Physical Description and Specifications
The 2020 IMG is a low profile (1U), rack-mounted system designed to fit into a 482.6 mm
(19-inch) rack. It includes a docking station and a field replaceable tray that mates to the
docking station. The 2020 IMG hardware provides:
Centralized and a distributed architecture
Scalable configurations
Front panel span and alarm status indicators
Rear I/O panel interfaces (host control, network interfaces, redundancy)
Configuration information provided on a sticker on the bottom of the unit ( part
number, revision, serial number, and MAC).

Power and Fan Control
When the tray is fully seated in the docking station and the main board receives a fully
seated signal from the docking station, the power ramps up. If a fault is detected by the
CPU, the main board shuts down.
The 2020 IMG uses the fans on the front of the panel to draw air into the unit to cool the
main board and the I/O board. The air exhausts out of vent holes on the side and rear of
the docking station.
The fans connect directly to the main board and are fused and controlled by a fan controller
on the main board. The main board also provides temperature sensors that monitor
temperature at strategic locations on the board. When the fan controller detects a
temperature overage, the fans increase their speed. For example:
If one fan fails, the remaining fans increase speed to full on to supply the required
cooling.
If any of the temperature sensors detect an over temperature condition, the fans
increase speed to full on to supply the required cooling.

Unpacking the 2020 IMG
Complete the following steps to unpack the 2020 IMG:
1. Open the shipping box and remove the packing list.
2. Review the packing list to verify that it matches what was shipped with your order. If
discrepancies exist, contact a Dialogic sales representative.
3. Remove the protective cover and carefully lift the 2020 IMG from the shipping box.
4. Inspect the 2020 IMG and contact a sales representative if it is not what you
ordered.
Retain the original packaging for shipping the system. If you do not need the packaging,
recycle both the corrugated cardboard and polyethylene foam. For information and
procedures specific to your area, contact your local recycling facility.

Front Panel Interfaces and LEDs

when IP connectivity is unavailable.

Licensing
The 2020 IMG requires a license to use various functions including SS7 Signaling, ISDN
Signaling, and VoIP. The licenses are distributed by email when a 2020 IMG is purchased.
Each license will unlock different functionality and the licenses are sold in different
increments to address each customer needs. After receiving the license, transfer the license
to the /opt/dialogic/common/license directory.
File Format
The license file supplied contains a unique number which is derived from the serial number
of the I/O on the 2020 IMG and a 12 bit unique number embedded in the hardware. The
format of the file includes an eight digit serial number (NNNNNNNN) followed by a
timestamp (YYYYMMDDhhmmss).

If the license is renamed or altered, it will become unusable.
Downloading the license
1. Before transferring new license to license directory, rename any existing licenses
already loaded. For example, an existing license could have the _old extension added
to it. (Ex. 12345678_20100726043030_old.cfg)
2. Transfer new license as a dialogic user to the /opt/dialogic/common/license
directory.
3. Open ClientView and Right-click the node being queried and select Licensing Info
and click on commit.
4. The License Info pane appears. Click Download Node License. The license is then
configured onto the 2020 IMG and the license Info page now displays the new license
specifications.
Note: The license is downloaded based on the serial number and a unique number
embedded in the hardware. If a license other than the license intended for this machine is
sent to the 2020 IMG, the license will not download. It has to be specifically created for this
machine's serial number and unique number. If license is renamed or in any way altered, it
will become unusable.
Viewing License Information
Use the License Info page to view page status
Evaluation License
Evaluation licenses expire after a specified number of days. The License Expiration Info
field within the Licensing pane indicates the date and time the evaluation license will expire.
Licenses that are not designated as evaluation licenses will display Does not expire.
Seventy-two hours before an evaluation license is set to expire, an EventView alarm
displays the number of hours remaining on the evaluation license.

License Validation Failure
The following icon displays on the Physical Node object in the WebUI page tree:
A license validation has failed. Verify the serial number for license is serial
number of 2020 IMG. See License Info page.

