.SubjecttothelimitationscontainedinSection10(Limitationof Remedyand
Liability)herein,Sellerwarrantsthat(a)thelicensedfirmwareembodiedintheGoodswill
execute the programming instructions provided by Seller; (b) thattheGoodsmanufacturedby
Seller will befreefrom defects inmaterialsor workmanship undernormal use andcare; and (c)
Serviceswill be performed by trainedpersonnel usingproperequipmentandinstrumentation
fortheparticularServiceprovided. The foregoingwarrantieswill applyuntiltheexpirationof
theapplicablewarranty period. Sensors and detectors are warranted against defective parts
andworkmanship asper Section 7.3. Products purchased by Seller from a third party for resale
to Buyer (
ResaleProducts
) shall carry only the warranty extended by the original manufacturer.
Buyer agrees that Seller has no liability forResaleProductsbeyondmakingareasonable
commercial effortto arrange for procurement and shippingof the Resale Products. IfBuyer
discoversanywarrantydefectsandnotifiesSellerthereofin writingduringtheapplicable
warrantyperiod, Sellershall,atitsoption,(i)correctanyerrorsthatarefoundbySellerin the
firmwareorServices;(ii)repairor replaceFOBpointof manufacturethat portionoftheGoods
foundby Seller tobe defective; or(iii) refund the purchase price ofthedefectiveportionof the
Goods/Services. All replacements or repairs necessitated by inadequate maintenance; normal
wearand usage;unsuitablepowersourcesor environmentalconditions;accident;misuse;
improperinstallation;modification;repair;useofunauthorizedreplacementparts;storage or
handling; orany othercause not thefault ofSeller, are not covered bythis limited warranty and
shall be replaced or repaired at Buyer’s sole expense and Seller shall not be obligated to pay
any costs or charges incurred by Buyer oranyotherparty except as maybeagreedupon in
writinginadvanceby Seller.Allcostsof dismantling,reinstallation,freightandthetimeand
expenses of Seller’s personnel and representatives for site travel and diagnosis under this
limitedwarranty clauseshall be borneby Buyer unlessacceptedin writingby Seller.Goods
repaired and parts replaced by Seller during the warranty period shall be in warranty for the
remainderoftheoriginalwarrantyperiodor90days,whicheverislonger. This limitedwarranty
is theonly warranty madeby Seller and canbe amended only in awriting signed by an
authorized representative of Seller. Thelimited warranty hereinceases tobe effective if Buyer
fails to operate and use the Goods sold hereunder ina safe and reasonable manner and in
accordance with any written instructions from the manufacturers. THE WARRANTIES AND
REMEDIES SET FORTH ABOVE ARE EXCLUSIVE. THERE ARE NO REPRESENTATIONS OR
WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR
PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR ANY OTHER MATTER WITH RESPECT TO ANY OF THE GOODS OR

1.1 Models covered
The Net Safety JB series junction box is a multi-purpose junction box that is used with numerous Net
Safety products. It canbe used asa terminationbox for flamedetectorsor for remotemountinggas
sensors from transmitters. It is available in copper-free Aluminum or 316 StainlessSteel.

2.1 Unpackingandinspection
Carefullyremoveallofthecomponentsfrom the packaging and verify them against the enclosed
packing list. Inspectallcomponentsfor any obviousdamagesuch as broken or loose parts. If youfind
anycomponentsmissingor damaged,notifyyour localNetSafetyrepresentativeorthefactory
immediately.
Recyclingof packagingshould be takeninto considerationanddisposedof inaccordancewithlocaland
nationallegislations/regulations.
2.2 Dimensions
Thefollowingdrawing outlinesthedimensions of the junctionbox. Measurements are ininchesand
millimeters.Asastandard,thejunctionboxisprovidedwithone(1)conduitplug.

2.3 Mounting
Three(3)conduit entrieslocated on thejunctionboxbodyareavailablein½inch–14 NPT,¾inch–14
NPT, or M20 × 1.5 mm thread. The standard offering is ¾ inch NPT, consult your Emerson Process
Management/Net Safety representative for availability of other conduit entry sizes. Connectionof
conduit, cable glands, sensors,ordetectorstotheseconduitentriesshouldbe doneso by useoftools.
A6mm Hex Key isrequired forinstallingor removing conduitentry plugs. Use a 1.5 mm Hex key to
tightenthe lockingHex screwsecuringthe top cover. The junctionbox hasmounting holesfor
installingdirectlyonawallortoapole,withtheaidof a pole mountingkit, as desired.

Failuretofollowtheseinstallationguidelinescouldresultindeathorseriousinjury. Ensure thatonly
qualifiedpersonnelperformtheinstallation.
Electrical shock could cause deathor seriousinjury.
Useextreme caution whenmaking contact with the
leads and terminals.
Do notopen the junctionbox enclosurewhen ina classifiedarea orwhen anexplosive atmosphere may
be presentunless the power tothe sensor hasbeen removed.

