Battery instructions and warnings
Battery use and lifespan
The Devine Roadster is delivered with a pre-installed 12V DC lead acid battery. This battery delivers the
required voltage to power the device without having to plug it into a mains socket. After removing the speaker
The information in this user manual is subject to change at any time without notice.

from the box, it’s recommended to test it using the included microphone to make sure the accessories are all
in good working order. It is then strongly recommended to charge the battery completely before use to
ensure a long lifespan.
Please bear in mind that this type of battery is not designed to be (almost) fully discharged. If the device
indicates that the voltage is weak and the red LOW indicator lights up, the device needs to be plugged into a
mains socket so the battery can charge.
If the device shuts off after the LOW indicator has lit up, and the battery is not recharged within a short period
of time (max. a couple of days), then it’s likely that the battery’s expected lifespan will decrease.
The battery is housed in a special compartment located on the side of the device. Please contact your dealer
if you suspect that the battery is defective and needs to be replaced. An experienced technician is qualified
to replace the battery. Devine strongly recommends that users do not attempt to replace the battery
themselves. Replacing the battery is done at your own risk.
WARNING
Risk of explosion if the battery is not properly replaced.
Only replace the battery with one that is identical in type and specifications.
Do not expose batteries to intense heat from sunlight, open fire, etc
Do not leave batteries out in an environment with extreme temperatures, as this may cause explosions or
fluid or gas leaks.
Do not burnbatteries placethem in a hot oven, cut or crush them. This could cause the batteries to explode.
Do not expose batteries to extremely low pressure (high altitude), as this may cause explosions or fluid or
gas leaks.
Recycling
If the maximum lifespan of the battery has been reached and it no longer functions (properly), it should be
removed from the device.
Batteries can not be thrown away together with regular rubbish. They contain hazardous chemicals that can
harm the environment. When batteries are recycled properly, they become a valuable source of sustainable
material. Contact your local authority about how to dispose of batteries in an eco-friendly way.

Operating the device
The Devine Roadster is a practical battery-powered speaker suitable for any application where speech
and/or music needs to be amplified. For optimal use of this device, it is recommended to read the following
tips thoroughly.
General use
The Devine Roadster is equipped with a tablet holder slot, located on the top of the device. A wide range of
tablets, smartphones, and other media players, with or without a protective cover, can be placed in this slot
during use.
As long as the media player is not connected to the speaker via a cable, it can be placed vertically as well as
horizontally in the holder. When transporting the Roadster, it is recommended to remove the media player
from the holder.
USB port
The Roadster is equipped with a USB charging socket, which is located on the side of the device. This
socket is designed for supplying power to a media player like a tablet or smartphone. This socket is not
designed for playing music and/or transferring data.
The USB charging socket has a power capacity of 5 volts, 1 A. This is usually sufficient to supply enough
power or in any case ensure the battery is kept fully charged while playing music and/or videos.
Bear in mind that using this output will have an impact on the battery life of the Roadster’s built-in battery.
Please note: because every multimedia manufacturer has their own set of requirements for device charging,
not all players will function with the Roadster’s USB charging socket. If the 1A power this charging socket
supplies is not sufficient, your device will not charge. Please consult your media player’s user manual for
more information regarding minimum charging requirements.
Fixed handles
The Roadster has two fixed handles located on the top so it can be lifted and carried easily. Always use
these handles when lifting and moving the speaker.
Extendible handle and trolley handle
The extendible handle is easy to use and can be retracted when not in use to save space during transport
and storage. Do not lift the speaker by means of this handle, which is located in the rear. To extend the
handle, push the button on the top and pull it up and towards you at the same time. The handle will extend in
three segments and click into place. You can then use the handle to move the speaker like a trolley, thanks
to the two in-line wheels.
To retract the trolley handle, push the button on the top again and push the handle down, away from you.
Once completely retracted, the handle will click in place.
Using the trolley system
The in-line wheels on the Roadster are designed to help you move the device over relatively flat, even
surfaces such as an indoor floor, an asphalt path, etcetera. It is strongly recommended not to wheel the
device over obstacles like kerbs, steps, high thresholds or poorly maintained pathways. This can cause
serious damage to the wheels. If the obstacle seems too high, lift the device and carry it over the obstacle
using the fixed handles.
It is not recommended to transport the device over soft, loose surfaces like grassy fields, gravel, sand, and
so forth.
The information in this user manual is subject to change at any time without notice.

