About Natural Volume Air Drying
Natural Air Volume Drying (NAVD) is the safest and
most efficient way to dry pets. It not only makes a
groomer's job easier, but is a safe, healthy alternative to
traditional heat drying methods.
NAVD delivers high volume, room temperature air to
speed water evaporation. The blast of ambient air lifts and
separates a dog's coat, resulting in fast drying times, fluffy
coats and happy pets.
NAVD is safer than traditional heat drying because pets
are not exposed to potentially dangerous heat levels.
Room temperature air ensures a less stressful
environment for drying pets.
The keys to faster, more effective pet drying are
airflow, dehumidification and temperature. NAVD takes
place when all three of these elements are in place.
xAirflow speeds the drying process. The greater the
airflow, the faster pets dry.
xDehumidification, or creating a “dry zone” where
drying is being done is a critical element in speeding
the drying process. In an enclosed grooming area, the
bathing process releases moisture into the air. A
dehumidifier absorbs the humid air and returns it to
the environment as dry air. Fresh, dry air absorbs
more moisture, speeds evaporation and reduces
odors. Information about Dri-Eaz portable
dehumifidiers is available at www.Dri-Eaz.com.
xTemperature is one of the most misunderstood
elements of the drying process. Too little heat slows
the drying process, but too much heat is unsafe for
pets and uncomfortable for groomers. Effective and
safe drying takes place in the presence of warm,
ambient air at an approximate temperature of 72–74°
F or 22–23° C. Pets feel comfortable in room
temperature air, and tend not to shy away as they do
from the high heat created by traditional dryers.
Warm, dry air keeps pets from getting chilled and
prevents hypothermia.
NAVD deeply penetrates a dog's wet coat. The ambient
temperature airflow is less harmful to a dog's coat and
skin than traditional heat drying which robs moisture from
the skin, leaving it red, flaky and hot to the touch. Faster
drying not only frees up more time for grooming, but it also
enhances working conditions for grooming technicians.
NAVD inhibits the growth of mold and mildew in grooming
areas, thereby reducing unpleasant musty odors.
NAVD helps groomers make the most efficient use of their
time, safely and effectively.
This document provides pet drying tips based on NAVD
principles using Dri-Eaz airmovers and accessories. With
proper care, Dri-Eaz equipment will provide years of
reliable effective pet drying, ensuring happy pets and
satisfied customers.

Effective, focused ambient air drying.
SAFETY WARNINGS
DANGER: Do not place unit in standing or
running water. This may cause a risk of
electrical shock. Keep units out of baths, and do
not operate on a wet floor.
DANGER: Do not remove or alter the grounding plug. Do
not use the unit for any reason if it cannot be properly
grounded. Be sure to turn off unit and unplug unit from
outlet when not in use or before servicing. To prevent
damage to the cord, always unplug unit by grasping the
plug.
DANGER: The Dri-Dog is not a toy. Keep away from
children at all times.
WARNING: Do not allow any material to clog or
block air intakes, as this may cause units to
overheat and result in a fire or electrical hazard.
Regularly clear hair, lint and other substances from air
intakes.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Use the Dri-Dog to blow dirt and undercoat out of a dog
before grooming, to do fast and easy rough cuts, to get
rid of unwanted undercoat, or to separate matted hair. Use
the Dri-Dog after bathing a pet, to blow off the excess
water for faster drying. Use the Dri-Dog to dry quickly and
fluff before finishing the pet.
Caution: Do not blow air from the rubber cone directly into
a pet’s face, ears, or eyes. The forceful air may cause
injury to the pet. For drying these sensitive areas, or for
drying cats, try removing the rubber cone or unscrew the
entire handle assembly from the hose using the gentle
airflow.
Using your Dri-Dog: Plug in the unit. Hold the pet with
one hand to keep it calm. With the other hand, hold the
nozzle firmly and then turn on the switch to the speed you
desire.
1. Use the Dri-Dog to remove undercoat and dirt and
to loosen matted hair. Starting from rear of the pet,
slowly blow and separate the coat, exposing the skin.
Continue this procedure until all undercoat is released.
2. Use at the bathtub to blow off excess water after
bathing. First towel-dry the pet to remove dripping water.
Then start at the rear and use short fast strokes to blow off
excess water. Make sure to blow moisture off the pet from
the skin out, not just on the top of the coat.
3. Use at the grooming table to dry and fluff the pet
before finishing. Use the Dri-Dog at two different speeds,
with or without the rubber cone, depending on your drying
needs. The unit produces just enough heat to speed the
drying process without danger to the pet. A pet’s coat will
fluff and straighten during the drying process. Even if the
pet is already dry and needs more fluffing, the Dri-Dog will
help produce a straight, fluffy coat and enhance your
finishing groom for a quality look.
Other uses for your Dri-Dog
xBlow out dirt from between the grooves on your
grooming table.
xUse to remove dust and hair when cleaning
TurboDryers and other equipment.
xDry up excess water around tub area at the end of a
day, to avoid mold and mildew there.
xUse the Dri-Dog to clean off hard-to-reach shelves
and ceiling fixtures such as lights and fans.
MAINTENANCE
Unplug Before Cleaning. To prevent risk of
electrical shock, be sure you unplug the unit
before cleaning. Do NOT immerse the housing in
water.
Clean the Dri-Dog filter regularly to prevent over-heating
and loss of power. As hair builds up on the filter (located
on the bottom of the unit) just reach down and swipe off
the hair. Occasionally remove the filter by pulling it out of
the two holders.
Vacuum out hair and dirt, or wash the filter with soap
and running water. Be sure filter is completely dry before
reinstalling it in the Dri-Dog.
Wipe off the Dri-Dog housing, nozzle, cone and hose
with soap and damp cloth. To keep the housing shiny,
occasionally apply a vinyl cleaner protectant like those
designed for plastic surfaces in automobiles.

