Before you begin
Software upgrade
If you bought a software maintenance contract, you are entitled to a software upgrade
that is performed only after the installation, Celerra Startup Assistant (CSA), and
registration have successfully completed.
Site preparation
Complete the site preparation by verifying the following activities before installation:
• Network connections
• Power requirements
• Rack space requirements

Default IP addresses
The system components communicate with each other using a private Internet Protocol
(IP) network. By default, this network uses the IP addresses listed in the “ Internal
system addresses .”
If your existing IP network uses addresses on these subnets, you are required to
change the private network addresses of your Celerra Network Server to different
subnets before the installation.

Network Server software (DART) and CLARiiON®storage array software (FLARE®).

Installation overview steps
Installation steps:
1. You should review and complete the worksheets included in this document,
pages 25-30, and verify that the site is properly prepared for the installation of your
Celerra NX4.
About 20 minutes.
2. If your Celerra NX4 is to be installed in a customer-supplied rack, use this document to
unpack the system from the disposable mini-rack shipping container, and install the system
in your available rack.
About 40 minutes.
Note: If your Celerra NX4 system arrives at your site in a pre-installed cabinet and is
previously cabled, verify the cabling before you begin the use of your system.
Cable your system according to the instructions and illustrations contained in this document.
Ensure that all of your cables are seated securely.
About 45 minutes.
3. When you install your Celerra NX4, use the Celerra Startup Assistant (CSA) to configure
your system. The CSAis on the Celerra Applications & Tools CD. The CSA will help you
to create CIFS shares, NFS exports, and iSCSI LUNs, and to register your Celerra NX4
system.
About 15 minutes.
4. Register your system with the service provider. If you do not register your system now, using
the Celerra Startup Assistant, your request for support from your service provider will be
delayed.
About 5 minutes
Implementation step:
5. After you have registered your Celerra NX4 system, you must configure the system for
production. You can use the Provisioning Wizard in the CSA, one of the several
pre-packaged implementation configurations based on common usages, or your own
implementation using Unisphere software to configure your system. At the end of each
one of these configurations, your system will be ready for production.

If your Celerra NX4 system was purchased and shipped in an EMC 40 unit cabinet of 70 in.,
where 1 unit =1.75 in., start on page 12 of this document and confirm that the cables are
installed correctly and securely.
Otherwise, start unpacking your Celerra NX4 system that is shipped in a disposable mini-rack.

Remove components from shipping container
Caution: Two people are required to remove the components. Only remove the
screws holding the components in place at this time. Do not remove the screws holding
the mini-rack rails in place; this may cause damage to the components. Only remove
one component at a time.

2. Carefully set aside each component as
it is removed (1-4) from the disposable mini-rack
shipping container.
3. The ganged rails remain in the mini-rack
shipping container at this time.
1. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove only
six screws per side.
Keep the screws to install the components in your site rack.

Ganged rail slide
1. Remove the larger-headed screws holding the ganged rails in place. Keep the screws to install the
ganged rails in your rack.
2. Remove the ganged rails. Do not remove the metal mini-rack, it is part of the shipping container. The
components are to be installed into your rack with the smaller-headed screws
3. Insert the ganged rail slides and seat the
rail extensions into the rear channels. With
the larger-headed screws you have kept,
start installing the ganged rails into your
rack.
4. Do not fully tighten
the initial two front
screws that join the
rails to the rack.
This allows some
adjustment space
for the installation
of the components.

Components, latches, and bezels
1. Install the bottom component first
( 1 2 3 4 ). Ensure that each component
is secure before you install the next
component above it.
2. Snap on the bezels.

2. Ensure that each component and all screws are secure as the component is installed;
also install the latches as you install each component.
3. After all of the components and latches are in place, snap on the bezels.

Powering EMCCelerraNX4 system
Power Up procedure for the dual SPS system
Note: Verify that the cabinet circuit breakers are in the ON position. If you are installing the NX4 into an
existing cabinet that contains other components, do not turn off the cabinet circuit breakers. Ensure that
the switches for SPS A and SPS B are turned OFF.
Connect the power cables as follows:
A yellow circle with a number indicates the power cable number.
1. Connect the power cables to the DAEs through .
2. Connect the power supply A on the DPE to SPS A.
3. Connect the power supply B on the DPE to SPS B.
4. Connect SPS A power cable to the right PDP.
5. Connect SPS B power cable to the left PDP.
6. Turn on SPS A and SPS B.
Wait for the storage array to power up. It can take 8 to 10 minutes to power up. The blinking orange
fault LED on the SPS will extinguish and the solid green power LED will turn on when the SPS is
powered up. The blinking green LED on each SP will become solid green LEDs when the SPs
have booted.
7. Connect the blade enclosure to the right and left PDP.
The power LED on the blade enclosure will be lit when the blades have powered up.
8. Connect the Control Station (CS) to the left PDP.
If the system power LED does not light up, take the bezel off of the front of the CS and press the
power button.

Power Up procedure for single SPS system
