1 General
1.1 Information relating to the installation instructions
Theclassicationofthecontentsisbasedonthelifestagesofthelineardrive(here-
inafter referred to as the “device”). The manufacturer reserves the right to make
changestothetechnicalspecicationsstatedintheseinstallationinstructions.In
detail these can differ from the respective version of the device without the factual
informationbeingfundamentallychangedandwithoutlosingtheirvalidity.Thecur-
rentstatusofthetechnicalspecicationscanberequestedfromthemanufacturerat
anytime.Anyclaimsarisingfromthiscannotbeasserted.Deviationsfromthetext
and pictorial statements are possible and are dependent on the technical develop-
ment, equipment and accessories of the device. The manufacturer shall provide
informationaboutanydifferingdetailsrelatingtospecialversionsbymeansofthe
salesdocumentation.Otherspecicationsshallremainunaffectedbythis.
1.2 Standards and guidelines
Duringconstructionthefundamentalhealthandsafetyrequirementswereap-
plied and provision was made for the appropriate legislation, standards, directi-
vesandguidelines.ThesafetyelementisconrmedbytheDeclarationofIncor-
poration (see section 5 “Declaration of Incorporation”). All information relating
tosafetyintheseinstallationinstructionsreferstothelawsandregulationsthat
arecurrentlyvalidinGermany.Allinformationintheseinstallationinstructions
mustbecompliedwithatalltimesandwithoutlimitation.Inadditiontothesafety
notices and directions in these installation instructions, the regulations appli-
cable at the place of installation with regard to accident prevention, environmen-
talprotectionandoccupationalsafetymustbeobservedandadheredto.The
guidelinesandstandardsforsafetyassessmentcanbefoundintheDeclaration
of Incorporation.
1.3 Intended use
Thedeviceisenvisagedforuseintheconstructionofmachinery.It is used for
movingheavyloads. Othereldsofapplicationmustbeagreedinadvancewith
the manufacturer.
Thedevicemustnotbeusedinareaswherethereisariskofinjurytopersonnel
orinroomsinpotentiallyexplosiveenvironments.

If a direct or indirect hazard to personnel cannot be ruled out, additional meas-
ures (e.g. covers, barriers, etc.) must be taken in order to minimise the potential
riskaccordingly.
Theoperatoraloneisliableforanydamagearisingfromthenon-intendeduse
ofthedevice.Themanufacturerassumesnoliabilityforpersonalinjuryordam-
agetopropertycausedthroughmisuseorproceduralerrors,improperoperator
control or improper start of operation.
Thedevicemustbeoperatedonlybytrainedandauthorizedskilledpersonnel
subjecttocompliancewithallsafetynoticesanddirections.
Safeanderror-freeuseandoperatingsafetyofthedevicecanonlybeguar-
anteed subject to use in compliance the intended use in accordance with the
specicationssetoutintheseinstallationinstructions.
Intendeduseincludesobservationofandadherencetoallthesafetynotices
anddirectionsinstructionsspeciedintheseinstallationinstructions,aswellas
all applicable regulations of trade associations and the valid laws in relation to
environmental protection. Use in compliance with the intended use also includes
adherence to the operating regulations prescribed in these installation instruc-
tions.
1.4 Foreseeable misuse
Anyinstallationintootherequipmentthatdeviatesfromthepurposeclearedby
the manufacture applies as being a foreseeable misuse.
1.5 Warranty and liability
Inprinciple,theGeneralTerms&ConditionsofSaleandDeliveryofthemanu-
facturerapply.TheTerms&ConditionsofSaleandDeliveryareacomponent
part of the sales documentation and are handed over to the plant operator at the
timeofdelivery.Liabilityclaimsforpersonalinjuryanddamagetopropertyare
excluded,iftheyareattributabletooneorseveralofthefollowingcauses:
• Openingofthedevicebythecustomer(breakingtheseal)
• Use not in compliance with the intended use of the device
• Improper installation, start of operation or operator control of the device
• Changes to the design and construction of the device without the written
approval of manufacturer

