VLT® 5000 INTERBUS
Tec nical overview.
Interbus intro uction
T e INTERBUS system is divided into two different
system: remote and local. T e remote system
enables t e user to connect up to 256 stations on a
single system wi t a maximum of 400m Cable
between eac station.
T e locale bus system enables t e user to establis
communication to Input/output devices t rou gt a
single twisted pair of Cables. T is type of
comunication is typical used t e simple devices E.g.
Digital I/O devices.
For Communication on t e remote bus t e
INTERBUS system provides two different types of
communication Process Data and PCP (Perip erals
Communication Protocol). T e Process Data is
cyclic communication to devices wit ig priority.
T is type of communication typically takes between
few milliseconds and up to 100 milliseconds,
depending on t e size of t e system. Example of
t is type of communication is digital & analogue I/O
or control word & reference to frequency
converters.
PCP communication are used for communications
needs t at does not require ig speed and and
typically only are activated on request from t e user
writen program. Typical time to read/write a single
value is 100 to 200 millisecond. Example of t is type
of communication is configurating Data, read of
service parameter suc as running ours, number
power up and KW .

different versions, one option t at serves t e purpose
of enabling a VLT®5000 to communicate on a
INTERBUS remote bus as a slave, and one version
t at enables t e VLT®5000 t at is equip wit a
Syncronising and positioning option to communicate
on a INTERBUS remote bus as a slave. As upgrade
kit t ere is also a set of Eproms available.
Field installation:
INTERBUS Option for field installation, complete set
including Interbus Communication unit, Memory
option, EMC Bracket, installation instruction,
manuals. T is kit is intended for field installation in
VLT5000 series, t at enables a VLT5000 to
communicate on a INTERBUS remote bus.
Ordering number: 175 3122
Synchronizing and positioning option:
INTERBUS Communication Option, as above, but
wi tout memory option. T is option is intended as
and INTERBUS Option to t e Sync ronizing and
positioning option, t at does not need a memory
option and as a spare part for damaged INTERBUS
Option.
Ordering number: 175 2900
Upgrade Kit:
INTERBUS Memory set. T is set contains a full
memory set (3 Pcs.) for t e INTERBUS option and
t e Memory board. T is Option serves as an
upgrade to t e latest version of t e VLT5000
software and t e INTERBUS Communication
option.T is options will not upgrade of t e
Sync ronising and positioning option. Please refere to
t e Sync ronising and positioning option Manual for
detailed information on ow to upgrade t is option.
Ordering number: 175 3123

Cable routing an connectors
recommended to keep t e greatest possible
distance between t e cables,or use fiber optic
Cables, especially w ere cables are running in
parallel over long distances.
If t e INTERBUS cable as to cross a motor or
brake resistor cable t ey must cross eac ot er
at an angle of 90° to ensure t e minimum of
interfrence.
- Connection of t e cable screen
T e screen of t e INTERBUS cable must
always be connected to ground at bot ends,
t at means t e screen must be connected to
ground in all stations connected to t e
INTERBUS network. It is of ig importance
to ave a low impedance ground connection
of t e screen, also at ig frequencies.T is
can be obtained by connecting t e surface of
t e screen to ground, for example by means
of a cable clamp or a conductive cable gland.
T e INTERBUS Option Card is connected to t e
remote bus line via MK 100A or MK 101A for t e
incomming INTERBUS cable. terminals 62, 63, 64,
65, and 66. to t e bus line via MK 100B or MK 101B
for t e outcomming INTERBUS, terminals 62, 63, 64,
65, 66 and RB.
EMC precautions
T e following EMC precautions are recommended to
obtain interference free operation of t e INTERBUS
network. Additional information on EMC can be found
in t e VLT 5000 Series design guide (MG.50.CX.YY).
Please also consult t e manual of t e INTERBUS
master for furt er installation guidelines.
Relevant national and local regulations, for
example regarding protective eart connection,
must be observed.
- Cable routing
T e INTERBUS communication cable must be
kept away from motor and brake resistor
cables to avoid coupling of ig frequency
noise from one cable to t e ot er. Normally a
distance of 200 mm is sufficient, but it is generally
