EAAZPOOL SOLAR IONIZER GUICK GUIDE
STEP 1: PREPARING YOUR POOL STEP 3: CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
STEP 2: USING THE SOLAR POOL IONIZER
Start with clear, algae-free water. If your pool water is not clear enough, you may need
to “shock” the does of oxidizer/chlorine prior to floating the Solar Pool Ionizer.
02/Starting chlorine levels should be between 1.5–3.0 ppm and pH levels between 7.6 –7.8
ppm.
03/Use the included Copper Test Kit to check that levels are between 0.0 – 0.1 ppm. If
levels are higher, this may indicate previously used algaecides, which should be
removed by using a sequestering or chelating agent.
To remove the mesh basket, place downward pressure on it while unscrewing the
screw, otherwise it will be difficult to loosen. Do not over-tighten the screw when
placing back on or it can strip the threads.
Use the supplied metal brush to clean the blue/green mineral build-up from the
copper anode and stainless-steel coil. TIP: Cleaning when wet is much easier.
For easier cleaning, you can soak the copper anode in vinegar overnight and then
rinse it off. The copper anode and stainless-steel coil do not have to be perfectly
clean for the unit to function properly.
This Solar Ionizer purifies and protects against microorganisms by transforming your
water! This transformation into biologically healthy and algae-resistant mineral water
is done using safe and effective low power output. EaazPool’s Solar Ionizer acts as a
percolating charger to generate ions from the power of the sun. This Ionizer can be
used effectively in both saltwater and non-saltwater pool systems. The EaazPool
Solar Ionizer’s ability to generate beneficial mineral ions while collecting undesirable
minerals as calcium and iron truly set it apart from competitors. This ability has an
effect that softens your water.
The Ionizer’s anode is designed to be sacrificial and to slowly erode forming a scale
buildup requiring occasional cleanings. This buildup on the anode is completely
normal and means it is functioning as intended!
01/Perform a weekly cleaning of the copper anode, stainless-steel coil, and mesh basket.
01/Float the Solar Pool Ionizer in the water and allow it to get full sun all day. The Solar
Ionizer needs at least 4-5 hours of sunlight.
Sufficient copper ions levels will take 2 – 3 weeks to build-up in your water. While in
this waiting period, you will have to keep algae down by continuing your regular
maintenance.
02/Operate the pool pump during the daylight hours to promote circulation and distribution
of copper ions.
03/You will see a blue/green mineral build-up on the copper anode within 5–7 days,
indicating the unit is functioning.
05/Do not add algaecide or water clarifiers to your water. If you need to shock your pool,
use a chlorine-free shock treatment.
04/Once copper levels have reached 0.2 – 0.5 ppm, you can reduce chlorine levels to 1.0-
2.0 ppm. If the ion reading exceeds 0.5 ppm, remove the device from the water for one
week and monitor the ion level (weekly). Once the level drops to 0.3 ppm or lower, return
the Ionizer to the pool and continue the weekly ion check.
(Important: Copper levels may not exceed 1.0 ppm at any time). Copper levels can be
determined using the monitor that is included in the test kit. Once the maximum levels of
copper are reached, remove the solar ionizer from the water. The target copper ion level
is 0.3 ppm. If the ion level remains at 0.3 ppm, then continue to float all the time.
02/The copper anode should be replaced when it reduces to a 1/4" in diameter at its
thinnest point. It is normal to see pitting on the copper core anode as it wears.
Replacement parts are available at eaazpoolworld.com.
03/Do not add algaecides or water clarifiers to your water. These chemicals will remove all
beneficial ions generated by the Solar Pool Ionizer.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often do I clean copper anode?
03 04
You will need to clean the copper anode every week otherwise blue/green build-up
may occur in the basket preventing the minerals from being released in the water
properly. Also, this may cause a tear in the basket.
How much Chlorine will I need to use?
We recommend using a small amount (2 to 3 parts per million) of sanitizer to keep
your pool microbe-free. You may still use small quantities of chlorine, bromine, or a
non-chlorine sanitizer. It’s the large expensive quantities of chlorine that you no longer
need to keep your pool crystal clear.
Will the unit work if my pool is covered?
If the panel on the unit does not get direct sunlight it will not work properly. You can
gently tether the unit to an area in the pool where the cover is lifted or cut a small hole
in the cover for the unit to be placed in the pool.
How long does the unit need to be in the sun?
The Solar Ionizer needs at least 4-5 hours of sunlight. (Please note that you will need
to have the unit in the water when it is in the sun, or this may damage the unit). If your
Ionizer is NOT in the sun, it will not work. Therefore, you may need to tether it with a
piece of string (just wrapped around the basket) in a sunny place in your pool.
Can I use a metal screw if I misplace or break
the nylon screw that came with the unit?
No. A metal screw will interfere with the ionization process and will “fuse” into the
copper. It must be non-metallic.
Please go to www.eaazpoolworld.com to purchase a replacement or contact customer
support.
How do I clean the anode and basket?
Remove the unit from the pool, inspect for any damages on the panel and around the
unit.
Flip the unit over onto a soft surface such as grass (you may want to have a trash
bag underneath the unit) and gently remove the nylon screw and basket from the
anode. Remove the anode from the unit and give it a little scrub with the wire brush
provided. HINT: Easier to clean when wet. When dry, dusty mineralized residue can
be irritating.
