The purpose of this manual is twofold; one, to provide the installer with the basic directions
and recommendations for the proper installation and adjustment of the water heater, and two,
to the owner operator, to explain the features, operation, safety precautions, maintenance and
troubleshooting of the water heater. This manual also includes a parts list.
It is imperative that all persons who are expected to install, operate, or adjust this water heater
read the instructions carefully so they may understand how to perform these functions. If you do
not understand these instructions or any terms within, seek professional advice.

Be sure to read and understand the entire Use and Care Manual before attempting to install or operate
this water heater. It may save you time and money. Pay particular attention to the Safety Instructions.
Failure to follow these warnings could result in serious bodily injury or death. Should you have problems
understanding the instructions in this manual, or have any questions, STOP, and get help from a qualified
service technician, or the local gas utility.
DANGER!
PROPERLY INSTALL WATER HEATER
Failure to properly install the water heater outdoors as outlined in the Installation
Instructions in this manual can result in unsafe operation of the water heater. To
avoid the risk of fire, explosion, or asphyxiation from carbon monoxide, never
operate this water heater unless it is installed properly and has an adequate
air supply for proper operation. Be sure to inspect the flue terminal for proper
installation at initial start-up; and at least annually thereafter. Refer to the Care
and Cleaning section of this manual for more information regarding flue terminal
inspection.
WARNING!
Gasoline, as well as other flammable materials and liquids (adhesives, solvents,
paint thinners etc.) and the vapors they produce are extremely dangerous. DO NOT
handle, use or store gasoline or other flammable or combustible materials any
where near or in the vicinity of a water heater or any other appliance. Be sure to
read and follow the labels on the water heater, as well as the warnings printed in
this manual. Failure to do so can result in property damage, bodily injury or death.

Installation:
Do not Install water heater where flammable products will be stored or used unless the
main burner flame Is at least 18” above the floor. This will reduce, but not eliminate, the
risk of vapors being ignited by the main burner flame.
Read and follow water heater warnings and Instructions. If owners manual is missing,
contact the retailer or manufacturer.

LP has an odorant added to aid in the detecting a gas leak. Some people may
not physically be able to smell or recognize this odorant. If you are unsure or
unfamiliar with the smell of LP, ask the gas supplier. Other conditions such as
“odorant fade”, which causes the odorant to diminish in intensity, can also hide
or camouflage a gas leak.
DANGER!
LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM MODELS
• Water heaters utilizing LP gas are different from natural gas models. A gas
water heater will not function safely on LP gas and vice versa
• No attempt should ever be made to convert the water heater from LP gas. To
avoid possible equipment damage, personal injury, or fire, do not connect the
water heater to a fuel type not in accordance with the data plate.
• LP gas must be used with great caution. It is heavier than air and will collect
first in lower areas making it hard to detect at nose level.
• Before attempting to light the water heater, make sure to look and smell
for gas leaks. Use a soapy solution to check all gas fittings and connections.
Bubbling at a connection indicates a leak that must be corrected. When smelling
to detect a gas leak, be sure to sniff near the floor also.
• Gas detectors are recommended in LP and NG applications and their
installation should be in accordance with the detector manufacturer’s
recommendations and/or local laws, rules, regulations or customs.
1. The exhaust gas and top of the unit is HOT! Do not place hands or any foreign
object near the top of the heater.
2. This heater is not to be used in wind speeds above 10kph. The heater will
extinguish when used in wind speed above 10kph. This feature is governed by the
safety featured fitted to the appliance.
3. If the smell of gas is detected, turn off the gas valve at the tank immediately!
Do not use flame for leak detection.

The Eccotemp CEI-12 is a LPG fired water heater capable of delivering 2 to 2.65 gallons (up to 12
liters) of hot water almost anywhere. The unit has standard 1/2“NPT (BSP for European models)
pipe fittings.
The CEI-12 is not a toy. People around the world use similar units to heat the water in their homes,
safely, and reliably.
You may also plumb it in to existing water lines and using an appropriate LP gas regulator,
EN16129. Check local codes for proper installation.
Ignition is automatic and powered by 2 “D” cell batteries. Burners come on when water flows, and
off when the water is shut off. No pilot light!

Getting Started
1. Check box for damage. Damages caused in shipment must be reported immediately.
2. Make sure you have all the parts:
a. Water heater
b. Hardware pack
3. For European models, attached your water source hose to the far right connection. Use Pipe tape
or other approved sealing method on the threads for a secure, water tight fit. Check to make sure
the screen inside the water inlet is in place and clean. Then attach your water input.
4. Install gas supply line and regulator to the unit. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. OVER TIGHTENING MAY
CRACK THE GAS REGULATOR CAUSING A GAS LEAK! Check for any gas smell before ignition! Make
sure it is screwed all the way on. For European models, ensure that the black rubber washer is
securely in the gas input connection.
5. Attach your water output apparatus to the fitting marked “Water Outlet”. Do not over tighten! If
installing in an existing water system, connect the hot water line directly to the ½” BSP fitting.
6. Install two “D” cell batteries in the compartment on the bottom left of the heater. Check that
batteries are facing the correct direction.
7. Use the top tab on the unit to suspend from a screw adequate to holding 30 pounds/13 KG. Place
at a comfortable height without putting stress on the gas hose. If the unit is to be permanently
mounted, use screws to attach the bottom tab firmly.
8. This unit requires venting for safe removal of exhaust gas.
9. Vent pipe (not included) must be installed according to local codes and follow vent manufactures
instructions and specifications. Professional venting insulation recommended.
10. Insure that there is no blockage of vent pipe or termination.
Before going to the USE section:
Check around area for flammables, especially gasoline or other vapors which may ignite. The
exhaust and top of the unit will get HOT! Make sure there are no foreign objects around the unit or
have fallen into the top.