Protection during transport
The Devine Roadster is easy to transport, but it is not (splash)proof. It is therefore recommended to take
precautions when transporting the device outdoors in rain or adverse weather conditions. Should the device
be exposed to rain or moisture, allow it to dry completely before using it. If this is not done, a short circuit
could occur, which can cause permanent damage and/or injury.
Grille
The Devine Roadster is equipped with a metal grille on the front which protects the speaker components.
Audio technology
The Roadster features the very latest in audio technology. By adhering to the following tips and instructions,
you are making the most of what this speaker has to offer with the very best possible audio and performance
quality.
Line output
The line output of this battery-powered speaker enables you to link multiple Roadsters or other devices with
a line input. This way, you enlarge the audio dispersion and increase the total performance of your sound
system.
It consists of a TRS jack connector that transmits a stereo signal.
Instrument input
The instrument input is suitable for connecting a device that requires active amplification like an electro-
acoustic guitar with a built-in preamp, for instance. The Roadster is less suitable for the direct amplification of
an electric guitar with passive electronics, but it can be still used for this purpose.
The instrument input is fitted with an unbalanced TS jack connector that expects a mono signal.
Microphone input
The microphone input can be used to connect the included microphone or a different microphone of your
choice.
It is designed for dynamic microphones and has an unbalanced TS jack connector.
Connecting a cable with a TRS connector may cause problems. Always use the included cable for
connecting the microphone.
Aux input
The aux input is suitable for any device that transmits a line signal such as tablets, computers, MP3 players,
smartphones, DJ controllers, PA mixers, CD players, and countless other devices that are equipped with an
RCA connector or a mini jack plug.
When linking devices, it’s also possible to connect the jack output of the first Roadster to the aux input of a
second Roadster. This will ensure that both speakers reproduce the same audio.
LED power indicators
The LED battery status indicators are located on top of the Roadster. As long as the green LEDs are lit, the
device can be used to produce sound. If the red LEDs light up, it is recommended to connect the speaker to
a mains socket immediately so the battery can charge.
Volume and tone control
The Roadster is equipped with a volume control for the following components:
– volume control for instrument input
The information in this user manual is subject to change at any time without notice.
Version: 1.0 Date of creation and author's initials:: 6-01-2017 RV Revision date and author's initials: -

– volume control for microphone input
– master volume control for all inputs
There is also a 2-band equalizer that enables you to control the balance between high and low tones.
The sound is adjusted by turning the Treble and Bass controls to the left or to the right. The Treble control is
for adjusting the amount of high tones, the Bass control is for the low tones. You can achieve the most ideal
and neutral setting by setting both controls to 12 noon with the indicator exactly in the middle. By turning
either of the controls to the left, these tones will become less audible, and turning them to the right will make
them more audible.
Bear in mind that the sound can distort or clip if you turn one or both controls too far to the right. It is
therefore recommended to only use these controls for subtle sound corrections and never turn them
completely to the left or right.
Bluetooth connectivity
The Devine Roadster features a built-in Bluetooth receiver so it can stream music wirelessly from a source
device by means of Bluetooth functionality.
In order to pair the speaker with a source device, activate Bluetooth on your source device. It will then
automatically scan the area for available devices. Next, push and hold down the button on the Roadster until
the blue status LED starts to flash.
The Roadster will appear in the list of available devices under the name “Devine”. To establish a connection,
the Roadster will pair with the source device. The connection is confirmed when the blue LED status
indicator shines continuously and sound comes out of the Roadster, provided that the Master Volume is not
turned completely to the left.
Once the connection with the device has been established, it cannot be overridden by a different source
device. To pair the Roadster with a different source device, you’ll need to disconnect the current source
device . When you’ve done that, the LED will start to flash, indicating that the speaker is actively searching
for another source device to pair with.
The Roadster will remember which source device it was last paired with. If the Roadster locates the source
device, and if Bluetooth on your device is still activated, it will connect automatically.
To maintain optimal signal stability, keep the source device as close to the speaker as possible. The farther
away the source device is from the Roadster, the greater the chance of skips, dips, or even complete signal
loss. It should be possible to create a stable connection at a distance of about 10 metres provided there are
no wall or obstacles blocking the signal. The presence of other equipment that uses Bluetooth, WiFi or other
wireless connectivity, can also effect the signal quality.
Volume settings
The Devine Roadster does not have a built-in (clip) limiter, which means there is no visible indication that
clipping is about to occur. You can however monitor this yourself by keeping the sound and performance of
the speaker under control. You’ll know when components are clipping if you hear distortion and crackling
sounds coming out of the speaker. If this happens, it is recommended to lower the volume levels until these
sounds are no longer audible. Check whether the source device is transmitting a distorted signal or not, and
make sure the tone control is not set too low or too high. If this is the case, the clipping will still be present,
regardless of the Roadster’s volume level.
Using the microphone
The Devine Roadster comes complete with a microphone cable and microphone with an on/off switch. If the
microphone is not actively being used but it is connected to the Roadster, switch it ‘off’ so it won’t pick up any
unwanted sounds.
The information in this user manual is subject to change at any time without notice.
Version: 1.0 Date of creation and author's initials:: 6-01-2017 RV Revision date and author's initials: -

When you want to use the microphone, it will need to be switched ‘on’. For optimal sound quality, the
vocalist/speaker should hold the microphone at a maximum distance of 5 cm away from their mouth. They
should speak or sing clearly into the microphone so minimal amplification is necessary. The microphone is
directional, meaning it will not capture as much sound from the back or sides of the microphone.
Never hold the microphone directly in front of the Roadster as this can cause feedback, which results in a
loud, high-pitched tone. Should this happen accidentally, remove the microphone from the vicinity of the
Roadster immediately and turn the volume controls down completely.
It is highly recommended that speakers/vocalists position themselves next to or behind the Roadster to avoid
feedback.
Power mains
The Devine Roadster has a built-in battery, but can also function when plugged into the power mains. The
advantage of this is that as you use the Roadster, the battery is charging at the same time so you can use it
wirelessly another time.
The green LED status indicator will light up while the battery is charging. Once the battery is full, charging will
stop and the green LED will go out.
Stand adapter
On the underside of the Devine Roadster, there is a 35mm stand flange. With it, the speaker can be easily
mounted on a stand, which will allow high tones to be carried further, reaching a larger audience.
For best result, the speaker should be placed on the stand at a height of about 1.8 metres.
If the speaker is mounted on a stand, make sure the stand is not placed in a pathway and/or can t be
knocked over. Fold the stand legs out completely for optimal stability.
