FIRSTSTEPS
BASICNETWORKREQUIREMENTS
The goal of this chapter is to provide basic info on the network setup necessary for performing tests and
validations of Digigram Contribution Solution (IQOYA *CALL, IQOYA *CALL/LE, IQOYA *MOBILE). Depending
onyourinfrastructure,thissetupmayrequirehelpfromyourITnetworkdepartment.
A. GENERALNETWORKCONCEPT
In a basic audio over IP contribution setup, the audio streams are usually composed of RTP over UDP packets
senttoanIPaddressonagivenUDPport.
Asaconsequence,anycontributionfromtheinternettoastudioinfrastructurewillprobablyimplyrouterport
managementbyopeningsomeportsforUDPforwardingintherouter.Thissimpleoperationwillallowthe
audiostreamtoreachyourequipmentinthestudio.
?
Whatdoesthismean?
Opening an UDP port for RTP audio means opening 2 ports: one for audio and another for control. The
audio port must be an even value greater than 1024, and the two ports must have consecutive values
(e.g. 5004 and 5005). Moreover, if you plan to use FEC for audio redundancy, you will have to open 4
consecutiveports(e.g.5004to5007).
B. ROUTERMANAGEMENT
SettingsforManualconnections
Let’s consider an IQOYA *CALL or IQOYA *MOBILE connected to the Internet via a classical Internet box or 3G/4G
link, and a IQOYA *CALL/LE in the studio connected to the studio LAN, protected by a firewall router, as shown in
thediagramnextpage.
We’lltryabasiccontributionsituationwheretheremotecodecconnectstothestudiocodec.

User Manual v0.99
Only the IP address (RouterPub_IP@) and port (RouterInPort) of the studio are known by the user. These are
the Public address and port of the studio router/firewall. The user will place a call from the remote codec to
thisaddressandport.
The studio codec is installed in the studio IP infrastructure and has an IP address (IQOYA_IP@) and audio
listening port (IQOYAInPort). These are the Private address and port of the codec within the studio IP
network.

AFIRSTUSECASE
IQOYA*CALL and IQOYA*CALL/LE are IP audio codecs of the IQOYA range based on Digigram FluidIP
technology. It is dedicated to the management of live remote audio contributions over IP networks (4G/3G, ADSL,
WiFi). It brings professional quality to establish full duplex connection between a reporter/mobile studio and a
newsroomorastudio.
IQOYA *CALL/LE works in symmetrical RTP mode, which allows for quick and easy setup of full duplex live audio
connectionsovertheinternet(noSIPrequired,noNATissues).
AtypicalusecaseofIQOYA*CALL/LEisthefollowing:
A remote journalist uses an iPhone with IQOYA *MOBILE application for real time live audio transmission towards a
radiostudio,overIP,througha3Gconnection.
On the radio site, an IQOYA *CALL/LE automatically accepts the IP audio stream coming from IQOYA *MOBILE,
and automatically sends back an audio feed to IQOYA*MOBILE (a live full duplex communication over IP is
established).
16/77

IQOYA *CALL - IQOYA *CALL/LE
User Manual v0.99
Theconfigurationofthesystemconsistsinthefollowing:
● Set the destination IP address of the IP audio stream generated by IQOYA *MOBILE as the public IP
addressoftherouteroftheradio,andselectaportnumberwhichisnotusedonthatrouter.
● Audio compression used by IQOYA *MOBILE must be selected according to the network bandwidth
capacity. (e.g. Digigram advises not to require more than 64 kbps data stream rate on 3G, therefore use an
audioencodingformatsuchasHEAAC32kbps)
● Configure the router of the radio so as to forward UDP traffic coming on the selected port number to the
privateIPaddressofIQOYA*CALL/LE,onagivenport.
● Configure IQOYA*CALL/LE IP audio source. Listening port must be the same port value the incoming IP
audiostreamontherouterhasbeenforwardedto.
As a consequence, as soon as IQOYA *CALL/LE decodes to its outputs the first IP audio frame coming from
IQOYA *MOBILE, it encodes its audio inputs and sends the corresponding IP audio stream to the IP address and
port from which it received the first frame from IQOYA *MOBILE. In other words, the same socket/port is used for
sendingandreceivingtheRTPaudiostreams.
ThismethodallowssimpleNATtraversalin95%ofusecasesanddoesnotrequireSIP.