unless the license is generated as an evaluation license.
If the license considered an evaluation license then the
Date and Time the license expires is displayed
Note: Licenses do not expire unless the license is
configured as an evaluation license.
System Software
System Software License is needed on all 2020 IMG's
and is specific to the software build. A basic System
Software License includes a default 1024 DSP Resources.
Security ID
The security ID is a code embedded in the ROM of the
2020 IMG. Each license generated must have the code
embedded in the license file for the system to work.
SS7_Base
Must be loaded on license file if SS7 stacks are going to
be configured.
SS7_TCAP_TRANSACTION
Up to 2500 TCAP transactions/second in 100
transactions/second increments can be licensed.
SS7_LINK
Links are licensed in 2 link pairs, up to 64 links.
SS7_ISUP_PORT (CIC's)
Up to 2016 Ports can be licensed.
M3UA AS
Up to four M3UA Application Server stacks can be
licensed per 2020 IMG. Licenses are created in one stack
increments.
M3UA SG
Up to four M3UA Signaling Gateway stacks can be
licensed per 2020 IMG. Licenses are created in one stack
increments.
M3UA Link/Association
Up to 64 associations can be licensed. Licenses are
created in 2 step increments.
ISDN_Ports
Up to 2016 ports can be licensed for ISDN B channels.
See table below.
TDM_Ports
There are a total of 2016 TDM ports available to be

licensed. When initially purchasing the 2020 IMG, the
licenses are sold as 1 DS3, 2 DS3's, or 3 DS3's. Once the
initial license bundle is created, the TDM ports can then
be licensed in 32 port increments. Table 1 below displays
the increments that the licenses are created.
VoIP_Ports
If the 2020 IMG has two VoIP modules installed, there
are a total of 2016 VoIP Ports. Channels are assigned to
each module in groups of 32. For example, if the 2020
IMG is licensed for 96 VoIP channels, 64 will be on the
first module and 32 will be on the second module. The
Maximum number of VoIP ports that can be licensed is
2016.
Note: The 2020 IMG has a maximum port density of
2016 VoIP ports. This is true for all codecs except the
AMR codec. The maximum port density when using AMR
codec is restricted to 1560 ports.
AMR Codec License
The maximum number of VoIP ports using the AMR
codec is restricted to 1560 ports.
DSP_Resource Points
All 2020 IMGs comes fully licensed with 6144 DSP
Resource Points.
Secure Communications
The secure communication license adds the ability to
configure TLS and then SRTP for secure SIP
communication. With this license, both SIP signaling and
SIP RTP will be encrypted.
Switchkit Node
The Switchkit®_Node license will allow the BDN EMS to
communicate with the 2020 IMG.
Note: When licensing remote CICs, each remote node must have an SS7_ISUP port license
that equals the number of CICs needed on the remote node.
Note: When configuring SS7 redundancy, both the Active 2020 IMG and its Peer/Redundant
node must have an SS7 Base license. The Base license allows stacks and links to be created
on the Peer/Redundant node.

Pre-Installation Considerations
The 2020 IMG has the following location requirements:

Restricted area, such as a dedicated equipment room or limited
access office with access only by trained personnel.
120/240 V AC
Does not have to be in a restricted area. Can be located in a clean
and well-ventilated office space.
Locating the Base MAC Address
The base MAC address is printed on the identification label located on the underside rear of
the 2020 IMG. The base MAC address is assigned to the CTRL ports. The other MAC
addresses are under software control.
Use this base MAC address when configuring the IP address. Because of its location, we
recommend that you obtain the base MAC address before you install the system. The
identification label is similar to this example:
Space Requirements
Allow approximately 76 cm (2.5 ft) of space in front of the 2020 IMG for removing and
maneuvering it with ease. Leave enough room so that air flow to the fans at the front and
the vent holes at the side and rear are not obstructed. Do not put the 2020 IMG inside a
cabinet with closed doors unless you can provide sufficient ventilation inside the cabinet.
The operating ambient temperature may exceed room temperature in an enclosed
equipment rack.
Caution: When installing the 2020 IMG, do not block the fans at the front as this will cause
the unit to overheat.
Electromagnetic Interference
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) can affect the performance of your system. When
selecting cables, keep the following information in mind:
Shielded cables prevent outside electrical interference and drains off any induced
current.

Twisted wire reduces induction, and thus interference, from one wire to the other.
Varying the length of twists reduces the potential for signal interference between
pairs.
Twisted pair wiring is available in various thicknesses. Thicker cable covers longer
distances and provides better sound quality, but it is more expensive.
Channel Service Units
A channel service unit (CSU) connects a digital phone line (T1/E1) from the telephone
company to a digital communications device. CSUs are required between all
telecommunications ports and the network to provide necessary linking capabilities such as:
Line conditioning for long haul transmissions
Remote loopback
Equalization
Regeneration and monitoring of digital signals
Digital circuit testing
Protection from outside lines
Electrostatic Discharge Protection
Always use electrostatic discharge protection when working with electronic components.
This protection includes electrostatic discharge (ESD) protective straps, shoes, or mats.
Caution: Electrostatic discharge from your body can damage integrated circuits during
installation.
