Bulb Types
This kit includes three bulb types, classied by their general shape.
FESTOON - Conventional incandescent festoon bulbs have a shape and general
appearance that is similar to a glass fuse.
Metal caps attached to both ends of a glass tube are
sealed to the tube and attached to the bulb lament.
End caps mount the bulb in its holder and also
conduct electrical current.
LED festoon lights have the same pointed end caps,
but are attached to a bank of LEDs instead of a
lament tube.
WEDGE - Wedge style bulbs get their name from the
shape of the bulb base. The tapered end of the bulb
“wedges” into the bulb socket.
LED wedge lights t the bulb socket like a lament
bulb, but are polarity sensitive.
BAYONET - The bayonet base is formed by a metal
tube with radial pins on its side that engage holes
or tabs in the bulb socket. A central electrical nub
contact at the tapered base of the bulb connects the
bulb to voltage.
While these are also polarity sensitive, the socket
design automatically orients the bulb, ensuring
correct polarity.
What are LEDs?
LEDs are Light Emitting Diodes, solid state devices that emit light when connected to electrical
current. They have no moving parts or wire laments to burn out. They emit a whiter light, run
cooler, and last longer that the incandescent (lament style bulbs) we are replacing in this
tutorial.
Unlike lament bulbs, LEDs are polarity sensitive. They have plus and minus (positive and
negative) electrical terminals that must match the polarity of the applied voltage. Installing the
bulbs “backwards” in the light bulb sockets (with reversed polarity) will not harm them, but they
will not light. Flipping the bulb 180 degrees in the electrical connector cures this problem.

General Tips
• When prying down on the assemblies to remove them, pry on the notched end of
the lens. Insert the narrow tool tip between the lens plastic and any metal collar
used to reinforce the lens mounting hole. Push in on the retaining clip rst to
compress and release it. Then pry down.
• The spring bulb retainer is also the circuit conductor. If necessary, gently bend
the metal retainer so it holds the bulb tight. This will help prevent intermittent or
ickering LED operation caused by a loose connection.
• Install the bulbs with the LEDs facing toward the lens.

Front Dome - Step 1
Using a trim removal tool, pry down gently on the
edge of the front dome light lens.
Pop the lens cover free and remove it.
Front Dome - Step 2
With the lens removed, pry the old glass festoon
bulbs (arrows) from their holders.

Front Dome - Step 3
Replace the original glass festoon bulbs with 42mm
festoon LED arrays (arrows).
The LED arrays are polarity sensitive. If either does
not work when initially installed and tested, ip it
end-for-end to get it working.
Front Dome - Step 4
With the festoon LEDs installed at the rear of the
dome light console, move forward to the front trim
panel.
Using a non-marring trim removal tool, pry at the
edge of the trim panel, as shown. Pry gently at
several locations along the edge until the panel
drops down.
Front Dome - Step 5
Removing the front cover exposes the two bayonet
base lament bulbs (arrows).
Push the bulbs in slightly and twist to remove them.

Front Dome - Step 8
Front dome light installation completed.
Front Dome - Step 6
Install the front bayonet style LEDs.
This photo (shot from the front of the dome light
console looking toward the rear) shows all four
LEDs installed in the front dome light console.

Snap the front trim piece and lens in place.

Vanity Light - Step 1
The vanity mirror lights are located in the headliner
above the sun visors.
Insert the tip of the trim removal tool at the notched
end of the light. Press in to compress the spring clip
as you pry down.
Pull the light down from the headliner.
Vanity Light - Step 2
Pry the metal heat shield from the back of the light.
Remove the original glass festoon bulb and replace
it with a 36mm festoon LED array. (The LED light
chips should face the lens when installed.)
Vanity Light - Step 3
Reconnect the light and test it. Then replace the
heat shield and reinstall the light in the headliner.
Repeat the process at the opposite side to
complete the vanity light LED installation.

Glove Box
Pry at the notched end of the glove box light to
remove it.
Pry the black plastic heat shield from the back of
the light and replace the original wedge base glass
bulb with a 5-chip wedge base LED.
The LED array is polarity sensitive. If it does not
work when initially installed, ip it 180 degrees in
the bulb holder to get it working.
Reinstall the light assembly in the glove box liner.
Rear Dome - Step 1
Using a non-marring trim removal tool, pry down on
the rear dome light assembly to pop it free.
The next photo shows the location of the spring
clips that hold the light in the headliner.

Trunk
The light assembly in the trunk is identical to the
one in the glove box.
Pry down the assembly and remove the plastic heat
shield. Replace the original wedge base lament
bulb with a 5-chip wedge base LED.
Rotate the LED array 180 degrees in its holder if it
does not light when initially installed and tested.
Replace the light assembly in the trunk liner to
complete the trunk light LED installation.
Rear Dome - Step 2
Note the location of the metal spring clips (arrows).
Press at these locations with the trim tool tip to
compress the clips as you pry down the light.
The rear dome assembly has two bayonet base
bulb holders.
Rear Dome - Step 2
Push slightly and twist the original bayonet bulbs in
their sockets until they pop free.
Remove them and install 5-chip bayonet base LED
arrays in their places.
Reinstall the light assembly in the headliner to
complete the rear dome light LED installation.
