VLT® 5000 INTERBUS
Tec nical overview.
Interbus intro uction
T e INTERBUS system is divided into two different
system: remote and local. T e remote system
enables t e user to connect up to 256 stations on a
single system wi t a maximum of 400m Cable
between eac station.
T e locale bus system enables t e user to establis
communication to Input/output devices t rou gt a
single twisted pair of Cables. T is type of
comunication is typical used t e simple devices E.g.
Digital I/O devices.
For Communication on t e remote bus t e
INTERBUS system provides two different types of
communication Process Data and PCP (Perip erals
Communication Protocol). T e Process Data is
cyclic communication to devices wit ig priority.
T is type of communication typically takes between
few milliseconds and up to 100 milliseconds,
depending on t e size of t e system. Example of
t is type of communication is digital & analogue I/O
or control word & reference to frequency
converters.
PCP communication are used for communications
needs t at does not require ig speed and and
typically only are activated on request from t e user
writen program. Typical time to read/write a single
value is 100 to 200 millisecond. Example of t is type
of communication is configurating Data, read of
service parameter suc as running ours, number
power up and KW .

Cable routing an connectors
recommended to keep t e greatest possible
distance between t e cables,or use fiber optic
Cables, especially w ere cables are running in
parallel over long distances.
If t e INTERBUS cable as to cross a motor or
brake resistor cable t ey must cross eac ot er
at an angle of 90° to ensure t e minimum of
interfrence.
- Connection of t e cable screen
T e screen of t e INTERBUS cable must
always be connected to ground at bot ends,
t at means t e screen must be connected to
ground in all stations connected to t e
INTERBUS network. It is of ig importance
to ave a low impedance ground connection
of t e screen, also at ig frequencies.T is
can be obtained by connecting t e surface of
t e screen to ground, for example by means
of a cable clamp or a conductive cable gland.
T e INTERBUS Option Card is connected to t e

■Process Data.
T e VLT®5000 INTERBUS option, offers a flexible
way for t e user to customize t e number of
Process Data. T e process Data of t e VLT®5000
is split in two main parts: T e first two words t at is
reserved for t e Drive profile and t e user
definable Process data (PCD1 to PCD7).
Process Data
T e first two words are fixed on t e VLT®5000
option, w ereas t e input and output PCD1 to
PCD7 can be selected by t e user. T e number of
PCDs active in a system is user selectable from 0
(zero) up to 7 words. T e number of PCDs is
always selected in pairs (input and output).
For t e first 2 fixed words of Data, in t e PQ and PI
Data, t e Danfoss VLT®5000 offers two different
types of profiles: Drivecom and Danfoss. T e
Drivecom profile fullfills t e requirement of Drivecom
21, speed setting 1. T e Drivecom and Danfoss
profiles will be explained in detail in c apter 7 & 8.
PCD1 to PCD7 can be used in a flexible way to read
and write t e VLT®5000 parameters, or ig speed
transfer of data to t e Syncronizing and positioning
Card (Sync/Pos Card).
C anging t e number of PCDs can be done by
accesing t e VLT®5000s Parameter 807. T e
Parameter can be c anged at any time, but t e
c anges wil first take place at t e next powerup, or if
t e Master sends out a Bus reset command.
Please note t at c anging t e number of
PCDs also may c ange t e mapping of t e
Masters I/O Area (PC/PLC).
T e VLT®5000 INTERBUS option features t e
disabling of PQ Data. PQ can be made inactive,
t is means t at t e VLT®5000 ingnores t e content
of all PQ Data, but t e VLT®5000 continues to
update t e PI Data. T is feature is used during
reconfiguration of a running VLT®5000 system and
ensures t at no parameter is c anged by mistake.
T e drawing below s ows t e default setting of a
system wit no PCD words. T e system only
consist of control word and main reference for t e
PQ Data, and status word and main actual value
for t e PI Data. In t is system t e Control word is
mapped into t e PLCs output memory QW000
and t e reference is mapped to t e output memory
QW002. T e status word of t e VLT®5000 is
mapped into t e input word IW000 of t e PLC and
t e feedback (main actual value) is mapped to
IW002.

■Process Data, PCD.
To enable t e use of PCD data, of t e VLT®5000
INTERBUS option, t e amount of PCD Datawords
as to be configured in Parameter 807, w ere as t e
contents of eac single PCD word as to be
configured in Parameter 915 and 916. T is can be
done in two different ways: setting parameter 915
and 916, or by using t e t e INTERBUS object
6000H and 6001H.
After setting parameter 807 to matc t e desired
amount of PCD Data, t e VLT®5000 needs to be
configured, for assigning Parameters to eac single
PCD words. T e VLT®5000 stores t is information
in Parameter 915 and 916. T e INTERBUS objects
6000H and 6001H are images of t e two Parameters.
C anging Parameter 915/916 as immidiatly effect
on t e PCD data.
T e drawing below s ows t e relation between t e
INTERBUS object 6000H/6001H and VLT®5000
Parameter 915/916.
T e INTERBUS Object 6000H and 6001H is an Array of
words t at as following structure:
T e sub Index number 1 contains t e number of
process data bytes. For eac byte of process data
2 sub indexes are used. Sub index 2 contains t e
Object number, sub index 3 is t e index of t e object,
if t e object is of type array. T e next two indexes are
for t e next byte of process data. If a Object is of type
Word it uses 4 Sub indexes, w eras t e t ree last Sub
indexes are not used, and must be set to zero.
T e 6000H 6001H Objects can ave from 9 up to 37
Sub indexes depending on ow many PCD words
t ere as been assigned. T e drawing below s ows a
configuration wit 2 PCD words assign for reading
parameter 520 (Current) and parameter 528 (digital
input). For writing parameter 204 (minimum reference)
and parameter 221 (Torque limit) is used.
T e output data to t e VLT®5000 can be disabled by
Interbus Object 6002H. By setting t e Interbus object
6002H to 00H all imcomming process data wil not be
transimitted to t e VLT5000. Setting Interbus object
6002H to FFH reactivates t e updating of output data.
After a power up t e option always sets objects 6002H
to FFH .
Writing to Interbus Object 6001H
automaticly sets object 6002H to 00H an
t ereby disables t e inputs. T e user as
to write 0FFH to Object 6002H manually.
