This document provides installation instructions for the expansion-card cooling fan
assembly. The cooling fans provide airflow to expansion cards installed in the periph-
eral component interconnect (PCI) expansion slots. Power for the fans is supplied by
the peripheral DC power harness.



NOTE: To install the expansion-card cooling fan assembly, you must remove and
replace the system cover according to the instructions in “Removing and Replacing
the Computer Cover” in your system’s Installation and Troubleshooting Guide.
To install the expansion-card cooling fan assembly, perform the following steps:
1. B a ck u p a l l d a t a .
2. Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the sys-
tem from the electrical outlet.
3. Remove the system cover.


4. Press the system-board tray latch at the lower-back corner of the tray (see
Figure 1-1).

5. Pull the tray open to the first slide position.
6. If any interface cables are connected between expansion card(s) and the small
computer system interface (SCSI) backplane board, disconnect the interface
cables from the SCSI backplane board.
7. Install the expansion-card cooling fan assembly (see Figure 1-2):
a. Insert the tabs at the bottom of the fan assembly into expansion-card bracket
at slots PCI2 and PCI6.
To identify slots PCI2 and PCI6, see “Expansion Cards” in your system’s
Installation and Troubleshooting Guide.
b. Press the top of the fan assembly and slide it under the top of the expansion-
card bracket.
c. Secure the fan assembly bracket to the expansion-card bracket, and tighten
the fan assembly bracket thumbscrew.
NOTE: If you cannot install the fan assembly on the expansion-card bracket, replace
the expansion-card guides with those included in the fan assembly upgrade kit.
8. Locate an available connector on the DC power harness, and connect it to one of
the two fan assembly DC power connectors.

NOTE: If you cannot locate an unused connector on the DC power harness, discon-
nect the power cable from a peripheral device close to the fan assembly. Next,
connect the power cable to the fan assembly, and connect the remaining fan assem-
bly power connector to the peripheral device.
 
9. If you disconnected any interface cables between expansion card(s) and the SCSI
backplane board, connect the interface cables to the SCSI backplane board.
NOTE: Route interface cables from the expansion card(s) to the side of the
expansion-card cooling fan assembly (see Figure 1-2).
10. Examine all cable connections, especially those that might have come loose dur-
ing your work. Fold cables out of the way so that they do not catch on the system
cover.
11. Replace the system cover.
12. Reconnect the system and devices to their electrical outlets, and turn them on.

Ce document explique comment installer le module de ventilation des cartes d’exten-
sion. Les ventilateurs permettent de refroidir les cartes des emplacements
d’extension PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect). Les ventilateurs sont alimentés
par l’alimentation électrique CC des périphériques.



REMARQUE : Pour installer le module de ventilation des cartes d’extension, vous
devez retirer le capot de l’ordinateur" et le réinstaller conformément aux instructions
de la section “Retrait et réinstallation du capot de l’ordinateur du Guide d’installation
et de dépannage du système.
Pour installer le module de ventilation, procédez comme suit :
1. Sauvegardez toutes vos données.
2. Mettez le système hors tension, y compris les périphériques qui lui sont con-
nectés, puis débranchez-le du secteur.

3. Retirez le capot du système.
4. Appuyez sur le levier de la carte système situédans l’angle inférieur àl’arrière du
plateau (voir la Figure 2-1).

5. Tirez le plateau pour l’amener sur la première position.
6. Si des câbles sont connectés entre les cartes d’extension et le fond de panier
SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) déconnectez les câbles d’interface SCSI
du fond de panier.
7. Installez le module de ventilation des cartes d’extension (voir la Figure 2-2) :
a. Insérez les pattes du module de ventilation dans le support des cartes
situées dans les emplacements d’extension PCI2 et PCI6.
Pour identifier les emplacements d’extension PCI2 et PCI6, reportez-vous à
la section ”Carte d’extension“du Guide d’installation et de dépannage du
système.
b. Appuyez sur la face supérieure du module de ventilation et glissez-le sous la
partie supérieure du support de cartes d’extension.
c. Fixez le module de ventilation au support de cartes d’extension àl’aide de la
vis àmolette du support du module de ventilation.
REMARQUE : Si vous ne pouvez pas installer le module de ventilation sur le support
de cartes d’extension, remplacez les guides de carte d’extension par ceux fournis
avec le kit de mise àniveau du module de ventilation.

8. Recherchez un connecteur libre sur l’alimentation électrique CC, puis connectez-
le àl'un des deux connecteurs d'alimentation CC du module de ventilation.
REMARQUE : S'il ne reste aucun connecteur inutilisésur l’alimentation électrique CC,
débranchez le câble d'alimentation d'un périphérique proche du module de ventilation.
Branchez ensuite ce câble d'alimentation sur le module de ventilation, puis branchez
le connecteur du module de ventilation sur le périphérique.