1.6 Customer service of the manufacturer
Thedevicemayberepairedonlybythemanufacturerintheeventofafault.The
address for sending in the device to the customer service department can be
found on the inside of the back cover.
Ifyouhavenotpurchasedthedevicedirectlyfromelero,pleasecontactthe
manufacturer of the machine or the supplier of the device.
Mechanicallysecurethemachinebeforedismantlingthedevice.
Thedevicemustnotbeseparatedfromthemachinebyforce.
Theserialnumbermustbeathand,ifyourequestcustomerservice.Thiscan
befoundinthetopright-handhalfofthetypeplate.

2.1 General safety notices and directions
Theseinstallationinstructionscontainallthesafetynoticesanddirectionsthat
must be observed in order to avoid and prevent dangers when working with the
deviceintheindividuallifecycles.Safeuseofthedeviceisguaranteedwhenall
thespeciedsafetynoticesanddirectionsarecompliedwith.
2.1.1 Formulation of the safety notices and directions
Thesafetynoticesanddirectionsinthisdocumentaremarkedwithsafetysym-
bolsandformulatedinaccordancewiththeSAFEprinciple.Theycontainspeci-
cationsrelatingtothetypeandsourceofdanger,thepossibleconsequences,
as well as the prevention of the danger.
Thefollowingtabledenestherepresentationanddescriptionofthelevelsof
dangerwithpossiblephysicalinjury,asusedintheseinstallationinstructions.

2.2 Safety principles
Thedeviceisbuiltaccordingtostate-of-the-arttechnologyandthegenerally
acceptedrulesofsafetyanditissafetooperate.Thebasicsafetyandhealth
requirements of the applicable laws, standards, directives and guidelines have
beenappliedintheconstructionofthedevice.Thesafetyofthedeviceiscon-
rmedbytheDeclarationofIncorporation.
Allspecicationspertainingtosafetyrelatetothecurrentlyvalidregulationsof
theEuropeanUnion.Inothercountriesitmustbeensuredbytheplantoperator
that the applicable laws and national regulations are complied with.
Inadditiontothesafetynoticesanddirectionsintheseinstallationinstructions,
thegenerallyapplicableregulationsregardingaccidentpreventionandenviron-
mental protection must be observed and complied with.
Thedevicemustonlybeusedwheninperfectworkingorder,foritsintended
use,andincompliancewiththesafetynoticesanddirectionsintheseinstalla-
tion instructions. The device is designed for the application in accordance with
the section “Intended use”. In the event of use that is not in compliance with
theintendeduse,injurytothelifeandlimboftheuserorthirdpartiesorimpair-
mentstothedeviceandotherpropertycanarise.Anyaccidentsoralmostac-
cidents during the use of the device that lead to or could have led to personal
injuriesand/ordamageintheworkingenvironmentmustbereporteddirectly
andwithoutdelaytothemanufacturer.
Allsafetynoticesanddirectionsspeciedintheinstallationinstructionsandon
thedevicemustbeadheredto.Inadditiontothesesafetynoticesanddirec-
tions, the operator must ensure that all national and international regulations
applicableintherespectivecountryofuse,aswellasotherbindingregulations
relatingtooperationalsafety,accidentpreventionandenvironmentalprotection
arecompliedwith.Allworkonthedevicemustbeperformedonlybytrained,
safetyinstructedandauthorizedpersonnel.