Do I need to check the copper ion level?
We recommend testing the copper level weekly and to maintain a level in the range of
0.2 ppm - 0.5 ppm. If you find that your copper level has gone above 0.5 ppm,
remove the device from the water.
Note: Do not allow copper content of the water to go above 1 ppm at any time. High
copper level can tinge the water green and copper can begin to precipitate on solid
surfaces.
How do I check the copper ion level?
Using a copper test strip, please dip the strip into your pool water and remove it
immediately. Then hold the strip level, not shaking the excess water off the strip. After
15 seconds, please compare the pad of the strip to the color chart on the test strip
bottle.
Note: The test strips are not as effective at testing LOW levels of copper ions as they
are at testing for HIGH levels of copper ions. Testing for high levels is what is
important. If over 0.5 ppm, you should remove the ionizer for a week or until the
levels are lower. While it may be difficult to determine the low-level copper readings, if
the copper anode is corroding, ions are being created. Low level of 0.1 ppm is usually
sufficient to prevent algae growth.

TROUBLESHOOTING
I DON’T THINK IT’S WORKING
Experiencing any issues with a bright purple stain in and around your pool, or the Solar
Ionizer itself, is a result of a reaction with cyanuric acid. EaazPool’s Solar Ionizer is
designed to be used without other chemicals. Cyanuric Acid is typically used in pools as a
stabilizer in chlorine tabs or other chlorine products. Noticing any significant staining other
than simply around the ionizer itself, we advise removing the Solar Ionizer until the levels of
Cyanuric Acid are reduced. This can be accomplished by draining water from your pool and
replacing it with fresh water. The Solar Ionizer is designed to be used without any other
chemicals and the copper within the ionizer is reacting to the cyanuric acid causing a purple
stain. The stain itself should dissipate but could take several weeks after staining the
plaster of the pool.
Firstly, fill a clear glass or plastic quart-sized jar (or equivalent) with water.
Second, place the solar ionizer on the top of the jar resting on the lip. Making sure the
entire copper anode and basket are submerged in the water. See the image below.
Third, place the solar ionizer on the top of the jar, resting on the lip, with the electrodes
immersed in water (making sure to press the coil into contact with the 3 dots on the
bottom side of the panel with your hand continuously).
With a full sun shining on the solar panel, fine bubbles will be observed after a few
seconds originating from the spring coils. This demonstrates that an electrical current is
being generated. Any absence of these bubbles indicates a problem.
I SEE PURPLE STAINS!
You will see a blue/green mineral build-up on the copper anode within 5 – 7 days, indicat-
ing the unit is functioning. This is totally normal and a good sign that the Ionizer is working
and functioning normally.
I SEE A BLUE/GREEN BUILD-UP ON THE COPPER ANODE
Following the steps above, after confirming it is functioning normally, but your pool turns
green, proceed trying to position your ionizer to a more consistently sunny area of the pool.
If you have had a large amount of heavy rain or several overcast days, this may have
caused the water to become imbalanced because the unit had no sunlight to be able to
ionize the minerals properly.
Simply shock your pool, run your filter a little longer than you normally would, and let the
water balance itself. If you add too many chemicals this may make the situation worse. In
addition, you can continue using the Solar Ionizer during this process, correcting any issues
with the water turning green during usage.
If this does not effectively correct your issue, then it will be necessary to add an additional
Solar Ionizer to maintain your pool under the conditions present. (It happens quite frequent-
ly that customers buy only one when they really need two.)
If you have had plenty of sun and the anode is not scaling, please contact customer
support.

WHAT DO I DO MY POOL IS CLOUDY?
Run your filter a little longer than normal for your pool and add a little extra chlorine if
necessary.
It is advised to clean your Solar Ionizer outside, while the copper anode is wet. Carefully
unscrew the thumbscrew and proceed to remove the basket. Then brush the coils and
anode with the wire brush provided. (It is not necessary to be perfectly clean) Afterward,
replace the basket and screw in the thumbscrew.
PLEASE NOTE: Algaecides, conditioners, clarifies, etc., are unnecessary. Higher
chlorine levels may be required with an increase in water temperature, increased
swimmer load, rainfall, or new water added. If using liquid chlorine, add at or after
sundown because the sun's rays quickly neutralize chlorine. The recommended
levels are not absolute and may vary with changing water conditions. What works
best for your pool is determined by experience. Allow your water to seek its own
balance. Do not arbitrarily alter the pH, apply large doses of chlorine
(AKA 'Shock'), add algaecide, add conditioner,or try to change
perfectly clear water.
BEST WAY TO CLEAN
07 08
The pH range may now be expanded from 7.2 - 7.8 ppm. The EaazPool Solar Ionizer
works well at higher pH values, so do not arbitrarily attempt to adjust the pH if it is within
this recommended range. Keep in mind that the general idea is to use your Solar Pool
Ionizer just enough to maintain an adequate ion level, and to determine how little chlorine is
necessary to keep the water clear. Allow the water to settle down and seek its own
balanced condition.
I DON’T THINK IT’S WORKING
The occurrence of algae in any shady spot (for example black algae on the pool’s plaster
surface), usually near steps or the deep end of the pool, is caused by how the water is
filtered and will need to be spot treated with a powdered chlorine. Allow the spots time to
dissipate while continuing the use of the Solar Ionizer.
