DESCRIPTION
The SRAM PC104 Battery Backed Memory Card is a
device that can emulate a floppy disk drive or expand
RAM capacity. Two versions are available. One
version requires an ISA adapter in order to fit into a
standard PC ISA slot. The coupling of the adapter card
and memory card will occupy the space of two ISA
slots, even though only one ISA slot is used. The
second version can be connected to the CPU card
using an ISA CPU adapter card. You can install up to
two SRAM PC104 Battery Backed Memory Cards in
one PC.
NOTE: The PC104 board can only be used as a hard
drive emulator with DOS. All other operating systems
support the PC104 board as retentive memory only.

HARDWARE CONFIGURATION
The SRAM PC104 Battery Backed Memory Card
comes with a ROM BIOS chip and three memory chips
installed. These chips allow the memory card to
function as a 5 ¼ - 360K floppy drive.
Since NetSolver uses the SRAM PC104 Battery
Backed Memory Card as a raw memory source, the
ROM BIOS chip must be removed.

The following information describes how to configure
the memory card for use within a NetSolver
application.
Memory Type
Even though the SRAM PC 104 Battery Backed
Memory Card supports SRAM, EPROM and FLASH
memory chips, the retentive memory driver only uses
SRAM.
Each memory card has six 32-pin sockets to house the
memory chips. The sockets are divided into two banks
(three sockets each). Bank 0 is controlled by SW1 and
Bank 1 is controlled by SW3. Bank 0 is supplied with
384K memory.
Settings for SW1:
Closed/Open/Closed/Closed – Battery on, SRAM 128k
Settings for SW3:
Open/Closed/Closed/Closed – Battery off, bank
disabled
Memory Address
There are only three possible regions of memory. If all
three regions conflict with other hardware, the memory
card cannot be used, and as a result, the retentive
memory driver cannot be used. The NetSolver
standard address is 0xD0000 – 0xD3FFF. This
address is also the default setting for the SRAM
PC104 Battery Backed Memory Card. Setting the
memory address id is done using SW2 positions 1 and
2.
Settings for SW2 (positions 1 & 2):
Closed/Open D0000-D3FFF
I/O Address
I/O address selection is done using SW2 positions 3
and 4. Four possible I/O addresses are available. If all
four addresses conflict with other I/O in the computer,
the retentive memory driver may not be used. The
NetSolver standard address is 2DC – 2DD.
Note that the SW2 positions 5 and 6 are unused by the
retentive memory driver.
Settings for SW2 (positions 3 & 4):
Open/Open 2DC-2DD
Board Level Jumpers
There are eight JP jumpers to configure. The first three
jumpers (JP1, JP2 and JP3) have three posts and the
remainder have two posts.
•JP1 and JP2 are used for FLASH memory and
must be turned off (jumper posts 2 & 3).

•JP3 is used for battery selection. To use the
internal battery (recommended), jumper posts 1 &
2. The on-board LED will signal when battery
voltage is below 2.6 V. If the internal battery runs
down, an external battery must be installed. To use
an external battery, jumper posts 2 & 3.JP6 is the
Master/Slave selection and must be shorted. The
card default is Master. If two memory cards are
installed, set jumper JP6 to the Slave position on
the second card.
•JP4 and JP5 are not used by NetSolver and
should be left at the factory defaults.
•JP7 is for write protection of both memory banks.
The default setting is Protect disabled.
•JP8 provides a connection for an external battery.
SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION
To configure the software for the SRAM PC104 Battery
Backed Memory Card, please see the application note
for the retentive memory driver.
INSTALLATION
If you have a Cutler Hammer model D72XPY, D73XPY
or D74XPY, where Y is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7, you have a
CPU card that allows the SRAM PC104 Battery
Backed Memory Card to be connected to it without
using an ISA CPU adapter card. The CPU card can be
found in slot 1 of your computer. The instructions
below outline how to install the SRAM PC104 Battery
Backed Memory Card directly to a CPU card.
1. Ground yourself to avoid static discharge. Use an
ESD strap to avoid permanent damage to
integrated circuits.
2. Remove the CPU card from your unit.
3. Attach the video extension cable to the CPU card.
4. Install stake pins on the memory side of the SRAM
PC104 Battery Backed Memory Card.
5. With the memory side of the SRAM PC104 Battery
Backed Memory Card facing the CPU card, mount
the memory card to the CPU card.
6. Fasten screws to the standoffs (using Loctite small
screw thread locker #222) to secure both cards
together.
7. Attach stake pin protector over the stake pins.
8. Reinstall the CPU card.
