General installation information:
Thisappliancemustbeinstalledaccordingtotheseinstructionsandincompliancewith
allrelevantbuilding,gastting,electricalandotherstatutoryregulations(eg.AS/NZS
5601).Anyshortcomingsintheapplianceandueinstallationwillbetheresponsibility
oftheinstaller,andEsceawillnotbeaccountableforanysuchfailingsortheirconse-
quences.
Oncethisapplianceisinstalleditcannotberemovedwithoutdisturbingthewalllining.
ThisDXSeriesreplaceshasbeendispatchedfromthefactorysetasasinglesidedver-
sion.ThiscanbeconvertedintoadoublesidedappliancebyusingtheDoubleSided
ConversionKitavailablefromyourEsceadistributor.Conversiondetailsareshownin

A2 Product Description
TheEsceaDX1500/DX1000gasreisadirectvent(fandraughtbalancedue),room
sealedgasappliancedesignedtobebuiltintoacavity.Thisapplianceisuedusingaco-
linearexiblealuminiumueconnectedtoapowerueterminal.
Thehotairfromthegasreistransferredtotheroomviaducting.
TheuserwillcontroltheirrewiththeRadioFrequency(RF)remotethatwillnormallybe
leftinitswallmountcradle.InadditiontotheRFremoteithasasingleauxiliaryOn/O
buttonontheunit.Whennotinoperationitisinastandbymodeunlessitisphysically
isolatedfromthemainssupply.

Note: You must provide sucient access to the powerue to enable it to be serviced in the
future. This means that the fan unit must have sucient access to allow it to be replaced if
necessary.

B11 Ducting
Thisgasrerequiresasmallnetworkofductingsituatedeitherintheceilingorunderthe
oortodistributetheheatgeneratedbythisreplace.
TheDX1500/DX1000hasbeensuppliedwithaninlinecentrifugalroomairfanthat
drawsairfromtheroom,throughthegasreappliancethenpushesthewarmedairback
intothesameroomthroughatleast2ductoutletsandanoptionaloneintoahallway.
When placing outlets in rooms other than the room the appliance is installed, it is
important to allow for back ow to equalise pressure between the rooms, and to
allow for temperature regulation.
Caution: Neglecting to allow backow of return air to the replace can
result in a risk to personal safety to infants or inrm persons.
WARNING: OVERHEATED ROOMS ARE NOT SAFE FOR INFANTS
Theoneotherductcanbeinstalledintoanadjoininghallwayonly.Failuretofollowthese
instructions could cause serious harm to persons or appliance.
This fan is powered via a connection to the main appliance. This appliance has been sup-
pliedwithastandardductkitthatwillallow3x150mmoutlets-Youcanuseyourown
ductworkandoutlets,butyoumustensuretheyareratedtotemperaturesofatleast90
degreesCelsius.ThemaximumnumberofoutletsfortheDX1500is8,andDX1000is5.
Ductworkmustbeadequatelysizedtoavoidexcessbackpressures.Inadequateductsizes
willcauseunnecessaryfannoiseandprematurefanfailure.
Werecommendremovingthecloseapsfromallbutoneoftheductoutletstoprevent
unnecessarybackpressure.
Aminimumnumberof2outletsmustremainfullyopenatalltimesduringoperation.
Fannoisewillincreaseasbackpressureincreaseswithfeweroutletsopen.

Becausetheseductswillactassoundtubesthatamplifythesoundofthefan,youmay
considerinstallingairductsilencers.Avarietyoftheseproductsareavailablefromyour
localbuildingsupplierandcaneasilybeinstalledwiththissystem.Wealsorecommend
usingsoundabsorbingmaterialsforliningyourwalls,ductsandfan.Insulatingtheduct
systemwillalsohelpwithtotaleciency.
• CheckwithyourlocalcounciltochoosethecorrectR-valueduct.
• Ductworkshouldbeasshortaspossiblewhilemaintainingsmoothowingbends.
• Ductworkandoutletregistersmustbeadequatelysupported
• Alloutletregistersmustbefullyopenandfreefromobstruction.
• Ductworkmustnotbecrushedorexposedtoheatsources.
• Ensureductinganduepipesareseparatedandtiedback,sotonevertouch.
• Failuretofollowthismaycausefailureofductwork,andvoidthewarranty.
Note: If duct backpressure is too great, the appliance will shut down due to overheating.
This ducting fan will generate mechanical noise. It must be installed in a position where noise
will not interfere with daily activities. We recommend installing the fan within a garage roof
space for example. All air ducts will make noise no matter how well the system is designed.
Increasing the diameter and number of outlets is the best strategy to reduce this noise.

