2.3 Light and sound indicators
This emits light and audio signals depending on the VCI status as described below :
Steady white : VCI supply on waiting for user input.
Steady blue : VCI - Computer connection active.
Steady green or alternating Green/Blue : Communication with vehicle ongoing.
Alternating Green/Blue and sound warning : computer connection lost while communicating
with the vehicle

Steady yellow : Flight recorder ready to record.
Flashing yellow : Recording running.
Slow flashing red and sound warning : Battery voltage warning.
Rapid flashing red : Firmware update running.
Steady red : Firmware absent or corrupted.
2.4 Security dongle
The BlueTech VCI is supplied with a
USB security dongle This is paired
with the VCI it is supplied with and
contains the VCI license data The
security dongle must be connected
to the computer to start and run the
DS applications.
Note:
Any security dongle containing the appropriate licenses can be used to start the DS applications.
However it is only possible to communicate with a vehicle using the VCI if the dongle associated with
the VCI is connected to the computer.

2.5 Equipment identification
Serial number
The serial number is found on the
back of the VCI as shown opposite.
Dongle number
The dongle associated with the VCI
has its own identification number.
This is engraved on the dongle as
shown opposite.
It is also possible to obtain the
dongle number and the associated
serial number by connecting the
dongle to a computer and starting
the LAT application.
3. SET UP
The drivers required for the VCI are installed on the computer during the installation of any of
the DS programs (DS-Cars, DS-Heavy Duty or DS-nano™). The Bluetech VCI set up is done using
the DS applications. This section describes the installation of the DS applications and the
BlueTech VCI configuration.
Note:
Do not connect the VCI to the computer via the USB before installing the DS application.

3.1 Download the DS application.
Go to the dso.my-delphi.com site and
then to the “Download” tab.
Click on the "DS-nano / DS-CARS / DS-
HEAVY DUTY Software” download
button.
Enter the VCI number and the dongle
number (see the Identification
section) to validate and start the
download.
Note:
The number of downloads authorized per unit is limited to 3. Keep a safe copy of the installation
program. If it proves necessary to exceed the download quota, contact Technical Assistance to
obtain a new copy.
3.2 DS application and driver installation
Connect the security dongle to the
computer or tablet.

Start the installation program and
wait for the end of the auto-
extraction and loading process.
Select the language to be used
during the installation (this does not
select the program language which
can be re-configured at any time).
Follow the on-screen instructions to
install the CodeMeter program.
Follow the on-screen instructions to
install the LAT program.

The LAT (License Activation Tool) will
then start, click on start to activate
the license.
An Internet connection is required
for the activation process.
Check that the serial number
displayed corresponds to the number
on the back of the VCI.
Wait for the VCI license(s) activation
process to finish. When this has
finished, quit the LAT program.
The installation program will start
automatically.

Select the product to be installed ”DS
BlueTech VCI Car“ or “DS BlueTech
VCI Heavy-Duty“. If both are
required, run the installation
program twice (once for each DS).
Check that the computer satisfies the
system requirements and click on the
“View” button.
Click on the check box then on “Next”.
Select the installation folder then
click on “Install” and wait for the
installation to finish.
You are advised not to change the
installation directory.
A new icon will appear on the
computer desktop. Double click on
the icon to start the diagnostic
application.

The DS application will configure the
environment during the first start
and the home page will be displayed.
3.3 Bluetooth connection
3.3.1 First connection
Bluetooth is the default
connection. The BlueTech VCI is
equipped with technology that
allows the VCI to connect to the
computer using Bluetooth
without the need for user setup.
If the Bluetooth connection is
operational, a green “Bluetooth”
symbol is displayed in the upper
right hand corner of the screen.
It is sometimes necessary to
authorize the VCI connection in
Windows. If this is required, the
“Bluetooth” symbol is gray and a
Windows” Add a device” dialog
box will appear. Click on the
warning to authorize the
connection.
The Windows “Pair Devices”
window will display and a dialog
box requesting the authorization
to connect new hardware. Click
on “Authorize”.

