1 Introduction
This document describes how to install the RBS 3107 on site and how to
connect it to external interfaces.
2 Prerequisites
This section contains information on the documentation, tools, equipment, and
conditions required for the installation procedure.

2.3 Equipment
The instructions in this document describe the installation, or use, of the
following hardware:
• RBS 3107 cabinet
• Earth grounding kit
• Power cables
• RF cables
• Transmission cables
• Alarm cables
• Site LAN cable
2.4 Conditions
The following conditions must be fulfilled before work starts:
Before Going to the Site
Before going to the site, ensure the following:
• Site access permission has been received
• The Site Installation Documentation is available
• All tools and instruments are available
Before Starting the Installation
Before starting the installation, ensure the following:
• The site is prepared according to the Site Installation Documentation
• The existing base frame is undamaged
• The ordered hardware is available
• The AC power supply for the RBS 3107 is installed and tested
• The site earth grounding is installed and tested
• The antenna system is installed and tested

3 Procedure
This section describes the RBS 3107 installation procedure.

Procedure
3.1 Unpacking and Checking the Material
Do!
Tip risk! This equipment has a high center of gravity without all units installed.
Secure the equipment before opening the door.
This section contains information on unpacking and checking the material.
The RBS 3107 cabinet is transported in a crate.
Note: Maximum cabinet weight is 350 kg (excluding batteries).
1. Examine the packaging for damage. If it has been damaged, then
immediately inform the transport company.
2. Check that the items delivered correspond to the packing list. For more
information, see Site Installation Documentation
3. Unpack the cabinet.
Note: Allow the cabinet to remain on the pallet until required for
installation.
4. Dispose of the crate in accordance with local regulations.
3.2 Positioning and Anchoring the Cabinet
Note: Before installing the cabinet the site must be prepared for routing
cables. All external cables, such as antenna and transmission cables,
are installed from below, that is, through openings in the bottom of
the cabinet.
To attach the cabinet to the existing base frame, do the following:
Note: The lifting device must be capable of lifting at least 400 kg.
1. Ensure that all packing is removed from the cabinet.
2. Unscrew the five bolts under the upper edge of the cabinet, as shown in the
figure below, using a hexagon 6 mm bit and a ratchet wrench.
3. Pull the cabinet roof a few centimeters towards the cabinet door, then lift it
straight up.

4. Screw the four M12 eyebolts into the top of the cabinet, as shown in the
figure below. Tighten them finger-tight.

5. Attach lifting straps to the eyebolts and lift the cabinet.
Note: The angle of the lifting strap at the hook must not be more than 90

,
as shown in the figure below. (This is equivalent to the angles
between the lifting strap and the cabinet roof being at least 45

.)
6. Position the cabinet and lower it into the place for installation.
Note: Ensure that cabinet is level in all directions.

7. Remove the lifting straps and eyebolts.
8. Insert four washers and M16 locking bolts and tighten them to the
appropriate torque (depending on the material to which the cabinet is
attached), using a torque wrench and a 24 mm Open-ended head.
9. Attach the roof by pushing it straight backwards. Screw in the five bolts
and tighten them to a torque of 8 Nm, using a 6 mm hexagon bit and a
torque wrench.

3.3 Earth Grounding the Cabinet
Do!
Products not connected to ground risk being damaged by overvoltage or
overcurrent. Always connect products to ground according to instructions.
For general information about earth grounding principles, see Grounding
Guidelines for RBS Sites.

To connect the earth grounding cable to the RBS 3107, do the following:
1. Remove the six screws holding the Distribution Frame (DF) in place, using
a T30 Torx screwdriver, and push it to the left as shown in the figure below.

Note: Ensure that the factory-installed cables attached to the rear of each
Overvoltage Protection (OVP) module are not loosened.

2. Route the earth grounding cable from the site Main Earth Terminal (MET)
to the cabinet earth grounding point.
3. Remove the M8 nut and washer.
4. Connect the earth grounding cable according to the figure above. The
washer must be placed between the cable lug and the nut. Tighten the nut
to 15 Nm, using a torque wrench and a 13 mm socket.
Note: Do not put back the DF yet. The opening is needed for the installation
of the AC mains cable described in section Section 3.5 on page
16. Furthermore, both sides of the DF must be available during the
installation of transmission, alarm, and GPS solution cables. See
Section 3.7 on page 35, Section 3.9 on page 49 and Section 3.10 on
page 53.
3.4 Connecting the External Battery Backup (Optional)
This section describes how to connect external battery backup to the DC filter,
if external battery backup is used. The DC filter is located below the ACCU.

3.4.1 Installing the Temperature Sensor Cable
This section describes how to connect the temperature sensor cables to the
DC filter.
1. Ensure that the temperature sensor
cable on the upper side of the DC
filter is connected as shown in the
figure.
Route the cable on the left-hand side
of the cabinet, well separated from
other cables, and connect it to the
BFU.

2. Loosen the screws and lift up the DC filter.
3. Connect the temperature sensor
cable from the external batteries to
the D-sub connector of the DC filter.
Note: The figure shows the bottom
of the DC filter.
3.4.2 Installing the External Battery Backup
This section describes how to connect the power cables from the external
battery backup to the DC filter.

Procedure
Caution!
Improper handling of batteries can result in the batteries short-circuiting, which
can result in serious injury due to high energy levels. Exercise the necessary
care when working with batteries.
1. Ensure that the positive (+) cable is disconnected from the external batteries
before following the instruction below.
2. Remove the bottom cover plate of the DC filter and the cable glands.
3. Insert and connect the stripped
cables from the external batteries to
the DC filter.
Note: The figure shows the bottom
of the DC filter.
4. Position the correct side of the cable clamps for the cross-sectional area of
the cable in accordance with the table below.

5. Tighten the nuts to 7–9Nmtorque.
6. Tighten the cable glands.

7. Put back the bottom cover plate and tighten the screws.
8. Position the DC filter and tighten the screws.
9. Connect the earth grounding cable to the RBS as shown in the figure below.
Tighten the nut to a torque of 15 Nm.

10. Connect the earth grounding, temperature sensor, and signal cables to the
RBS.
11. Connect the battery cable to EXT BATT.

3.5 Connecting the AC Power
This section contains instructions for connecting the AC power.
Danger!
Electric shock risk. Avoid both direct and indirect contact with parts connected
to mains power as this is likely to be fatal. Switch off the mains power before
starting work.
Danger!
Improper electrical installation may cause fire or electric shock that is likely to
be fatal. Only a qualified and authorized electrician is permitted to install or
modify electrical installations.
Stop!
Do not install or modify AC or DC powered equipment unless you are a
qualified and authorized electrician. Improper installation work can seriously
damage the equipment.
1. Ensure the following:
That the AC power is switched off at the source.
That the AC mains switch and all circuit breakers on the Alternating Current
Connection Unit (ACCU) are in their OFF positions.
That all the switches on Power Distribution Units (PDU) are in their OFF
positions.
That the switches on the Battery Fuse Unit (BFU) are off.
That the DF is removed so that there is easy access to the power cable.
