7.3 Wire rope replacement
Wire rope needs to be replaced immediately when one of the following is detected.
1. Wire rope has kinks
2. Wire rope shows distortion
3. Wire rope shown signs of corrosion
4. Wire rope shows signs of excessive wear
where 1 of the strands is damaged and has more
than 3 of the 19 wires damaged.
When replacing wire rope, checkforwear on parts, i.e. drum, set screw, hook block and replace
if necessary.
Removing old wire rope:
1. Disassemble the hook from wire rope (thimble end).
2. Carefully pull the wire rope by rotating the drum.
3. Remove the set screw of drum and pull the wire rope (ferrule end) out of the drum
Insalling new wire rope
1. Insert wire rope (ferrule end) into the hole and tightly fix it with a set screw
2. Carefully and tightly wind the wire rope in order by rotating the drum.
3. Assemble the hook block to the wire rope (thimble end)..
Warning: Always leave a minimum of 3 wraps of wire rope around the drum to support the
rated load.
