1.0 General Characteristics
1.1 MODEM COMMUNICATOR STM200
• The Modem – Communicator card “STM200” is the interface between the “MP200” (the alarm or Central Bus
system) and the telephone network for communications in either modem, numeric or voice mode (the latter is
available only if the voice synthesis card “SV108” is also present). The calls are made between the system (Central
Bus) and the following: remote surveillance centers; remote management centers; private telephones
.
• The card can manage both a direct PSTN line (public standard telephone number) and a derivate line from a
PABX (private automatic branch exchange). The telephone line can be used exclusively by the MP200 or even
shared by other secondary devices such as telephone handsets, faxes and answering machines. However, it is
advisable to limit as much as possible, or to avoid, the sharing of the line with other secondary devices.
• You can switch between pulse dialing and tone dialing (DTMF) for the outgoing calls.
• The incoming calls (only in modem mode) are recognized by a programmable ring-counter. The timing and
frequency of the rings are calculated by the system in order to recognize a real incoming call.
• The modem and numeric transmissions are in DTMF and FSK V22 modes.
• The card is a direct connection PLUG-IN type (plug’n’play), and the communications with the Central Bus
occurs through a parallel BUS .
• The presence of the STM200 card is indispensible in the case that the remote management center uses the
dedicated software, i.e. “fast link”, to remote program and remote manage by modem.
1.2 VOICE SYNTHESIS SV108 & KV100
• The Voice Synthesis card “SV108” is complementary to the Modem – Communicator and must be used in the case
of the pre-programming of telephone numbers over which a voice message has to be transmitted. The SV108 card
allows the user to record and retain 10 voice messages in its E-Eprom. They are a basic message, a test message
and 8 specific messages for the events that are handled by the MP 200 system.
• The procedure to record and to listen to also requires the extra kit “KV100” as described further on in this manual,
in paragraph “6.0 Functions & Programming”.
• The information contained in the memory of the SV 108 is retained even in the case of a power failure.

2.0 Installation
towards other secondary phone-sets
2.1 MODEM COMMUNICATOR STM200
• The Modem – Communicator STM 200 can be installed while the MP200 system is being setup or at a later date,
as an upgrade. (If installed after the MP 200 is already put into service, remember to detatch the electricity feeding
the mainboard while working on the system!!!) In any event, all work on the connections and subcomponents of the
system MUST always be done in the absence of electricity on the MP200 Central Bus.
• The STM200 is connected to the MP200 mainboard bus by 2 female 8 x 3 pin-strip connectors and 3 spacers, all
of which are supplied in the kit.
• Once installed, connect the telephone line wire pair directly to the connecting terminals, LA and LB. There is no
need to worry about the polarity of the wires. On the other hand, the incoming telephone wires should be
handled with care since an electrical tension supplied by the phone company might be present online.
• If secondary handsets, faxes or answering machines are present, they must be connected on the signal out side
(connectors PA & PB) of the STM200. These connections must be made according to current standards.
• In case the telephone line is occupied by the STM200 card, a relay excludes the access of other secondary units
to the line thus limiting access to it only by the MP200 system.
• Once all of the necessary connections have been made, power can be restored to the MP200 Central Bus.
NOTE: avoid connecting any kind of telephone equipment between the incoming telephone line and the
connectors labeled LA e LB. The only equipment supported is an extra surge protector for telephone
lines (not supplied with kit). This supplementary and optional surge protector should be used, at the
System Engineer’s / Installer’s discretion, in case the STM200 is used in environments where there
is a real risk of electric discharges on the line. In any event, the STM200 unit leaves the factory
equiped with a surge protector adequate for use under normal circumstances as required by existing
legislation at the time of sale.

• The SV 108 is connected to the MP200 mainboard bus by 2 female 3 x 2 pin-strip connectors and 2 spacers, all
of which are supplied in the kit. Turn off the power to the MP200 before connecting the SV100!
• Once the SV108 has been installed it must be activated from the System Engineer’s / Installer’s menu, see
paragraph “6.4 Activating the Voice Card”. After that procedure, you can proceed by recording the messages
/ listening to the recorded messages (paragraphs 6.5 & 6.6) using the special kit (KV100) which contains a
microphone and a small loudspeaker. No provision is made for the permanent positioning of the microphone/
loudspeaker set (KV100). However, they may be removed once you have finished, to be reused in the future if the
need to change recordings arises.
