About this guide
This document describes the VxRail D Series appliance hardware, lists technical specifications, and describes high-level
operations.
The target audience for this document includes customers, field personnel, and partners who want to operate and maintain a
VxRail D560 or D560F. This document is designed for people familiar with:
●Dell EMC systems and software
●VMware virtualization products
●Data center appliances and infrastructure

Create an Online Support account to get access to support and product resources for your VxRail Appliance.
If you already have an account, register your VxRail Appliance to access the available resources.
For convenience, you can link your Online Support account with VxRail Manager and access support resources without having to
log in separately.
NOTE: If you plan to set up Secure Remote Services, your Online Support account must be linked to VxRail Manager under
the same party ID or the deployment will fail. Your appliance must also be in an installed state in the Install Base.

Create an Online Support account to access support resources.

Steps
1. Point your Web browser to www.emc.com/vxrailsupport (or http://www.dell.com/support).
2. Fill in your first name, last name, email, and preferred password.
3. Select whether you would like to subscribe to email updates.
4. Click Create an Account.
Support will send you a confirmation email, typically within 48 hours.
Where to go for support resources
Access support resources for your VxRail Appliance by doing any of the following:
●In the vSphere Client, select VxRail from the menu and use the Support functions on the VxRail Dashboard.
●Point your Web browser to www.emc.com/vxrailsupport (or https://www.dell.com/support).
Using SolVe Online for VxRail Series procedures
Instructions for procedures such as replacing hardware or performing system administrative tasks are available through SolVe
Online and the SolVe Desktop application.
CAUTION: To avoid potential data loss, refer to the VxRail Series procedures in SolVe Online or the SolVe
Desktop application before performing any hardware replacement or upgrade activity.
Access SolVe Online for VxRail through your Web browser.
For more information about SolVe for VxRail, refer to KB 525271.
You must have an online support account to use SolVe Online.
Locating your appliance serial number
To get support for your appliance, use the VxRail Appliance serial number, also called the Product Serial Number Tag (PSNT).
The PSNT is a 14-digit number used to identify individual appliances to Dell EMC support.
NOTE: Only use the VxRail Appliance serial number to contact Customer Support. Sometimes, you may need to supply the
7-digit service tag number.
There are two identification tags on your appliance:
●The VxRail appliance serial number tag — You can find the serial number (PSNT) printed on the information tag on your
physical appliance, or you can locate the PSNT using VxRail Manager.
●The service tag — You can find the service tag printed on the physical appliance.
Looking up your VxRail appliance serial number in VxRail Manager
Follow these steps to look up your VxRail appliance serial number in VxRail Manager.
Steps
1. On the main page of the vSphere Client click Hosts and Clusters in the left navigation bar.
2. Select your VxRail cluster.
3. Select the Monitor tab.

4. Select VxRail > Physical View from the inner left navigation bar.
5. Observe the VxRail appliance serial number, listed under each appliance ID.
The serial number is also called the "PSNT".

Locating the serial number and service tag number on your
appliance
You can identify your VxRail appliance using the unique serial number, service tag number, or express service code located on
the information tag of your appliance. The information tag is located at the front of your appliance. See the System Overview
for the location.
The information tag contains the following:
●Product serial number tag (PSNT), which provides the 14-digit VxRail serial number
●Service tag
To view the PSNT and other labels, pull out the information tag in the front of the appliance. Alternatively, information may be
on a sticker on the chassis of the appliance.
The mini Enterprise Service Tag (EST) is found on the back of the appliance. This information is used by Dell to route support
calls to the appropriate personnel.

Drive indicator codes
The LEDs on the drive carrier indicate the state of each drive. Each drive carrier in your system has two LEDs: an activity LED
(green) and a status LED (bicolor, green/amber). The activity LED flashes whenever the drive is accessed.

NOTE: If the drive is in the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) mode, the status LED indicator does not turn on.

Blinks green twice per second Indicates that the drive is being identified or preparing for removal.
Off Indicates that the drive ready for removal.
NOTE: The drive status indicator remains off until all drives
are initialized after the appliance is turned on. Drives are not
ready for removal during this time.
Blinks green, amber, and then turns off Indicates that there is an expected drive failure.
Blinks amber four times per second Indicates that the drive failed.
Blinks green slowly Indicates that the drive is rebuilding.
Solid green Indicates that the drive is online.
Blinks green for three seconds, amber for three seconds,
and then powers off after six seconds
Indicates that the drive rebuilt has stopped.

N/A Use the card slot to connect a half-height PCIe expansion
card on low profile riser.
NOTE: The low profile riser in slot 3 is supported on the 2

system status when the CMA is installed.
12 System identification button Press the system ID button:
●To locate a particular system within a rack.
●To turn the system ID on or off.
To reset iDRAC, press and hold the button for more than 15
seconds.
NOTE:
●To reset iDRAC using system ID, ensure that the
system ID button is enabled in the iDRAC setup.
●If the system stops responding during POST, press and
hold the system ID button (for more than five seconds)
to enter the BIOS progress mode.
13 Full height riser right slot (Riser 1,
PCIe, slot 2)
N/A Use the card slot to connect full-height PCIe expansion cards
on the full height riser.
NOTE: The full height riser is supported on the 1 CPU
configuration only. For 2 CPU configurations, see the half
height right and left risers (Riser 1 and 2, PCIe slot 2 and
3).
NIC indicator codes
Each NIC on the back of the system has indicators that provide information about the activity and link status. The activity LED
indicator indicates if data is flowing through the NIC, and the link LED indicator indicates the speed of the connected network.

green.
The NIC is connected to a valid network at its maximum port speed,
and data is being sent or received.

Power supply unit indicator codes
AC power supply units (PSUs) have an illuminated translucent handle that serves as an indicator.
The indicator shows whether power is present or if a power fault has occurred.

Power indicator codes Condition
Green A valid power source is connected to the PSU, and the PSU is operational.
Blinking amber Indicates a problem with the PSU.
Not illuminated Power is not connected to the PSU.
Blinking green When the firmware of the PSU is being updated, the PSU handle blinks green.
CAUTION: Do not disconnect the power cable, or unplug the PSU when updating
firmware. If firmware update is interrupted, the PSUs do not function.
Blinking green and turns off When hot-plugging a PSU, the PSU handle blinks green five times at a rate of 4 Hz and
turns off. This indicates a PSU mismatch concerning efficiency, feature set, health status, or
supported voltage.
CAUTION: If two PSUs are installed, both the PSUs must have the same type of
label; for example, Extended Power Performance (EPP) label. Mixing PSUs from
previous generations of PowerEdge servers is not supported, even if the PSUs
have the same power rating. This results in a PSU mismatch condition, or failure
to turn on the system.
CAUTION: When correcting a PSU mismatch, replace only the PSU with the
blinking indicator. Swapping the PSU to make a matched pair can result in an
error condition and unexpected system shutdown. To change from a high output
configuration to a low output configuration or conversely, you must turn off the
system.
CAUTION: AC PSUs support both 240 V and 120 V input voltages except for
Titanium PSUs, which support only 240 V. When two identical PSUs receive

Expansion bus specifications
The VxRail D Series system supports PCI express (PCIe) generation three expansion cards, which must be installed on the
system board using expansion card risers. The D Series system supports four types of expansion card risers.