3.3.2 Wifi connection
If the connection has been
configured under Wifi, it is
possible to go back to Bluetooth
connection using the “Hardware
setup” dialog box.
Click on the “Bluetooth” option
and close the window.
3.4 Wifi connection
If Bluetooth is not possible or not appropriate for the operations envisaged, it is possible to
establish a wireless connection with the VCI by using a Wifi network available in the workshop.
Note:
It is vital to connect the VCI to the same Wifi network as the one used by the computer running the
VCI.
Note:
In order to configure the Wifi connection in the VCI, it is necessary to connect the VCI to a computer
via Bluetooth or by USB.

Open the “Hardware setup” dialog
box.
In the “Hardware setup” dialog box,
click on “Wifi Settings”.
Note:
The BlueTech VCI will only accept static IP addresses. Refer to your router or Wifi access point
document for the Static IP address mode management.
The VCI MAC Address is displayed on the configuration page shown below in order to configure your
router. If the MAC Address is not displayed, check the availability of a software update.
Enter the Wifi network name (SSID),
the password and the IP address
allocated to the VCI and click on
“Next”.

Wait for the connection parameters
to be transmitted to the VCI and for
it to connect to the Wifi network. The
operation may take a few minutes.
If the VCI has connected to the Wifi
network, the configuration process
has finished.
If the Wifi connection is operational,
a green “Wifi” symbol is displayed in
the upper right hand corner of the
screen.
3.5 USB connection
There is no special configuration
required to use a USB connection to
communicate with the VCI as this is
automatically selected by default if a
VCI is detected on one of the
computer USB ports. If the USB
connection is operational, a green
“USB” symbol is displayed in the
upper right hand corner of the screen.

3.6 Using "PassThru" feature
The BlueTech VCI support J2534 "PassThru" standard allowing its use together with OE software
compatible with this standard. In order to use this feature, it is necessary to proceed as follow :
• Install DS-CARS ou DS-HEAVYDUTY version 2021.10 or newer on the computer with which
the PassThru feature will be used.
WARNING
It is required to use the BlueTech VCI dongle during the installation. If another type of dongle is
used, PassThru drivers won't be installed.
Note:
It is possible to install 2021.10 software by automatic update from 2021.00 or by complete
installation. In both cases, the use of a BlueTech dongle is mandatory during the installation of
the complete software or of the update, for the reason described above.
• The BlueTech VCI must be connected to the computer with a USB cable when using PassThru
feature.
• The dongle of the BlueTech VCI must be connected to the computer all along the use of the
PassThru feature.
• DS-CARS et DS-HEAVYDUTY must not be running during the use of PassThru mode and must
be shut down prior to using it.
• Refer to OE Software technical document for more details on the selection and the use of the
BlueTech VCI in PassThru mode.
Manual installation of "PassThru" drivers
If 2021.10 software has been installed with another dongle but a BlueTech one and the drivers
are not installed, it is possible to install the drivers either by re-installing DS-CARS or DS-
HEAVYDUTY software with BlueTech dongle connected (recommended solution) or by forcing
drivers installation as follow :
• Connect BlueTech VCI dongle to the computer.
• In DS-CARS or DS-HEAVYDUTY installation folder in"C:\Program Files (x86)\Delphi
Diagnostic", search the file J2534Installer.exe. Then click right on it and select "Run as
administrator...".
If the installation suceeded, a "J2534" folder has been created "C:\Program Files (x86)\Delphi
Diagnostic" and the "BlueTech - Delphi Technologies" VCI will be shown in the list of available
PassThru devices.

4. NOTE REGARDING VEHICLE BATTERY VOLTAGE
In order to ensure correct stability of
the battery voltage and prevent its
untimely discharge, it is
recommended to use a Battery
Support Unit during every diagnostic
operations. Delphi Technologies
particularly recommends the use of
BSU SV60011.
In absence of BSU during diagnostic operation, the following phenomena may occur :
• Loss of communication with ECU(s) and/or the VCI during cranking phase, which may lead to
unexpected behaviors, loss of functionalities or error messages,
• Some ECUs entering sleep mode, reducing access to diagnostic functions,
• Battery discharge preventing engine cranking.
In order to avoid these issues, the
BlueTech VCI is equipped with a
battery voltage monitoring system,
allowing the software to display the
voltage read on the diagnostic plug
as well as an associated warning
pictogram with following possible
states :
Symbol Meaning
Correct battery voltage : a short operation (DTC Reading, Service Light Reset,...) without BSU is possible
but its use is recommended though.
Medium battery voltage : some unwanted effects may occur during diagnostic but this does not
necessarily means a faulty battery or problem to start. Plug in a BSU as soon as possible while conforming
to safety recommendations provided with the BSU.

