Introduction
F-Drive series drivers offer centralized control of ArcSystem Navis luminaires, ArcSystem Pro
luminaires, and third-party fixtures. Output wiring requirements and methods vary depending on the
load and the chosen wire type. This guide covers considerations and recommendations for output
wiring from F-Drive series drivers to different types of load. For full installation instructions, see the
F-Drive Series R12 Installation Manual
or
F-Drive Series W1 Installation Manual
and the installation
manual for the luminaire or load (see
Load Types below
). All ETCdocuments are available for free
download at etcconnect.com.
Load Types
F-Drive R12 has modular output cards that can drive a variety of loads, and F-Drive W1Drivers come
in different models to drive a variety of loads. This document covers the following load types. The
associated installation documents for ETCluminaires are listed below for convenience.

ArcSystem Navis
ArcSystem Navis 100 luminaires can be daisy-chained together using their RJ45 In and Out ports.
See the
Arcsystem Navis 100 Installation Guide
for details. This allows F-Drive series drivers to
provide power and data to up to four ArcSystem Navis 100 luminaires from the RJ45 output on a
single output card using Category-type*cable (*see the note below about minimum conductor
gauge).

(RGBW only)†
Note: *
If you are installing Navis luminaires, you must use 0.25mm2(23AWG) or larger
conductors in Category-type cable. Not all Cat5 or Cat6 cables meet this requirement.
Note: †
Navis 100 RGBW luminaires are not self-terminating. You must terminate the last
luminaire in line with a 120
Ω
resistor.
An RJ45 terminator is included with each F-Drive series Chroma Card. To purchase extra
RJ45 terminators, please contact your ETC customer service representative and request part
number N4086.
Note:
Connect only the same types of luminaires in a wiring run. Do not mix White, Fade
to Warm, and RGBW luminaires in the same wiring run.

Constant Current Driver Configuration
CAUTION:
Setting the F-Drive CC-150Card or W1CVDriver to output more
current than the manufacturer recommends for the loads may reduce the lifetime
or cause damage to the load.
The CC-150Card in the F-Drive R12 Driver and the W1CCDriver are set by default to provide the
appropriate current for ArcSystem Navis 100 White luminaires (600 mA), but can output 200–700mA
for compatibility with ArcSystem Pro One-Cell luminaires and third-party loads. Output current can
be configured via RDM. See
ArcSystem Pro Series on the next page
and the
F-Drive R12 Series
Installation Manual
or the
F-Drive W1 Series Installation Manual
for more details.
Category-Type Cable Requirements
ArcSystem Navis Luminaires typically connect to the F-Drive W1Driver or F-Drive R12 output card
via Category-type cable terminated to RJ45 connectors. Up to four luminaires can be daisy-chained
along one run of cable when using the RJ45 output from an output card. ArcSystem Navis luminaires
require:
•
0.25mm2(23AWG) or larger conductors in Category-type cable
•
100 m (328 ft) maximum wire run length (including twice the stem length of the pendant
accessory if you are installing a pendant)
•
2.4 A maximum per cable
Cable Bundling
Note:
Cable bundling limitations apply to F-Drive R12 Class 2 output cables. For
reference on maximum number of four-pair cables in a bundle, see NFPA 70 2020 National
Electrical Code, table 725.144.
The conductors in the category-type cable have a maximum current that they can carry before
exceeding the temperature rating of the cable. This limit restricts the number of cables that can be
bundled together.
Navis Luminaire Current Requirements
•
1–4 daisy-chained Navis 100 RGBW luminaires require 1 Aacross 3 wire pairs
•
1–4 daisy-chained Navis 100 White luminaires require 0.7 A per wire pair
•
1–4 daisy-chained Navis 100 Fade to Warm luminaires require 0.45 A per wire pair
Limits for 75°CRated Cable
The current requirements of each Navis luminaire type limit the number of four-pair cables per
bundle. The limits below are for cable with 0.25mm2(23AWG) conductors rated to 75°C:
•
19 four-pair cables per bundle if any cables go to Navis 100 RGBWluminaires
•
91 four-pair cables per bundle if all cables go to Navis 100 White luminaires or a combination
of Navis 100 White and Navis 100 Fade to Warm luminaires
•
192 four-pair cables per bundle if all cables go to Navis 100 Fade to Warm luminaires
Patching Requirements
If you are using a patch panel between the F-Drive W1Driver or F-Drive R12 output card, pins must
be rated for more than 1A.

ArcSystem Pro Series
ArcSystem Pro White and FTWluminaires can be wired to the F-Drive Series Constant Current
Drivers using the two-pin outputs. Each luminaire requires its own cable and two-pin output from the
output card. See the
F-Drive R12 Series Installation Manual
or the
F-Drive W1 Series Installation
Manual

Constant Current Driver Configuration
The CC-150Card in the F-Drive R12 Driver and the W1CCDriver can output 200–700 mA for
compatibility with ArcSystem Pro One-Cell White and FTWluminaires and third-party loads. Output
current can be configured via RDM. See

Third-Party Loads
CAUTION:
Setting the F-Drive CC-150Card or W1CCDriver to output more
current than the manufacturer recommends for the loads may reduce the lifetime
or cause damage to the load.
The F-Drive R12 Driver with CC-150Card and F-Drive W1CCDriver are capable of driving
third-party constant current loads, and the F-Drive R12 Driver with CV-150Card and F-Drive
W1CVDriver are capable of driving third-party constant voltage loads. Each R12 output card or W1
driver provides four output channels with the specifications listed below:

Note:
The maximum output of the CC-150 Card, CV-150 Card, W1 CC Driver, and W1
CV Driver is 50 W per channel and the combined maximum output for all four channels is
150 W. Do not bus/bridge channels to attempt to exceed the individual channel limits.
Example: A CV-150Card can be used to power one 3.9m (12ft 9in) segment of
24VDC, 9.5W/m LED tape on each channel.

ArcSystem ArcLamp
The F-Drive R12 with ArcLamp150Card has four output channels. Each output channel can support
up to eight ArcSystem ArcLamps with a total of up to 32 ArcLamps per card. Fixtures with ArcLamps
can be wired to the two-pin outputs of the ArcLamp150Card.

Voltage Drop
Voltage drop along load wiring is an issue for constant voltage loads. Voltage drop calculations vary
by project and are based on the type, length, and gauge of wire. The CV-150Card and the
ArcLamp150Card have an adjustabledial on the front of the driver card to set the 24–28 VDC (+/-
5%) output. Measure the voltage at the load and adjust the dial to achieve 24 VDC at the load.
Contact a qualified electrician and see the
F-Drive Series R12 Installation Manual
or
F-Drive Series
W1 Installation Manual
for additional information.
ArcLamp
Voltage drop is an important factor to consider when determining the installation location of an R12
with an ArcLamp150Card. The installation location determines the maximum wire distance to the
ArcLamp loads. For your convenience, an interactive voltage drop calculator is available at
etcconnect.com/ArcLamp.
