GUIDE TO INSTALLATION
The following can be used as a checklist to verify all the necessary steps for
complete installation of the LS2200 scanner.
1. Read all information in the section "Safety Precautions” at the beginning
of this manual.
2. Correctly position and mount the scanner for barcode reading according
to the information in par. 2.2, 2.4 and 3.5.
3. Connect the scanner cable to the decoder. See par. 2.3.
The installation is now complete.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
LASER SAFETY
The following information is provided to comply with the rules imposed by
international authorities and refers to the correct use of the LS2200 barcode
reader.
Standard Regulations
This barcode reader utilizes a low-power laser diode. Although staring
directly at the laser beam momentarily causes no known biological damage,
avoid staring at the beam as one would with any very strong light source,
such as the sun. Avoid that the laser beam hits the eye of an observer, even
through reflective surfaces such as mirrors, etc.
This product conforms to the applicable requirements of both IEC 825-1 and
CDRH 21 CFR 1040 at the date of manufacture. The scanner is classified as
a Class 2 laser product according to IEC 825-1 regulations and as a Class II
laser product according to CDRH regulations.
There is a safety device which allows the laser to be switched on only if the
motor is rotating above the threshold for its correct scanning speed.
WARNING
Use of controls or adjustments or performance of
procedures other than those specified herein may result
in exposure to hazardous visible laser light.
Any decoder used with this scanner series must include a visible indication
whenever it is on (i.e. LED power indicator) and must include easy access to
the ON/OFF switch.
The laser light is visible to the human eye and is emitted from the window on
the side of the scanner (Figure A, 2).

Warning labels indicating exposure to laser light and the device classification
are applied onto the body of the reader (Figure A, 7).
Warning and device class labels
Turn the power off when opening the reader to avoid exposure to hazardous
visible laser light.
The laser diode used in this device is classified as a class 3B laser product
according to IEC 825-1 regulations and as a Class IIIb laser product
according to CDRH regulations. As it is not possible to apply a classification
label on the laser diode used in this device, the following labels are
reproduced here:

1 GENERAL FEATURES
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The LS2200 is the fastest ultra-compact laser scanner which combines cost
effectiveness and high reading performance. It can be connected to all
Datalogic Industrial Decoders.



1.2 DESCRIPTION
Some of the main features of LS2200 are listed below:
•ultra compact dimensions
•light weight
•linear and raster versions
•supply voltage: 10 to 30 Vdc
•low power consumption
•IP65 protection class of the enclosure; the reader is therefore suitable for
industrial environments where high protection against harsh external
conditions is required.
•very high scanning speed (up to 2000 scans/sec. available on request)
•very high density code reading (up to 0.076 mm, 3 mils)

The laser beam output window is on the side of the scanner (Figure A, 2).
A security system allows the laser to activate only once the motor has
reached the correct rotational speed; consequently, the laser beam is
generated after a slight delay from the power on of the scanner.
1.2.1 Indicators
The four LEDs on the scanner indicate the following:
POWER ON (red). Indicates the reader is connected to the power supply.
(Figure A, 3).
GOOD READ (red). Is used to si

nal the possibility of a successful
barcode reading. (Figure A, 4).
LASER ON (green). Indicates laser ON state. (Figure A, 5).

The screw holes on the body of the reader are for mechanical fixture (Figure
A, 8).

4- General Features
1.4 TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
The LS2200 was specifically designed for use in OEM industrial applications.
Typical applications are reading codes for: document handling machines,
chemical and blood analyzers, pharmaceutical code verifiers, printing
machines, etc.
The LS2200 can be mounted horizontally or vertically to read labels in the
two standard (step ladder and picket fence) positions (see par. 3.2 and 3.3).
In each application, the length of the scan line, the scan speed, the bar
height and speed of the moving code with respect to the scanner should
allow the reader to scan the code about five times to assure a good read.
The LS2200 can be connected to all Datalogic Industrial Decoders.

2 INSTALLATION
2.1 PACKAGE CONTENTS
Verify that the LS2200 reader and all the parts supplied with the equipment
are present and intact when opening the packaging; the list of parts includes:

2.2 MECHANICAL INSTALLATION
The LS2200 can be installed to operate in any position.
There are three screw holes (M2.5 x 5) on the body of the reader for
mounting. The diagram below gives all the information required for
installation; refer to par. 2.4 for correct positioning of the scanner with
respect to the code passage zone.

2.3 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
The LS2200 is supplied with a 15-pin D-sub connector, through which
connection between scanner and decoder takes place and the operating
voltage is supplied.

2.3.1 Power Supply
The maximum D.C. voltage applicable between the VDC pin and GND is
30 V: higher values can damage the reader.
The minimum D.C. operating voltage is 10 V; lower values do not allow the
scanner to switch on.
The current consumption decreases as the power supply voltage increases.

2.4 POSITIONING
The LS2200 scanner is able to decode moving barcode labels at a variety of
angles, however significant angular distortion may degrade reading
performance.
When mounting the LS2200 take into consideration these three ideal label
position angles: Pitch 0°, Skew 15° to 30° and Tilt 0°.
Follow the suggestions for the best orientation:

10 - Reading Features
3 READING FEATURES
3.1 PERFORMANCE CONTROLS
LS2200 is fully controlled by its decoder, which is completely configurable
from a host computer through the WINHOST™ utility program provided on
diskette with the device, or through ESC sequences via the serial interface.
The decoder controls barcode reading, serial port interfacing, data formatting
and many other operating and control parameters related to the scanner
connected such as:
SCANNER POWER (*)
This command shuts down power to the LS2200 circuitry in order to reduce
overall system power consumption. The possible values are ON and OFF.
The maximum delay between "power off" and the ready state of the scanner
(power on), depends on the selected scanning speed:
•for 500 scans/sec the delay is 1 second
•for 1000 scans/sec the delay is 2 seconds
BEAM SHUTTER
This command turns the LS2200 laser off and can be used:
•to increase the overall laser diode life when used in high ambient
temperature applications (over 35° C).
•to reduce power consumption
•to turn off the laser for safety purposes

CODE RESOLUTION
This command optimizes the LS2200 performance according to the specific
barcode density.
The possible values are:
•Standard Optimized reading of low/medium density barcodes
•High Optimized reading of high density barcodes
SCANNING SPEED (*)
This command allows to select the scanner's scan speed:
•Half Speed (500 scans/sec): increased reading capability for high
resolution barcodes and long distance reading
•Full Speed (1000 scans/sec): increased reading capability for low
resolution barcodes and short distance reading

GOOD READ LED
This LED shows a successful acquisition of the code (Good Read) and is
controlled by the decoder.