2.3 General duties of the plant operator
❏Theplantoperatorisobligatedtousethedeviceonlyinperfectandopera-
tionallysafecondition.Hemustensurethat,inadditiontothesafetynotices
anddirectionsintheinstallationinstructions,thegenerallyacceptedsafety
andaccidentpreventionregulations,thespecicationsofDINVDE0100
and the provisions relating to environmental protection of the respective
countryofuse,areheededandcompliedwith.
❏The plant operator is responsible that all work with the device is performed
onlybytrained,safetyinstructedandauthorizedpersonnel.
❏Ultimatelyresponsibleforaccident-freeoperationistheplantoperatorofthe
deviceorthepersonnelauthorizedbytheplantoperator.
❏Theplantoperatorisresponsibleforcompliancewiththetechnicalspeci-
cations, in particular for compliance with the static loads.
Non-compliance with the static loads may cause loss of the support or
holding function.
2.4 Requirements of the personnel
❏Each person who is charged with performing work on the device must have
read and understood the complete operating instructions before he per-
forms the corresponding work. This also applies, if the relevant person has
previouslyworkedwithsuchadeviceorwastrainedtodoso.
❏Allworkonthedevicemustbeperformedonlybytrained,safetyinstructed
and authorized personnel. Prior to the commencement of all activities the
personnel must have been made familiar with the dangers that exist while
handling the device.
❏Allpersonnelmayperformonlyworkthatisinaccordancewiththeirquali-
cations.Theareasofresponsibilityoftherespectivepersonnelmustbe
clearlydened.
❏Anypersonnelchargedwithworkingwiththedevicemusthavenophysi-
callimitationsthattemporarilyorpermanentlyrestricttheirattentivenessor
judgement (e.g. due to overtiredness).
❏Minorsorpersonswhoareundertheinuenceofalcohol,drugsormedica-
tionareprohibitedfromworkingwiththedevice,aswellasperformingany
installation, dismantling or cleaning work.
❏Personnel must wear suitable personal protective personal protective equip-
ment appropriate to the work incurred and prevailing working environments.

2.5 Safety notices and directions relating to the technical condi-
tion
❏The device must be checked before installation for damage and proper
condition.
❏Theplantoperatorisobligatedtooperatethedeviceonlyinperfectand
operationallysafecondition.Thetechnicalconditionmustcomplywiththe
legal requirements at all times.
❏If dangers to personnel or changes in operating behaviour are recognized,
thedevicemustbeshutdownimmediatelyandtheincidentreportedtoyour
superiors or to the plant operator.
❏Thedevicemayonlybeconnectedtotheenergysupplyintendedandde-
signedforthispurpose.Pleaserefertothetypeplateforthepermissible
typeofvoltageandoperatingvoltage.
❏Nochanges,attachmentsorconversionsmaybeperformedonthedevice
without the authorization of the manufacturer.
❏If wear is detected on the trapezoidal or ball screw spindle or on the spindle
nut, the device must be brought to the manufacturer for maintenance.
2.6 Safety notices and directions relating to transport, assembly,
installation
Therelevanttransportcompanyisfundamentallyresponsibleforthetransport
ofthedevice.Thefollowingsafetyrequirementsmustbecompliedwithduring
transport, erection and installation of the device.
❏During transport the device has to be secured in accordance with the regu-
lationsoftheauxiliarytransportmeansbeingused.
❏Fortransportonlyhoistandslingsmaybeusedthataredimensionedso
thattheycansafelybeartheforcesthatoccurduringloading,unloadingand
installation of the device.
❏Onlythepointsdenedonthepalletanddeviceareallowedtobeusedas
lifting and hoisting points:
❏If work is required on lifted parts or work devices, these must be secured
againstfallingbymeansofsuitabledevices.Workequipmentforthelifting
ofloadsmustpreventloadsfromshiftingunintentionally,fallingunhindered
andunhookingunintentionally.
❏Standing under suspended loads is prohibited.
❏A hard hat must be worn during loading work with hoists.
❏Theerectionandinstallationworkmaybeperformedfundamentallyonlyby
trained and instructed skilled personnel.