B12 Duct Fan mounting
Usingthe2xspringmountssupplied,theductfanshouldbeinstalledinahangingposi-
tionasperthedrawingbelow.Youmustusethespringmountsasthiswillhelpdecrease
noisebynottransferringvibrationintothewalls.
Wesuggestusingthelikesof“buildersstrapping”orsimilarasshowntohangthesprings
from.
Runtheelectricalcablefromtheductfantothecavitywheretheappliancewillbein-
stalled.Ensurethecableisnotdrapedoverorincontactwiththeoutershelloftheappli-
anceoreitheroftheexiuetubesandkeptclearfromanyotherpossibleheatsources.
Fixitappropriatelyandallowenoughcablelooptopreventtensiononthecableplugs.

C1 Power Supply
Whilethecavityisbeingcreated

of the appliance.
IMPORTANT:Locatingthepoweroutletwithinthecavitymakestheinstallationveryneat
butprovisionMUSTbemadetobeabletoswitchthepowersupplyoandon(electri-
calisolationswitch)andMUSTbeaccessibleaftertheheaterhasbeeninstalled.Thisis
normallydonebymeansofaseparateswitchlocatedoutsideofthecavityandwiredto
theplug.Thiswillallowtechnicianstoisolatethepowersupplybeforeservicingtheap-
pliance.
Thisappliancemustnotbelocatedimmediatelybelowasocketoutlet.
Thisappliancewilldrawamaximumof2Ampsfroma230/240Vsupply.
Noadditionalpowersupplyisrequiredforthepowerue.
C2 Network Cable
A5meterlengthofnetwork(Ethernet)cablehasbeensuppliedandiscoiledinsidethe
lowerrightofthereplace.Accessthisviatheremovableaccesspanel,andconnectitto
thebuildingsmodem.
If you do not wish to connect the replace to the modem, the Network /
Ethernet cable should be run to somewhere accessible by a service
technician, such as a cupboard.

D1 Installing the Horizontal Powerue Wall Terminal option
TheHorizontalPowerueWallTerminalmustbeinstalledin
the correct orientation. This allows for the correct operation
oftheuesystemandpreventstheingressofwater.
TheHorizontalPowerueWallTerminalmustbeweather-
tightwheninstallationiscompletetopreventdamageto
thedwelling.Itmustbeinstalledbyasuitablyqualied
person.
FittheHorizontalPowerueWallTerminalintotheholeandxinplace,makingsurethe
installationissealedappropriatelytopreventtheingressofwaterfromoutsidethewall
cladding.Takenoticeofthelabelontheterminationwhichshowsthecorrectorientation
thattheterminalshouldbetted.
NOTE:ItistheresponsibilityoftheinstallertoensuretheHorizontalPowerueWallTermi-
nalisinstalledtoallrelevantbuildingcodestoensureweathertightness.

D2 Installing the Vertical Powerue Roof Terminal option
Theverticalueoptionisdesignedtohavetheboxcontain-
ingthefanandelectricalsmountedwithintheroofspaceof
thehouse,andthevertical200mmdiametertwinwallue
penetratethroughtheroof.Thestandardkitcomeswith1.2m
oftwinwallue(postfan),butyoucanaddasmuchasyou
requiretoachievethedesiredinstallation.Notetotalcombined
maximumverticaluemustbelessthan10metres.
Usestandardmethodstoashtheroofpenetration,theinstal-
lation must be weather proof and conform to all local council
standardsincludingpoweredueroofterminationrules.
Thecowlsurroundshouldbexedinplaceasshown
Mountthefanassemblyboxtoroofframingusingtimberor
buildersstrapping,ensuringtheueisverticalandrigidly
mounted.
Aimtohavethefanboxmountedashighaspossible,mainlyto
allowsucientfallforcondensationdrainageiftheexi-ueis
torunhorizontally.
Ensurethereissucientspacebelowfanboxtohaveaccessto
ttheexi-uetubesandtoallowowingbendsifrequired.
