This device complies with the radio equipment directive (2014/53/EU).
This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following
two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device
must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired
operation.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital
device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide
reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This
equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and
used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio
communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a
particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or
television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user

Introduction

Introduction to EPOC X
EPOC X is the 10th-anniversary edition of the award-winning EPOC headset. This
Brainwear® device has been designed for scalable and contextual human brain research —
providing access to professional-grade brain data with an improved and easy-to-use
design.
EPOC X features include:
14-channel EEG — for whole brain sensing
A rotating headband — for maximized wearability
Saline-based electrodes — with a new and easy to rehydrate design
Redesigned electroplated electrodes — to reduce oxidation and sensor breakages
Enhanced performance and connectivity — with our updated antenna and radio
Improved signal quality — with adjusted and relocated amplifiers

Coverage
EPOC X provides coverage of the frontal and prefrontal lobes; it also provides coverage of
the temporal, parietal and occipital lobes. The image above shows the sensor locations for
EPOC X using the international 10-20 system.
EPOC X has two electrode arms — each containing 9 locations (7 sensors + 2 references).
Two sensor locations (M1 / M2) already have comfort pads fitted as they are the
alternative reference positions (P3 / P4).

Safety precautions
EPOC X is a consumer product; it is not intended to be used as a medical device or in
hazardous environments.
EPOC X is designed for use at room temperature; rapid changes in temperature will
affect the performance of the amplifiers and increase the noise floor.
EPOC X uses saline based sensors. Every effort has been made to stop water entering
the headset and protect the electronics inside. However, the headset is not waterproof.
Do not submerge your headset in water.
WARNING: EPOC X is powered by a lithium polymer battery that is rated for operation
in <50°c environments. It is not user replaceable. If you suspect that there is a fault with
the battery, please contact EMOTIV Support.
WARNING: Do not open the headset enclosure. Doing so will void the warranty and can
damage the headset.
WARNING: Do not charge EPOC X while wearing the device.

Charging your EPOC X
Your EPOC X is charged and tested before shipping — so you can start using it straight
away.
Charging the battery
To optimize the use of your headset, we recommend that you fully charge it before making
recordings.
If the ON/OFF LED does not glow white when you turn your headset ON, it requires
charging.
To charge the battery, plug the USB charging cable into the USB-C port located on the right-
side of the headset.
Then, connect the other end of the USB charging cable to a power outlet or PC/Mac.
The length of time it takes to fully recharge your headset depends on the remaining
capacity of the lithium polymer battery. Charging can take up to two hours.
If the headset is unused for a long period of time, the battery will become heavily depleted
of charge. If this happens, you may need to charge your headset for 24-hours.
