Why Language Tutor ?
Language Tutor provi es an interactive, au iovisual
experience that is appropriate for a wi e range of
stu ents: struggling stu ents in general e ucation
classrooms an special nee s programs, ELL/ESL learners,
an stu ents who receive speech an language
intervention.
The system uses a multisensory, mo el-an -response strategy
for language acquisition. Stu ents see the target wor s on
the car s, listen to them being spoken on the Teacher
track, an repeat them as many times as nee e ,
progressing in epen ently an at their own pace. When
rea y, stu ents recor themselves speaking the wor s an
compare their speech with the Teacher track, buil ing their
skills an confi ence in a systematic an motivating way.

Before You Begin
If you are using Language Tutor in a classroom setting,
esignate an appropriate space for your Language Tutor
center. To the extent possible, this space shoul provi e
a istraction-free environment for stu ents. We suggest
that stu ents use hea phones equippe with a boom
microphone to eliminate classroom noise an improve the
quality of their recor e speech. Note: Language Tutor
supports the type of hea phones equippe with two
separate jacks.
Getting Started
Stu ents shoul be comfortable using Language Tutor
before they begin working in epen ently. Intro uce the
unit, pointing out an emonstrating the function of the
STUDENT, TEACHER, an RECORD buttons. This gui e
inclu es a brief summary of the unit’s operation. Refer to
the Language Tutor guide included ith the unit for a
more detailed explanation.
Monitoring Student Progress
Storing Student Work
Language Tutor enables you to store an evaluate the au io
recor ings of up to three stu ents at a time for each car .
This important feature enables multiple stu ents to work
on the same skill. This is especially helpful when several
stu ents are having ifficulty with the same car . To review a
stu ent’s work, place the lesson car on the unit, ial that
stu ent’s assigne number, an press the STUDENT button. To
review the work of another stu ent on the same lesson car ,
turn the STUDENT button ial to that stu ent’s assigne
number, an press the STUDENT button.
The Student Progress Record
The Phonics 2 car set enables you to match
the learning task to the nee s of each
stu ent. The Stu ent Progress Recor in this
gui e makes planning an monitoring
stu ent progress simple. Make a copy of the recor for each
stu ent. To assess a stu ent’s knowle ge of the concepts,
a minister a pretest of some or all of the car s. Have the
stu ent i entify the target wor s on each car ; for example,
the stu ent i entifies bread an brush. Note the ate

Place a car on Language Tutor. Then choose one of the
following activities.
Play Teacher Audio
• Press the TEACHER button.
• Listen to the efault teacher au io.
• Stu ent repeats the au io.
• Press, listen, an repeat as many times
as necessary until the stu ent wishes to
recor his or her response.
Record Student Audio
• Turn the STUDENT button ial
to the assigne stu ent number
(1, 2, or 3).
• Press the STUDENT button.
• Press an hol own the
RECORD button.
• Speak into the microphone.
• When finishe recor ing, release
the RECORD button.
• Stu ent compares his or her au io
to teacher au io by pressing
the STUDENT button an then the
TEACHER button.
• Rerecor an compare as many
times as necessary until successful
results are achieve .
