The Artis active subwoofers are equipped with a built-in crossover that ensures the incoming signal is filtered
so that the subwoofer only receives the low frequencies.
The line signal outputs can be switched between flat and HPF . When flat is selected, the full input signal is
sent to the line outputs and when HPF is selected, everything, apart from the low frequencies, is sent to the
line outputs. HPF should normally be selected when a satellite speaker is used together with the subwoofer
as this relieves the speaker of the low frequencies leaving more power for the mid and high tones for better
overall performance.
Ground lift function
The active Artis subwoofers have a ground lift function. When various pieces of connected audio equipment
are plugged into different power groups and/or several types of equipment work together on one power
group, ground loops can occur. These result in an audible hum that negatively influences sound quality. With
the help of the ground lift function, the link between the input and output signals is interrupted so that
separate circuits are created that no longer influence each other. This can solve many problems with hum
and noise.
How to adjust the s eaker volume
The Artis active subwoofers offer good audio amplification at an affordable price. The built-in components are
designed to work together in order to produce good audio quality through normal use.
If you notice that the speaker sounds different than normal (distortion or crackling) and/or the Clip LED on
the rear lights up, then reduce the volume level immediately. Continuously overloading the speaker can lead
to permanent damage. Make sure your sound system is set up so that the connected audio source cannot
transmit a heavily overloaded signal. DJ devices such as mixers or controllers are capable of this.
Set the audio source to transmit a signal of +3 to +6 dB (with music) and adjust the speaker volume so that
the Clip LED does not light up. If your equipment does not have an indicator for this, set it to the maximum
volume (making sure the signal is not distorted) and turn the speaker volume up gradually ensuring the
signal remains under the Clip level.
As long as the source device continues to transmit at 0 dB (the most ideal level for optimal volume), you can
not overload the speaker, not even with an accidental peak of +3 or +6 dB.
If you are not at the controls of your speaker system, it s recommended to use a limiter that penalises heavy
overloading by reducing the volume considerably. This results is a lower volume level and an inferior sound,
but this solution is much better than allowing the speaker to overload, which can cause damage to the
speaker components.
LED indicators
The blue LED on the speaker will light up whenever the speaker is connected to an active power source and
turned on.
A green LED indicates if the speaker is receiving an audio signal.
The red LED on the speaker is an indicator for the clip limiter and will light up whenever the amplifier module
is overloaded by an input signal that is too loud . In this case, appropriate adjustments should be made until
the clip LED indicator no longer lights up.
Continually overloading the amplifier module and causing the clip LED to light up is likely to cause
permanent damage to both the amplifier module and the speaker components and shorten their lifespan
considerably. Damage caused by negligent use is not covered by the warranty.
Using external equi ment
It s possible to use the Artis subwoofers with external equipment like crossovers, equalisers and speaker
management systems. Bear in mind that using external equipment may change the character of the
speaker s sound.
Also bear in mind that the subwoofer s built-in crossover is always active. It s only the line outputs that can be
switched between flat and HPF .
