Denon AVR-1801 User manual

Outstanding Dolby Digital and DTS Sound At An Affordable Price
■Dolby Digital and DTS Decoders
Equipped with both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 channel decoding, the
AVR-1801 provides thrilling surround sound with the thousands of
Dolby Digital and DTS encoded DVDs, as well as the growing library of
DTS 5.1 channel music recordings available on CD.
■Fully Discrete, Equal Power Five Amplifier Channels, 70 Watts Each
Front............. 70 W + 70 W (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08 % THD)
105 W + 105 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.7 % THD)
Center.......... 70 W (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08 % THD)
105 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.7 % THD)
Surround...... 70 W + 70 W (8 ohms, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08 % THD)
105 W + 105 W (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.7 % THD)
For optimum Dolby Digital and DTS reproduction, the AVR-1801 fea-
tures high quality, wideband audio amplification, providing 70 watts
power output for each of the five main channels. A large capacity
power supply includes a high current power transformer along with
discrete power output devices on all five amplifier channels for highest
dynamic range and superb reproduction clarity.
■5 Channel Stereo Mode
DENON's exclusive 5 Channel Stereo mode provides superb surround
sound with conventional two channel music and video sources. Hear
exciting surround sound from all five speakers with your favorite two
channel music sources such as CD, tape, stereo radio and stereo
video sources.
■Virtual Surround Mode
Surround yourself with sensational 3D soundfield envelopment using
just one pair of speakers. The AVR-1801's Virtual Surround mode pro-
vides a dramatic psychoacoustic surround sound effect, using two
speakers with Dolby Digital 5.1 encoded sources.
■DENON DSP Surround Modes Add Listening Excitement
Put yourself in the middle of your favorite concert hall and music environments
with DENON's DSP acoustic environment simulation modes. These
DSP modes add spacious surround sound enhancements to your
favorite music and video sources, and include these distinctly different
sounding effects:
1. 5 Channel Stereo 5. Video Game
2. Virtual Surround 6. Matrix
3. Rock Arena 7. Mono Movie
4. Jazz Club
■Cinema Equalizer
The sound from movie sources recorded in Dolby Digital, DTS or other
formats emphasizes correction of components that deteriorate in the
high-frequency range due to the movie screen. If this sound is reproduced
in the home theater without correction, the high-frequency range is too
strong. The AVR-1801 features a Cinema Equalizer to correct these
high-frequency components so that the sound is clearer and easier to
listen to. (For Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic, and DTS surround modes)
AVR-1801
Dolby Digital and DTS A/V Receiver
NEW MODEL INFORMATION
The AVR-1801 is an A/V receiver that has inherited advanced technology for high-quality sound from DENON’s high-end
models. The power amp section features a discrete configuration to ensure equal response from all five channels, each of
which is driven with a robust 70 watts of power to let you enjoy rock-solid, dynamic sound.
As the AVR-1801 is equipped with Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, all of your favorite music and movie
sources are reproduced with outstanding clarity and exciting spaciousness.
The AVR-1801 naturally provides a generous array of input and output terminals, including 2 optical digital inputs and
1 coaxial digital input for audio, and 4 sets of composite video inputs and 4 sets of S-video inputs for video sources.
■Supports Next Generation High Resolution Formats
Future system upgrade capability is provided with the AVR-1801's 6 Channel
External Input feature. For next generation high resolution multi-channel
audio formats such as DVD-Audio and SACD, the 6 Channel External
Input is equipped with a wideband frequency response extending to
100 kHz. In addition, the digital inputs support high resolution 24 bit,
96 kHz stereo PCM soundtracks, available on selected audiophile DVD
music releases.
■"S" and Composite Video Switching
Four sets of composite video (coaxial jack) and four sets of "S"-video
terminals are provided (TV, VCR-1, VCR-2 and DVD inputs), allowing
a full complement of video sources to be switched and routed to the
monitor TV.
■Front A/B Speaker Terminals
Two sets of speaker terminals are provided for the main (left and right)
speakers. This allows the use of a second pair of stereo speakers in
another room in the home.
■Versatile Input & Output Terminals
For maximum system flexibility, the AVR-1801 is provided with an
abundance of audio and video input and output terminals. Three
assignable digital inputs, two optical and one coaxial, can be config-
ured according to your system's component output capabilities. The
AVR-1801 provides seven sets of analog inputs, along with four sets
of video inputs, for total system connection flexibility.

automatically remembers the surround mode you last used for each
program source, so that you do not need to select the mode again for
that program.
■Audiophile Quality Speaker Terminals
In addition to accepting bare wire or pin terminations, the
front main speaker terminals (left, center, and right) can
also accept banana-plug terminals for full compatibility
with high grade speaker cables, along with easy connec-
tion capability.
■Multi-Function Preset Memory Remote Controller
The supplied system remote controller features a large selection of remote
control codes to operate other components in your home theater system,
including codes for selected DENON models, along with remote control
codes from other manufacturers. The most frequently used buttons are
laid out separately for TV, VCR and DVD, for maximum ease-of-use.
■Acclaimed Customization Feature
As with all of DENON’s high-grade A/V amplifiers, the AVR-1801 lets
you adjust delay times and other parameters so that you can customize
the performance of the AVR-1801 to suit your own home theater and
enhance operating ease. The adjustments are easy to make via a dialog
format on the fluorescent display on the front panel.