1. Turn on incoming water supply. Ensure that you have adequate water pressure
of 0.25-10 (pw)(bar).
2. Turn your water output device to its “off” position.
3. Check and verify gas is turned on and there are no leaks.
4. IF THE SMELL OF GAS IS DETECTED, TURN OFF THE GAS VALVE IMMEDIATELY!!
5. Set the water regulator knob on the face of the unit to its highest setting.
6. Set the gas regulator knob on the face of the unit to its minimum setting.
7. Turn on your water output device to the “on” position and adjust to the desired
water flow.
8. There will be a series of audible clicks and the burner will ignite. (Should
the burner not ignite after 5 seconds, shut off and go to the “Trouble Shooting”
section.
9. Upon completion of use or storage, open the drain valve (ribbed cylindrical
stem next to the water input valve) to ensure draining of water.
10. Turn off your gas supply.
11. WARNING: If the outside temperature is around or below freezing (32 degrees
F, 0 degrees C), ensure that the drain valve is opened and water drained from
the unit after each use to avoid internal damage to the water regulator. You will
also need to unhook the outgoing water line to ensure that any water in the heat
exchanger is drained. Failure to properly drain your unit will cause water damage
which may or may not be reparable. Please check the warranty information
found on our website at www.eccotemp.com/freeze for more information on
freezing issues.

Installation Instructions
The water heater must be installed by a professional that holds an AUTHORIZED GAS INSTALLER
PERMIT. The smooth operation of your Eccotemp CEI-12 water heater depends largely on it being
installed CORRECTLY.
This task will be easier if you follow the guidelines below:
1. MODEL, PREMISES AND LOCATION.
1.1. Pay particular attention to ensure the chosen water heater is suitable:
- To satisfactorily cover the facility’s hot water needs.
- For the intended gas (see water heater data plate).
- In relation to the water pressure in the network necessary for it to work, please see specification
table below.
1.2. Ensure that the facility’s premises meets all the conditions required by the
Regulations.
1.3. Position the water heater as near to the hot water tap as possible, near the sink but NEVER
above the cooker. It should also be placed as near as possible to the flue or the point where the pipe
that disposes of burnt gases comes out.
2. PIPES.
2.1. Make the hot water pipes as short as possible. Isolate long sections to avoid heat loss.
2.2. Leave the ends of the cold water (F) and hot water (C) pipes as shown in the diagram. Avoid
unnecessary bends and bottlenecks. We recommend using a minimum diameter of piping of ½” and
¾” in the case of low water pressure. Make sure air pockets are unable to form in the hot water
conduit. Flush water pipes.

2.4. Insert a suitable gas stopcock (not included) in the gas supply line as near as possible to the
water heater.
2.4.1. The gas connection pipes must have the following diameters: 15 mm
2.5. Water heater water connections.
2.5.1. All connections shown are carried out with R 1/2” screw.
2.5.2. Make sure the joints are tightened properly. Use pipe compound to avoid gas leaking.

-The fastening elements are in the bag of accessories included in the water heater packaging (wall plugs
for fixing upper and lower fixing screws)
- Hang the water heater on hooks and tighten the screws to attach it to the wall.
- Connect the flexible hot and cold water lines without forgetting to check for leaks. Do not remove
the filter screen at the cold water inlet in order to avoid circulation problems.
3. Positioning
- For correct operation of the heater, install it in a vertical position.
- Use the mounting template included in the package.

Mounting the Water Heater
Make sure the location of the appliance allows for easy access and
operation.
In case of dry wall or concrete wall use dry wall anchors or lag bolts.
Have a receptacle with ground terminal near the water heater. The
length of the power supply cord is 1524 millimeters.
Drill the holes as per the sizes in the figure to the left, put 2
expansion screws into the top holes, and 2 rubber screws into the
bottom holes.
Hang up the water heater unit, tighten the expansion screws, and
put 2 wood thread screws into the bottom holes.
CAUTION: Reinforcement of the wall is required in case the
wall is not strong enough to hold the appliance.
Venting
The installation of venting must comply
with national codes, local codes, and the
vent manufacturer’s instructions.
The water heater must be vented
to the indoors as described in these
instructions. DO NOT connect this water
heater to an existing Vent or Chimney,
it must be vented separately from all
other appliances.
Use a vent pipe with an anti-
disconnection structure.
The use of a High Temperature Silicone
(260’ c) may be required to seal vent
connections. To prevent accidental gas
exhaust leakage, apply a 1/4” wide bead
approximately 1/4” from the end and
another bead against the joint side of
the stop bead.
Follow vent manufacturer’s installation
instructions.
The unit can be vented vertically.
Vent pipe runs must be adequately
supported along vertical runs.

