Areas of Application
The device is apt for planing flat or round wood surfaces of all kinds. For planing round
surfaces, we recommend the EDER round planer. The constructive formation of the planing
barrel causes a high chipping performance at minimal effort. The device is set on the folding
plate supported oscillating around the rotary axis of the barrel. The knives fastened on the
rotating peeling barrel are continuously adjustable, by which radius as well as depth of
cutting can be adjusted to the desired chip thickness. On the rectangular peeling barrel
there are, distributed in 2 levels, 4 knives, which generate a smooth surface at the right
adjustment without vibrations. The device may only be used as intended for the listed
operations.
Mounting the Planer to the Chain Saw
The device can be assembled to ordinary power saws from 1.2 kW. The fitting attached
parts for the saws mentioned in the accompanying documents and bills of delivery are
included in delivery. The planing head carrier is to be assembled instead of the chain rail.
While mounting please look at the spare parts list on last page of this document and
compare the part numbers.
For assembly, the chain rail and chain pinion are removed. The chain pinion is replaced by
the coupling barrel with V-belt pulley (1 ). The planing head carrier (01) is fastened instead
of the chain rail in connection with the chain wheel cap. Before fastening the chain wheel
cap, the V-belt has to be laid around the pulley. Now, the planing head (02) is slid onto the
planing head carrier (01). The V-belt (0 ) is laid onto the V-belt pulley (1 ) of the coupling
barrel. Please tense the v-belt (0 ) by moving the head (02) and fastening the tightening
screw (07). Please observe that the v-belt pulley (1 ), the v-belt (0 ) and the coupling barrel
(05) are straigth in line and parallel to the head carrier (01).
I portant: The supply of chain oil ust be prevented by shutting down the oil pu p
or by e ptying the oil tank.

Adjusting the Knives on the EDER Planer
Optimum performance of the planer requires sharp and correctly adjusted knives.
For adjusting, you need the provided Allen key and proceed as follows:
1.Lay the key with the groovings showing at the knife barrel onto the folding plate.
2.Make knife and key touch each other at the spot with the desired cutting depth. In doing
so, the peeling barrel must stand in such a way that the knife maximally sticks out through
the folding plate.
3. Tighten knife in this position.
4.All knives are adjusted the same way.
5.The clamping bolts for the knives are to be tightened at a torque of at least 35 Nm. A
corresponding torque wrench can be obtained from EDER Maschinenbau as optional
accessory or from the specialized tool trade.

6.The knives are to be adjusted in such a way that they maximally stick out 1 mm under the
folding plate.
The less the excess length of the knives, the less wood will be re oved, and the
s oother the surface will get.
Protection fro Accidents
The safe state of the machine is to be checked each time before beginning to work. This
applies, above all, for the condition and the safe fit of the knives and the fixing elements.
The machine may not be used if damage is noted.
If the machine is not used temporarily or transported, the engine is to be shut down, or the
chain brake to be activated, so that unintentional actuation of the planing barrel is avoided.
On actuation and operation it is to be observed that nobody is jeopardized and nobody is
staying within the working area of the planer. Splinters flying around are to be anticipated. A
safety distance of at least 10 m to other persons is to be observed.
The machine is to be held tight with both hands at work and a safe stand is to be ensured at
work.
It is to be operated in such a way that emissions are not inhaled as far as possible. Devices
with a combustion engine may not be used in closed rooms.
For checking the V-belt, subsequent clamping, changing the knives and removing
disturbances, the engine must be shut down.
On fueling the machine, the engine must be shut down, it must not be smoked, and there
must be some distance to open fires.
The machine is to be operated with as little noise and emissions as possible.

Instructions for Maintenance
Operations of maintenance and repair may only be executed by persons who possess the
necessary knowledge and abilities (e. g. professional workshop). Before correcting
disturbances and on interruptions of work, the entire engine is to be shut down and its
standstill is to be awaited. Apt measures are to be taken against erroneous actuation and
involuntary moves (e. g. pull the plug). Foreign substance or material parts may not be
removed from near moving parts. Apt tools are to be used for maintenance and installation.
Only original EDER spare parts are to be used for replacement!
Instructions for the Use of Personal Protective Equip ent
On operating the planer, all regulations and security provisions as for the operation of power
saws are applicable. The service personnel must wear equipment for the protection of the
body, especially including eye and face protection, ear protection, protective gloves and
protective shoes. Leg protection is recommended.
Protective Devices
The machine may only be used with the protective and security devices (e. g. folding plate)
provided for the purpose. Protective and security devices may not be invalidated and must
be cleaned if necessary.
