Thank you for choosing a Doherty Plinth. This user manual should be read carefully
before you use your plinth as it contains important information regarding the safe
operation and maintenance in order to provide reliable service.
Please ensure that you understand all the instructions thoroughly and if you have any
questions concerning the operation and/or maintenance, please contact your supplier
who will provide you with expert professional advice.

1. Introduction
The Doherty 2 and 3 Section Plinths have been developed specifically for applications
throughout the modern GP practice or Physiotherapy environment. The Plinths have
been designed for optimum flexibility to a very high specification. They are designed
to coordinate with other products within the extensive Doherty range.

1. Clear the area intended for the plinth of any obstacles and ensure the floor is level.
2. Move the plinth to the approximate position required. If the plinth cannot be
moved the castors need to be unlocked. To unlock the castors the rear half of the
lock pedal must be pressed down.
3. Ensure there is a clearance gap of at least 200mm (8”) at both ends of the couch
top.
4. Once the plinth has been positioned in its desired location the castors must be
locked. Press the front half of the lock pedal down to lock the plinth in position
(as shown in figure 1).
WARNING!
Castors must be locked when in use as it can be hazardous to both operator and
user.
3. PREPARING FOR USE

5. Situated on the backrest is a paper roll holder (paper
roll not supplied with couch). To install a roll, twist
anti-clockwise one black ball end fitting off the rod
and slide the rod out of its hanger. Position the paper
roll between the hanger and reposition the rod and ball
end fitting.
6. Plug the mains lead into the power supply and switch it on at the wall.
7. The Plinth is now ready for use.

WARNING!
If you wish to use this product outside of the UK seek professional advice as to the
compatibility of this product with the mains power supply type.
The plinth must only be used with a mains supply of 240V, 50Hz.

Ensure that all cables are clear of moving parts and not in tension.
3. PREPARING FOR USE

4.1 Height Adjustment
The Doherty Plinth has an electrical height adjustment system to aid patient care
and handling. The system is controlled via a touch button handset.
Before operating the handset always inform the patient of the action about to
take place.
• To raise the Plinth press the left button on the handset indicated by the arrow
pointing upwards. Keep the button depressed until the desired height is reached.
• To lower the Plinth press the right button on the handset indicated by the arrow
pointing downwards. Keep the button depressed until the desired height is
reached.
• The Plinth automatically stops when the maximum or minimum height of the
couch has been reached.
4. OPERATING THE PLINTH
The Plinth has an integral handset holder on both sides
of the seat section so that the handset can be stored
when not in use (as seen in Fig 4).

WARNING!
• Ensure there are no obstructions that could impede the couch movement or
could endanger the patient/carer.
• Never store anything under the couch

4.2 Adjusting the Backrest
The Plinth is fitted with an adjustable angle backrest. If the backrest is adjusted
with a patient on the Plinth ensure they are capable of supporting themselves. If
this is not possible it may be necessary to seek assistance to enable the patient
to be supported whilst the backrest angle is adjusted.
• To raise the backrest:
Lift the operating lever and gently lift the backrest up to the desired angle.
Release the lever once the backrest is at the desired angle.
• To lower the backrest:
Lift the operating lever and gently push the backrest down to the desired angle.
Release the lever once the backrest is at the desired angle.
4. OPERATING THE PLINTH
WARNING!
• The backrest must not be used to raise the patient
• Always ensure the backrest is locked in position
• Do not sit on the backrest section

4.3 Adjusting the Leg Rest (3 Section Plinth only)
The Doherty 3 Section Plinth is fitted with an adjustable angle leg rest.
• To raise the leg rest:
Lift the operating lever and gently lift the leg rest up to the desired angle.
Release the lever once the leg rest is at the desired angle.
• To lower the leg rest:
Lift the operating lever and gently push the leg rest down to the desired angle.
Release the lever once the leg rest is at the desired angle.
4. OPERATING THE PLINTH

If the Plinth is lowered down to its minimum height with the leg rest angled down, the
leg rest will automatically return to the horizontal position.
WARNING!
• The leg rest must not be used to raise the patient
• Always ensure the leg rest is locked in position
• Do not sit on the leg rest section