9. Si vous avez déconnectéles câbles d’interface entre les cartes d’extension et le
fond de panier SCSI, connectez les câbles d’interface au fond de panier SCSI.
REMARQUE : Amenez les câbles d’interface des cartes d’extension vers le côté
du module de ventilation des cartes d’extension (voir la Figure 2-2).
10. Examinez toutes les connexions des câbles, en particulier celles qui auraient pu
se desserrer pendant que vous travailliez. Repliez les câbles et dégagez-les afin
qu'ils ne se coincent pas sur le capot de l'ordinateur.
11. R éinstallez le capot du système.
12. Rebranchez le système et les périphériques au secteur, puis remettez-les sous
tension.

Dieses Dokument enthält eine Anleitung zur Installation der Erweiterungskarten-
Lüfterbaugruppe. Die Lüfter sorgen für einen kühlenden Luftstrom für die in den PCI-
Erweiterungssteckplätzen eingebauten Erweiterungskarten. Die Lüfter werden von
der peripheren Gleichstromquelle betrieben.



HINWEIS: Zur Installation der Erweiterungskarten-Lüfterbaugruppe müssen Sie die
Abdeckung des Systems entsprechend den Anweisungen in „Entfernen und Ersetzen
der Computerabdeckung“ in der Anleitung zur Installation und Fehlersuche in Ihrem
System entfernen und wieder einsetzen.
Zur Installation der Erweiterungskarten-Lüfterbaugruppe führen Sie folgende Schritte aus:
1. Legen Sie von sämtlichen Daten Sicherungskopien an.
2. Schalten Sie das System sowie sämtliche angeschlossenen Peripheriegeräte aus
und unterbrechen Sie die Stromzufuhr.
3. Nehmen Sie die Abdeckung des Systems ab.

4. Drücken Sie die Einschubverriegelung der Systemplatine an der hinteren unteren
Ecke des Einschubs nach unten (siehe Abbildung 3-1).

5. Ziehen Sie den Einschub bis zur ersten Position heraus.
6. Falls zwischen der (den) Erweiterungskarte(n) und der SCSI-Rückwandplatine
irgendwelche Schnittstellenkabel angeschlossen sind, lösen Sie die Kabel von der
Platine.
7. Bauen Sie die Erweiterungskarten-Lüfterbaugruppe ein (siehe Abbildung 3-2).
a. Setzen Sie die Zungen auf der Unterseite der Lüfterbaugruppe in die Halter-
ung der Erweiterungskarte an den Steckplätzen PCI2 und PCI6 ein.
Zur Position der Steckplätze PCI2 und PCI6 siehe „Erweiterungskarten“in
der Anleitung zur Installation und Fehlersuche Ihres Systems.
b. Drücken Sie von oben auf die Lüfterbaugruppe und schieben Sie sie unter die
Halterung der Erweiterungskarte.
c. Befestigen Sie die Halterung der Lüfterbaugruppe in der Halterung der Erweit-
erungskarte und ziehen Sie die Flügelschraube der Lüfterhalterung fest.
HINWEIS: Wenn Sie die Lüfterbaugruppe nicht an der Halterung der Erweiterung-
skarte befestigen können, ersetzen Sie die Erweiterungskarten-Führungsschienen
durch die dem Lüfterbaugruppe-Upgrade-Kit beiliegenden Schienen.
8. Verbinden Sie einen verfügbaren Anschluss auf der Gleichstromquelle mit einem
der beiden Lüfterbaugruppen-Gleichstromstecker.

HINWEIS: Wenn Sie auf der Gleichstromquelle keinen freien Anschluss finden kön-
nen, ziehen Sie von einem peripheren Gerät in der Nähe der Lüfterbaugruppe das
Stromkabel ab. Verbinden Sie dann das Stromkabel mit der Lüfterbaugruppe und den
verbleibenden Lüfterbaugruppen-Stecker mit dem peripheren Gerät.

9. Falls Sie Schnittstellenkabel zwischen der (den) Erweiterungskarte(n) und der
SCSI-Rückwandplatine entfernt haben, schließen Sie diese Kabel wieder an die
Platine an.
HINWEIS: Führen Sie die Schnittstellenkabel von der (den) Erweiterungskarte(n)
an den Seiten der Erweiterungskarten-Lüfterbaugruppe vorbei (siehe Abbildung
3-2).
10. Überprüfen Sie alle Kabelverbindungen und achten Sie besonders auf die Verbind-
ungen, die sich während Ihrer Arbeit gelockert haben könnten. Sorgen Sie dafür,
dass die Kabel nicht in der Systemabdeckung eingeklemmt werden.
11. Bringen Sie die Systemabdeckung wieder an.
12. Verbinden Sie das System und die Geräte wieder mit der Stromversorgung und
schalten sie ein.
