of the best operation mode in any given installation is
automatically governed by auto-negotiation.

Auto-Negotiation
You have probably had the experience of making a dial-up connection through a modem, and have heard the sound exchange
between your modem and the modem at the other end of the telephone line. As unpleasant as those few seconds of noise may
be, they do let you know that your modem and the remote modem are on the job, preparing for your intended communication
with the remote computer.
When the two modems have tested the phone-line quality and settled on the combination of shared options and parameters
which will provide the best data communication over the connecting phone line, then you are given the “connect” message
which signals the end of the inter-modem negotiation and the beginning of your intended communication with the remote
computer.
Auto-negotiation between devices within an Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN) is similar in concept, but much briefer. The
two devices involved in the auto-negotiation will be the DFE-530TX+ Adapter serving your station (installed in your computer),
and the switch through which it is connected to the LAN. The options to be negotiated between the DFE-530TX+ and its
supporting switch includes Ethernet type (100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet or 10BASE-T Ethernet) and duplex mode (half-duplex,
being one-way-at-a-time, or full-duplex, being simultaneous transmit-and receive.)
Startup communication between the two devices occurs when both devices are powered up. Once the cable connection and
the Network Operating System software is satised, the preparatory process of auto-negotiation between the DFE-530TX+
and its supporting switch proceeds automatically. If the switch has auto-negotiation functionality, it and the DFE-530TX+
exchange a series of messages, each device signals its capabilities and listens for corresponding information about the other.
The auto-negotiation process requires only a few milliseconds, and the two devices select the best communication parameters
supported by both.
If the switch does not support auto-negotiation, the (single capability) message will be recognized by the DFE-530TX+ auto-
negotiation facility, which will switch to those settings of its own capabilities, which match that of the switch.
Auto-negotiation reoccurs any time the linkage is restored, making the line ready again for optimal data communications.

PCI Bus
Your DFE-530TX+ Adapter delivers outstanding performance by fully exploiting the advance features of your computer’s PCI
bus. DFE-530TX+ Adapters utilize the Bus Master Mode of the PCI bus, allowing direct transfers of Ethernet packet content
between computer memory and the adapter’s controller, thus minimizing network demands on the CPU.The adapter’s controller
function provides the additional benet of reduced command processing overhead.
The working relationship between a DFE-530TX+ adapter and main memory working in Bus Master mode is powered by the
Bridge/Memory Controller of the PCI bus.This reduces the CPU role in network operations, thus freeing the CPU to service other
tasks, with resulting improvement in overall computing (multitasking) performance. At the same time, it produces superior
network throughput by reducing latency (waiting for CPU service) during transmissions and receptions.
The DFE-530TX+ implements IEEE 802.3x compliant ow control for full-duplex, which provides trac management functions
for full-duplex operation. Flow control allows for enhanced full-duplex operation with switches.When operating at full-duplex
(requiring a direct connection to a switch) and the switch’s data buer is about to overow, a Pause frame will be transmitted to
the DFE-530TX+.The ensuing idle time keeps the buer from overowing and prevents data from being lost.This enhancement
can improve network throughput, avoid collisions and prevent lost data, helping the network achieve optimal performance.

Networking Basics
Check your IP address
Windows® 7/Vista® Users
• Click Start, type cmd in the search box and then click OK.
• At the prompt, type ipcong and press Enter.
• This will display the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway of
your adapter.
If the address is 0.0.0.0, check your adapter installation, security settings, and the settings on your router. Some rewall software programs may
block a DHCP request on newly installed adapters.
Windows® 8 Users
• Press the Windows key and Rtogether. Type cmd in the box and
click OK.
• At the prompt, type ipcong and press Enter.
• This will display the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway
of your adapter.
After you install your new D-Link wireless adapter and have established a wireless connection, by default, theTCP/IP settings should be set to obtain
an IP address from a DHCP server (i.e., router) automatically. To verify your IP address, please follow the steps below.

Statically Assign an IP address
Windows®8 Users
• Press the Windows key and then type IP. Click Settings on the right side and
then click View Network Connections.
• Right-click on the adapter which represents your D-Link wireless network adapter.
• Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP /IPv4) and click Properties.
• Click Use the following IP address and enter an IP address that is on the same
subnet as your network or LAN IP address on your router or network.
Example: If the router’s LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1, make your IP address
192.168.0.X where X is a number between 2 and 99. Make sure that the number
you choose is not in use on the network.
• Set Default Gateway the same as the LAN IP address of your router or gateway.
• Set Primary DNS the same as the LAN IP address of your router or gateway.
• The Secondary DNS is optional (you may enter a DNS server from your ISP).
• Click OK to save your settings.
If you are not using a DHCP capable gateway/router, or you need to assign a static IP address, please follow the steps below:

• Click on Start > Control Panel (make sure you are in Classic View). Double-click
on the Network and Sharing Center icon. If you are usingWindowsVista, click on
Manage network connections along the left panel in the window. ForWindows®
7, click on Change adapter settings.
• Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your D-Link wireless
network adapter which will be connected to your network.
• Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP /IPv4) and click Properties.
• Click Use the following IP address and enter an IP address that is on the same
subnet as your network or LAN IP address on your router or network.
Example: If the router’s LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1, make your IP address
192.168.0.X where X is a number between 2 and 99. Make sure that the number

Appendix E - Warranty
Warranty
Subject to the terms and conditions set forth herein, D-Link Systems, Inc. (“D-Link”) provides this Limited Warranty:
• Only to the person or entity that originally purchased the product from D-Link or its authorized reseller or distributor, and
• Only for products purchased and delivered within the fty states of the United States, the District of Columbia, U.S. Possessions
or Protectorates, U.S. Military Installations, or addresses with an APO or FPO.
Limited Warranty:
D-Link warrants that the hardware portion of the D-Link product described below (“Hardware”) will be free from material defects in workmanship
and materials under normal use from the date of original retail purchase of the product, for the period set forth below (“Warranty Period”), except
as otherwise stated herein.
• Hardware (excluding power supplies and fans) : One (1) year
• Power supplies and fans : One (1) year
• Spare parts and spare kits : Ninety (90) days
The customer’s sole and exclusive remedy and the entire liability of D-Link and its suppliers under this Limited Warranty will be, at D-Link’s
option, to repair or replace the defective Hardware during the Warranty Period at no charge to the original owner or to refund the actual purchase
price paid. Any repair or replacement will be rendered by D-Link at an Authorized D-Link Service Oce. The replacement hardware need not be
new or have an identical make, model or part. D-Link may, at its option, replace the defective Hardware or any part thereof with any reconditioned
product that D-Link reasonably determines is substantially equivalent (or superior) in all material respects to the defective Hardware. Repaired or
replacement hardware will be warranted for the remainder of the original Warranty Period or ninety (90) days, whichever is longer, and is subject to
the same limitations and exclusions. If a material defect is incapable of correction, or if D-Link determines that it is not practical to repair or replace
the defective Hardware, the actual price paid by the original purchaser for the defective Hardware will be refunded by D-Link upon return to D-Link
of the defective Hardware. All Hardware or part thereof that is replaced by D-Link, or for which the purchase price is refunded, shall become the
property of D-Link upon replacement or refund.