equipmentbytouching a groundedmetal surface to preventthegenerationof
aspark.
Installation shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the National Electrical
Code
®(NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70, the Canadian Electrical Code C22.1, or EN60079-14, as applicable.
Theuseofshieldedcable ishighlyrecommended
to protect againstinterferencecaused by extraneous
electrical or electromagnetic ‘noise’. To meet EN/IEC61326 EMC requirements, multi
-conductorbraid
shieldcable isrecommended. Connection ofconduit orcable glands should be done so by useof tools.
Inapplicationswherethewiringisinstalledinconduit,the conduitmustnot beusedforwiringto other
electricalequipment.
Thejunctionboxmay be susceptibletoESD.Referto
Section5 for furtherinformation on proper
handlingofthisequipment.
Thetemperaturerating of the wires connected to the junctionbox must be greater than
212 °F
(100°C).
2.4.1 Device separation distance
The maximum separationdistance betweenthe junction box and the connected device islimitedby
theresistanceof the connected wiring,whichisa functionofthegaugeofthe wirebeing used. Net
Safety recommends that separation must notexceed 2000 feet (610 meters)while using 16AWG (1.31
mm2)wire. The NetSafetyMillennium SC1100 combustible sensor should not be separated morethan
150 feet (46 meters). Referto Section6for wire gauges and resistance values.
2.4.2 Seals
Tofullyavoidanyenvironmentalexposure,theuseofsealsis recommended,especiallyforinstallations
thatuse high
-pressure or steam cleaningdevicesinproximitytothejunctionbox.
Water-proofandexplosion-proof conduitseals are recommended to prevent water accumulation
withintheenclosure.
Seals should be located as close to the device as possible and notmore than18-in. (46cm) away; sealall
conduitswithin18-in. (46 cm). Consult thelocal electrical code forspecific requirements.

Explosionproofinstallationsmay requireanadditionalsealwherethe conduitentersanon-hazardous
area.Ensureconformitywithlocalwiringcodes.
When pouring a seal, use a fiber dam to ensure proper formationoftheseal. Sealsshouldneverbe
poured at temperatures below freezing. Always refer to the seal manufacturers recommendations.
Thejacketandshielding of the cable shouldbe stripped back to permit the seal to form around the
individualwires.Thiswill preventair,gas,and water leakage through the inside of the shield and into
theenclosure.
Itisrecommendedthatexplosion-proof drains and conduit breathers beused. In some applications,
alternate changes in temperatureand barometric pressure can cause breathing which allows moist air
to enter and circulate inside theconduit. Joints inthe conduitsystem areseldom tight enoughto
prevent this breathing.
Threadedconnectionson the enclosure between the housing and conduit pipe need tobe sealed with
thread tape, such as
Teflon
tape, or something similar.
The conduit openings are gauged using an L-1 gauge to +½ to 2 turn tolerance.
Fieldmaintenanceor servicingonthejunctionbox is not recommended. If there areany issues,
concerns
,or warranty information required, contact Net Safety.
2.4.3 Terminal block connections
Donot open the transmitter, sensor, or junction box enclosurewhen in a classified area or when an
explosiveat
mosphere may be present unless thepower tothesensor has been removed.

equipmentbytouching a groundedmetal surface to preventthegenerationof a
spark.
When connecting cable wires, use a small flathead screwdriver togentlypressdownandholdthe
springconnector open. Insert theappropriate wire into theopen connector hole,releasingthe
screwdriver to secure thewire. Refer to Figure 2-2 below.

2.4.4 Ground connections
The junction box is equipped with aninternal and external earth groundlug.Onecrimp connectoris
provided for each ground lug. Oninstallation,crimpthe ground wire to crimpconnector and then
securelyfastencrimpconnectorto ground lug. See Figure2-3 belowforlocationsofinternaland
external grounding lugs.

2.5 Installation checklist
Review the followingchecklist priorto turning the power on to the junction boxafterinstallation has
beencompleted:
•Ensure that the junction box isproperlyandfirmly mounted.
•Ensure that stopping plugs are securely tightened on any unused conduit entries.
•Ensure that the junctionbox is not obstructed such that itis accessible.
•Ensureadherenceto applicablelocal guidelines and requirementsonwiringand sealing ofequipmentin
hazardous and non-hazardous areas.
•Ensure that propershielding and groundingpractices are adhered toand local codesare being followed.
•Check systemoperationalvoltageandconditionsandensurethattheyarewithinthe applicablespecificationsof
theconnected devices.
•Verifywiringatall terminationandjunctionpoints(junctionbox and power supply).

Thereare multiple terminal board configurations facilitatedby the JB seriesjunction box. This allows
effective, safe, and accurate terminations and sensor separation requirements across the Net Safety
productline.Theseconfigurationsareoutlinedbelow.
Eachmodelof the multi-purpose junction box contains a PCB with different components for features
that are applicable to specific models of Net Safety products, such as meter test jacks or a magnetic
switch. Refer tothespecific transmitter, detector,or sensor manualsfordetailedinstructionsabout
using these options.
3.1 Flame detection
In thefollowing drawings, the flamedetector wiring side refers to wiring betweenthe flame detector
an
dthejunctionbox terminals.Panel/PLC/DCS/RTUwiring side refers to wiringbetweenthepower
source and the junction box.
Wiringshouldbe done accordingto thedesignated terminalconnectors.

Bydefaultthe Fault relay isfixed as Energized and Non-latching and cannot be changed. The default
setting for the Alarm relay is De-energized andNon-latching. The currentloop jumper pinsat J6are not
jumperedbydefault.
If4–20mA is notbeing used close the loopby placingthe current loopjumper overpins (short J6). To