DANGER: Failure to install the vent adapter and
properly vent the water heater to the outdoors as outlined
in the Venting section of this manual will result in unsafe
operation of the water heater causing death, serious injury,
explosion, or fire. To avoid the risk of fire, explosion,or
asphyxiation from carbon monoxide, NEVER operate the
water heater unless it is properly vented and has adequate
air supply for proper operation as outlined in the Venting

4. Evacuation of Burnt Gas
4.1. Evacuation of burnt gas pipe.
The burnt gas evacuation pipe must have the following diameters, depending on model:
• CEI-12 can only be attached to the following types combustion product evacuation pipes:
Pipe for fitting the draft diverter on the outside is 1 meter.
Couplings for draft diverters are found at specialist trade stores.
Pipe for fitting the draft diverter is 110 mm.
Recommended fluepipe vertical length is a minimum of 1 meter and maximum of 15 m.
4.2. Ensuring the correct evacuation of combustion gases.
To ensure the system is functioning with the water heater’s nominal power, check the tightness of
the whole combustion gas evacuation system through a spray plate, cooled mirror or any other
approved apparatus,
4.3. Maintenance.
Recommended on an annual basis. This must be carried out by an Official Technical Service.
5. Mounting the Cover
If for any reason you need to remove the cover for installation:
5.1. Remove the gas knob and temperature selector by pulling them out.
5.2. Loosen the screws connecting the cover.
5.3. Assemble the controls by pressing them inwards.
Check and Commissioning
- Ensure that the installation meets on ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE REGULATIONS IN FORCE IN THE
COUNTRY IN WHICH THIS INSTALLED.
- Check the complete sealing of the gas and water circuits.
- Turn on the heater and check its operation for 15 min, teach the user the proper handling and use
of heater and give this instruction manual

6. Control Device for the Evacuation of Gases (T.T.B.)
6.1. The T.T.B. safety element that is fitted to the water heaters ensures that combustion products
are evacuated properly and should, therefore, not be deactivated and uncontrolled interventions
should not be performed on it. In case of disturbances in the evacuation of combustion products the
device interrupts the gas supply to the burner.
6.2. If the T.T.B. device is activated once the water heater is turned on, revise the burnt gas outlet
by checking the evacuation with a cooled mirror with running water, or any other measuring device
approved for this purpose.
6.3. In case of damage, use only original spare parts as the T.T.B. device may not work properly
otherwise.
6.4. The T.T.B. device should be replaced by experts as follows:
- Remove the defective T.T.B. device by loosening the two screws holding it together.
- Remove the thermocouple.
- Insert a new original thermocouple.
- Attach the T.T.B. device to the smoke box without forcing the screws.
- Check it is working properly.
Very Important
In the premises where the water heater is located, do not forget to open the air inlet and, where
appropriate, the air outlet as per the requirements of the GAS Installations Regulations. To maintain
a clean Environment, remember to dispose of used batteries in containers prepared for collecting
these products. Not doing so can potentially create a hazardous situation.

AGAINST LIME
In specific areas with hard water, in order to prevent the deposition of lime that can affect to the
heat transmission, it is recommended to limit the output temperature adjusting it by means of the
temperature selector.
AGAINST ICE
In specific cold areas, to prevent the water heater from being damaged as result of an imminent
freeze:
- Close the water inlet valve to the heater
- Open the lowest hot water tap (e.g. the bidet)
- Open the drain valve in the lower part of the heater, so that water can come out and the air can
enter.
Use a cloth with soapy water to clean the front cover, avoid abrasive detergents and solvents. To
increase the life of your water heater, it should be maintained and cleaned once a year, please call
our Technical Service.
The CEI-12 water heater is equipped for a specific gas type.
Do not attempt to change the gas type. Doing so will void all manufacturer’s warranty.
VERY IMPORTANT: The adjusting screw of minimum
flow, situated in the body of water, which is sealed will not be
manipulated in any way.

The temperature of the outgoing water is dependent on the temperature of the incoming water
balanced with the amount of heat applied. Use extreme caution in setting the outlet water
temperature.
Adjustment
WARNING: THE UNIT IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING
SCALDING WATER TEMPERATURES!
1. With the water regulator set to high, and the gas regulator set to low, feel
the outgoing water. This is the lowest setting available.
2. To initially raise the outgoing temperature, slowly turn the gas valve
towards maximum. Adjust slowly and check the temperature often. There
will be a slight delay between increasing the gas supply and the increase in
water temperature.
3. Should the outlet water temperature need to be higher, slowly reduce the
water flow regulator until desired temperature is reached.