2.7 Safety instructions relating to operation
❏The operator of the device is obligated to ensure the safe and proper state
of the device before the initial start of operation.
❏Thisisalsonecessaryduringoperationofthedeviceatregularintervalsto
bedeterminedbytheplantoperator.
❏In the event of a fault, misuse and/or if control components are not con-
nectedcorrectly,thiscancausethesupportingandretainingfunctionofthe
device to be impaired.
❏No radial and/or torsional forces must be allowed to act on the device.
2.8 Safety notices and directions relating to the electrical instal-
lation
❏Allworkontheelectricalsystemmustbeperformedonlybyauthorized
skilled electricians in accordance with the applicable rules and stipulations
of the trade association, in particular the stipulations of DIN VDE 0100.
Furthermore,thenationalstatutoryregulationsoftherespectivecountryof
use must be observed.
❏Intheeventofanydefects,suchaslooseconnectionsordefectiveorda-
maged cables, the device must not be put into operation.
❏In the event of faults with the electrical equipment, the device must be
switchedoffimmediately.
❏Thedevicemustbeswitchedofftode-energizedbeforeanyinspection,
installation or dismantling work.
❏The device must not be hosed down with a high-pressure cleaner or steam
jet.
The following must be checked before connecting the device to the power sup-
ply:
❏Areallelectricalconnections,safetydevices,fuses,etc.properlyinstalled,
connected and earthed?
❏Isthepowerconnectionprovidedinaccordancewiththespecicationsin

3.3.2 Information relating to the self-locking facility

Withthedevicesitisdifferentiatedbetweendynamicandstaticself-locking.Dy-
namic self-locking arises from movement and static self-locking when the device
isatastandstill.Theselflockingfacilityonthedevicesisdependentonvarious

Thedevicewasmanufacturedwiththecircuitdiagramorderedbyyou.The
designation can be found in the sales documentation or the circuit diagram enc-
losedwiththedelivery.
Indeliverycondition(factorysetting),theconnectingrodisalreadyslightly
extended. Please refer to the sales documents for the minimum and maximum
dimensions.
4.1 Mechanical fastening
CAUTION
Damage to the device due to torsional forces.
• Notorsionalforcesmaybeallowedtoactonthedevice.
CAUTION
Damage to the electrical leads due to crushing or a tensile load.
• Allelectricalleadshavetobelaidsothattheyarenotexposedtoanycrus-
hing or tensile loads.
Fastenthedeviceonlybythefasteningelementsprovidedforthispurpose.
These are located at the end of the housing and on the piston rod.

4.2 Electrical connection

• Takenotethatthemotor,controlsystemandoptionscanhavedifferentcon-
nection voltages.

Damage to the device due to mishandling.
• Operation is not permitted without connecting the limit switches to the control
system.Evaluationforthelimitswitchesmustbeguaranteedatalltimes.
• Forthedeviceversionwithoutlimitswitches,theoperatingcompanymust
ensure that the permissible stroke distance is not exceeded.
CAUTION

4.3 Optional attachments
Theoptionalbrake,potentiometerandrotarypulseencodercannotbecom-
bined with one another nor with internal mechanical limit switches.
When using one of these options, the limit stop of the device must be effected
bycustomer-provided,externallyinstalledlimitswitchesorothersuitable
measures,makingallowanceforthepermissiblemovementrange.Theyarenot
includedinthescopeofdeliveryofelero.
4.3.1 Optional brake
CAUTION
Damage to the device due to incorrect connection of the brake.
• Operatethedeviceonlywhenthebrakeisreleased.
• Do not tap the brake voltage parallel to the motor.
Withtheintegratedbrakeyoucandeceleratethestrokemovementofthecon-
nectingrodfasterandoptimizethestaticsafety.
To release the brake, connect the brake coil with conductor codes X1 and X2 to
theratedvoltageofthebrakeinaccordancewiththetypeplate.

Damage to the device as a result of overstepping of power of the potentiometer.
• The potentiometer can be loaded to max. 0.5 W.
• The maximum contact current is 35 mA.

current position of the piston rod.
