The SD124 is a high-performance SDI signal distributor.
An SDI signal is a signal according to the ITU-R 601 standard.
The unit has two separate inputs each of which has four 75 Ωoutputs.
The distributor contains all the equalizing and re-clocking circuits needed to regenerate
SDI signals from coax cable sections of up to 200 meters.
The SD124 comes in a 1U case that can be inserted into a 19” structure using the
ADR1UM1 adapter.
The adapter can hold one or two units placed side by side.
There are no internal settings or pre-settings for the SD124.

2.0 INDICATORS
The following indicators are located on the front of the unit:

-Green POWER LED.
When on it indicates that
the unit is connected to
the correct mains
voltage.
-2 green SDI LEDs.
When on they indicate
the presence of an SDI-
compliant signal on the
SDI IN1 and SDI IN2
inputs.
-2 red FAULT LEDs.
When on they indicate a
fault in the respective
internal circuits and
subsequent malfunction
in one or both sections o
f
the distributor.

3.0 INSTALLATION
Connect the unit to the power supply using the ADM030 mains adapter supplied.
This adapter has a universal 90 to 240 VAC 50/60 Hz input.
1) For low voltage levels (5V DC) the adapter is equipped with a two-pole terminal that
must be plugged into the corresponding IN 5VDC - + port on the back of the SD124.
2) Connect the ADM030 adapter to the mains using the cable supplied.
The green POWER LED must come on.
In some countries, regardless of the mains voltage, the plug on the mains cable must be
replaced in order to comply with local standards. Cable coding is as follows:
-Brown PHASE (Marked with the letter L, may be red)
-Blue NEUTRAL (Marked with the letter N, may be black)
-Yellow/Green EARTH (Marked with the letter E, may be green)
WARNING
The unit must be earthed

3) For connecting the SDI signals we refer to the screen-printed markings for the SDI IN1
input. Follow the same procedure for the signal entering the SDI IN2 input.
3.1 Connect the SDI source to the BNC connector marked SDI IN1 using an RG59B/U
coax cable or equivalent up to a maximum of 150 meters in length.
The green IN1 SDI LED must light up
(The red FAULT LED can stay on during the first minuts of functionning.
This is due to the stabilization time of the output drivers)
3.2 Use a suitable VFM601i Tektronix-type device to test the signal from the BNC
connectors marked SDI OUT 1÷4 and check that the characteristics of the eye pattern,
jitter, amplitude and signal rise and fall times are ITU-R 601-compliant, i.e.:
a) Eye pattern : clearly defined
b) Jitter : less than 500 psec
c) Amplitude : 800mV ± 10%
d) rise and fall times: : between 0.75 and 1.5 ns
Typical SDI waveform
CAUTION
If the eye pattern is not clearly defined or jitter is >500 psec check that:
- The source has a standard SDI signal
- If the coax cable is not an RG59B/U cable, it has the same characteristics
- That the input cable is not more than 200 meters long.

5.0 Notes
This product is guaranteed for 2 years from the date of purchase.
The guarantee does not cover defects caused by incorrect use or
repairs or modifications carried out by third parties.
During the period covered by the guarantee, Elpro will repair defective units free of
charge.
Defective units should be sent CARRIAGE FREE to Elpro’s works in Turin, together with
the relative freight bill.
Elpro will return the repaired units CARRIAGE FORWARD to the addressee.
After the period covered by the guarantee, Elpro will repair defective units on an EX-
WORKS basis at its premises in Turin, and the customer will be liable for the entire cost
of repairs.
