DVIGear DVI-7520-PDU User manual

Introduction
Many AV products require the use of external AC power supply units (PSU) to power their internal
electronic circuitry. These external PSUs (wall warts) can pose a major challenge to system designers as
they occupy valuable space within AV equipment racks where there are a limited number of AC outlets.
Furthermore, some external PSUs are poorly designed and ill-suited for use in high prole applications.
DVIGear’s DVI-7520-PDU Power Distribution Unit is engineered from the ground up for 24/7 mission
critical applications. This unit offers an unprecedented level of reliability with an MTBF of greater than
220,000 hours. The DVI-7520-PDU provides +12 VDC power on 8x outputs, each rated for 24 watts.
The unit has an overall power reserve of 200 watts. These features allow system designers and facility
managers to optimize power management through more efcient use of rack space, which makes this
unit an ideal solution for a wide range of professional applications.
The DVI-7520-PDU is housed in a rugged 1U half-rack mountable enclosure. It accepts AC line voltages
auto-ranging from 88-264 VAC and AC line frequencies from 47-63 Hz. All outputs include extensive
protection against overload, over-voltage and over-temperature. Versatile and reliable Phoenix
connectors allow for universal connections to various products that require +12 VDC power.

Installation
1.) Install the power distribution unit in a rack mount environment using DVI-7520-RMK (purchased
separately). Care must be taken to ensure that the airow is not restricted in any way. (2)
2.) Connect the AC power input cable to a power source and to the power distribution unit.
3.) Connect devices to be powered to the DC outputs of the unit using the appropriate power
supply extension cables (see page 4). (3)
4.) Turn the power distribution unit ON using the power switch at the rear of the unit. Check to
make sure the power LED on the front panel is lit.
5.) The unit is ready for use.
Note 3: WARNING: The DVI-7520-PDU provides +12VDC outputs. Take care to avoid connecting any 5VDC
devices to these +12VDC outputs as this may cause damage and system failure.
Product Overview
1. Power LED Continuously lit when unit is receiving power and switched ON.
2. AC Power Input Connect supplied AC power cord securely to unit.
3. Power Switch This switch turns the unit ON / OFF. Lights red when turned ON.
4. DC Power Outputs (1) 2-pin Phoenix connectors. See page 4 for more details.
5. Ventilation Holes (2) Allow airow through the device.
6. Grounding Screw Attach a ground (earth) connection to the unit with this screw.
7. Mounting Holes (underneath) Use the included mounting screws to attach the unit to a rack mount
kit (p.n. DVI-7520-RMK –must be purchased separately).
Note 1: Each output is rated for +12 VDC / 2A (24 watts)
maximum. If using DC power cables other than those
provided with this unit, use 18 AWG wire and observe
proper polarity as shown on page 4.
Note 2: WARNING: In order to ensure proper operation
and long term reliability, care must be taken to ensure
that the airow is not restricted in any way.