technician change brushes if you are not qualified to do it
yourself.
Opening the Unit
To open the unit (for maintenance cleaning, or for
changing the brushes) use the following steps. Notice:
Unplug unit to prevent risk of shock.
1. Using a large screwdriver or Ǫin. socket, remove the
four screws holding down the cover (the part with the
handle). Grasp the nozzle in the middle of the cover.
Gently pull outward, rocking back and forth if it fits too
tightly. The entire cover and motor assembly will come
free in one piece.
2. Lay the cover and motor assembly down on its side.
Now the body is open for inspection; clean it as
necessary.
3. If you need to remove the motor, note that the motor is
attached by a screw-clamp to a heavy rubber sleeve.
Loosen the top screw-clamp with a large screwdriver until
the motor slides out of the sleeve.

SAFETY WARNINGS
WARNING: Do not allow any material to clog or
block air intakes, as this may cause units to
overheat and result in a fire or electrical hazard.
Regularly clear hair, lint and other substances from air
intakes.
Keep children away: Do not allow children to play with or
around the unit, which could result in injury. Be sure the unit is
inaccessible to children when not attended.
Keep unit grounded: Always operate the unit with a
grounding plug and a grounded electrical outlet. A grounding
plug is an essential safety feature that helps reduce the risk of
shock or fire.
Protect power cord from damage: Never operate a unit with
a damaged power cord, as this may lead to electrical or fire
hazards. If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be
replaced by a cord of the same type and amperage rating.
Extension cords: Extension cords must be grounded and able
to deliver the appropriate voltage to the unit.
Do not use with speed control device: To reduce the risk of
fire or electric shock, do not use Turbodryers with a solid-state
speed control device.
Handle with care: Do not drop or throw the unit. Rough
treatment can damage the components or wiring and create a
hazardous condition.
Operate on stable surface: Always operate the unit on a
stable, level surface, like the floor or a strong counter, so it
cannot fall and cause injury.
Secure during transport: When transporting in a vehicle,
secure the unit to prevent sliding and possible injury to vehicle
occupants.
Keep out of water: Never operate the unit in pooled or
standing water, as this may create a risk of injury from
electrical shock. Do not store or operate outdoors. If electrical
wiring or components become wet, thoroughly dry them before
using the unit.
Keep air intakes clear: Do not clog or block air intakes. This
may cause the unit to overheat and result in a fire or electrical

become a fire hazard.
CLEAN EXTERIOR: Clean the housing with mild detergent and
water. Bring back the original shine with a vinyl cleaner and
polish like those used on automobile plastics.
EXTERIOR INSPECTION: Evaluate exterior components and
make sure they are properly installed. Listen to the unit for
abnormal sounds. Repair or replace components as needed.
Periodic maintenance (as needed)
Make sure unit is unplugged and the wheel has stopped.
Remove four screws to remove each side screen. This will
permit access to motor and wheel for cleaning.
CLEAN COMPONENTS: Use compressed air or a vacuum to
remove lint and dust from blower wheel, motor and side
screens.
NOTICE: Do not wet motor or wiring. To prevent damage to
electrical components, do not use a hose or pressure washer
to clean a TurboDryer. If electrical components do become
wet, dry them immediately.
MOTOR BEARINGS: The bearings on all Dri-Eaz TurboDryers
are permanently lubricated. Do not oil.

SAHARA ACCESSORY:
MULTI-CAGE ADAPTER KIT
Dry three pets with one TurboDryer!
The Multi-Cage Adapter Kit increases the drying capability of
your TurboDryer, enabling you to direct air to three pets cages
at once. The Multi-Cage Adapter Kit includes a snout adapter
that fits any Sahara TurboDryer. The snout adapter is attached
to three 8 ft. lengths of 4 in. ducting that are fastened to three
cage attachments on the other end.
1. Place the snout adapter over the mouth of the TurboDryer
and push the knobs of the spring hooks (included) into the
TurboDryer grill.
2. The length of the ducting can be modified by cutting the
ducting with household scissors and wire snips. (NOTE: the
shortest and straightest path from the TurboDryer will produce
the greatest airflow.)
3. Use the hooks to connect each cage attachment to the front
of a drying cage. Direct air flow into the lower portion of the
cage for the most effective drying results.
4. Slide the cage attachment door into the “open” position
before switching the unit on. Leaving the doors of unused
ducts in the “closed” position reduces overall airflow output.
MAINTENANCE
Check the ducting for fraying and wear. Replacement ducting
may be ordered from Dri-Eaz at 800-932-3030.
