Ifananaloguemodem,anISDN adapteroranEthernet adapterismountedinside theEM260,
thecorresponding cableisalsomounted byElster-Instrometexworks. Thecableisconnected to
theterminalsa(Rx-),b(Rx+), a2(Tx-) and b2(Tx+).InthecaseofaGSMmodem, asuitableGSM
antennaisconnecteddirectlytothe GSMmodule.
When usingaCL0interface,ashielded cablewithtwoleads(e.g.IDno.04250467,2x1,0mm2)
must beconnectedon sitebythecustomerinthefollowingway:

5Parametersoftheinternal serialinterfaceintheEK230
Ifthe EK230isdeliveredtogetherwiththeEM260theEK230´sinternalserialinterfaceaswell as
thecommunicationmoduleintegratedintheEM260areproperlysetbyElster-Instrometexworks.
Ifthe EM260 isdeliveredseparatelyforadditionalinstallationbesideanEK230, theinternalserial
interfaceof theEK230mustbeset inaccordancewiththe softwareversionof theEK230and
withthe typeofcommunicationmoduleintegratedintheEM260.
Forthispurposetheparametersoftware“WinPADS200-EK“canbeused: Menu“Datatransfer”,
item“Sendparameterfile…”. Thenyoucanselecttheparameterfile(*.WPP)whichfitstoyour
application(communicationmodule, versionof EK230).

Ifthereisnolaptop withWinPADSavailableonsite, you canset themost importantvaluesvia
thekeypadoftheEK230 (menu“Ser.IO”). The followingvaluescannotbe setviathekeypad:
SMSandGSMspecificvalues, ISDN MSN, IPaddress, modemparameters.

The parametersforthecommunicationmodule(modem) intheEM260areset exworks foruse
withanEK230.
Ifthe parametershavetobemodifiedon site,thiscan becarriedout withthehelpofthe
parametersoftware“WinPADS200-EK“: Menu„Filetransfer…“, item“Sendparameterfile…”.
Thenyoucanselect theparameterfile(*.WPP)whichfitstoyourapplication(communication
module, versionof EK230).

Beforedisconnecting,thebutton“Init modem“ shouldbe pressed(“Interface–Modem
initialisation“). àafterit isdisconnected, theEK230sendsthe parameterstothe communication
module. Theparametersarealsosent afterswitching on thepowersupplyandafter“M.INI=1”in
EK230´smenu“Ser.IO”.
The parameterisationofthecommunicationmoduledoesnot workwithall EK230versionsand
alsonotwithall typesof communicationmodules.The followingtableshowsthedependences

powersupply) theymust be deleted again!!! Otherwisethe communication modulewillnotpickup any
furtherincoming call!!!
7Replacementofcommunicationmodules
Afaultycommunicationmodulecanbesubstituted byanothercommunicationmoduleofthe
sametypebythe customeron site.It dependsonthesoftwareversionoftheEK230 and onthe
typeof thecommunication moduleif thenewmodulecan beparameterisedon siteorifitmustbe
parameterised byElster-Instrometexworks (refertothe tableinchapter6).
The replacementofacommunication modulebyanothercommunication moduleofadifferent
type(e.g.analoguemodemreplacedbyISDN adapter) can onlybecarried outbyElster-
Instrometexworks orbyElster-Instromet´scustomerservice.

2.ThePEconnectionsinboththeEM260 and theEK230 shouldbeasshortaspossible
and have aswideacross-section aspossible.
3.When assemblingthefront cover,ensurethattheflat-stripcableforconnecting theLEDs
integrated intothe front transparentfilmispluggedintothe4x1pinstripST8!