Symbol Meaning
Weak battery voltage : a sound and visual alert will also be played by the VCI, the behaviors of the vehicle
and the VCI may become unstable. Immediately stop the diagnostic and plug in a BSU while conforming to
safety recommendations provided with the BSU and after having verified the good condition of the
battery with a battery tester.
Note:
The value of the voltage and the state of the battery displayed in the software are provided for
indication only in order to warn the user on the risk of battery discharge and the unexpected
behaviors described above. In no way they can be used to diagnose the battery or charging system
of the vehicle.
DANGER
A battery recharge is an operation requiring precaution, that must be performed by qualified
personel and after having taken knowledge of precaution of use of the battery charger or BSU.
5. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
General precautions
Keep the unit away from damp or dusty conditions and under normal operating temperatures.
Do not expose the unit to extremes of temperature, do not leave the vehicle parked in full
sunlight, do not place the unit on hot surfaces or where the surface may become hot under
operating conditions.
Regularly clean the unit following the maintenance recommendations.
Do not drop the unit or subject it to impact damage.
Do not connect it to a vehicle, other equipment or an electrical supply using a cable, an adapter
or any other piece of equipment not approved by Delphi Technologies.
Make sure that the voltage and polarities are correct.
Do not connect it to a vehicle, other equipment or an electrical supply using a cable, an adapter
or any other piece of equipment if the cable or connectors are damaged.
Do not use the unit with an accessory, cable or adapter that are damaged.
Do not try to open or repair the unit other than as described in the section Care and Maintenance.
Only use genuine Delphi Technologies replacement parts.
Operator safety
The unit must only be operated by qualified personnel.
Do not place the unit in airbag expansion zones.

During dynamic tests (on the highway or on a test track), do not manipulate the unit, the
associated application or any other equipment used in the diagnostic test process. If any
manipulations are required, they must be carried out by someone other than the driver of the
vehicle.
Always follow the special precautions shown in the DS application when running.
Keep the unit and its cable away from any moving parts.
Always immobilize the vehicle by any means available (Put automatic transmissions in “Park” and
manual gearboxes in neutral, apply the parking brake, check the wheels, ...) to avoid any risk of
the vehicle moving by accidental operation of the starter or drive train.
Do not use the unit, particularly the setting functions or actuator tests if the vehicle is not in the
operators field of vision.
Always connect the vehicle to exhaust gas extraction systems that conform to the current
regulations when the vehicle is running. As very high temperatures may be reached during static
regeneration of the particle filter, always make sure that the extraction system is compatible to
avoid risks of damage and fire. If in doubt, carry out the operations outside and away from any
flammable materials (plants, furniture, fuel pumps, tanks, etc.).
Always wear PPE (safety glasses, shoes, ear protection, gloves etc.) which conform to the
company regulations and/or the local safety regulations currently in force.
6. CARE AND MAINTENANCE
6.1 Maintenance
The BlueTech VCI can be cleaned with a soft, lint-free cloth and a neutral automobile
maintenance product for “interior plastics”.
Do not use abrasive or corrosive cleaning products or rough cloths.
Do not immerse the BlueTech VCI.
6.2 Replacement of the connector torch batteries
With the VCI disconnected, remove
the 2 screws on the back of the
connector.

Remove the button. If the button will
not come out easily, push gently with
a slim pin in the two screw holes.
Undo the 4 screws then remove the
plate.

Replace the batteries (2 x CR1216)
and be careful of the polarity
(positive uppermost).
Dispose of the old batteries as
described in the section RECYCLING
AND DISPOSAL
Replace in the reverse order making
sure that the plate is correctly
positioned (contact towards the
cable).
6.3 Replacing the OBD cable
With the VCI disconnected, remove
the 2 screws holding the connector.

Replace the cable making sure that it
is correctly positioned using the error-
proofing lug on the connector body.
Replace the 2 screws but do not
overtighten them.
