To turn off yourwaterheater

STARTINGUP
Oncetheunithasbeen properlyinstalled,checkthegas
andwaterconnectionsforleaks.
Closethe manualgasshut-offvalvelocated on the
gasline.
Fullyopenthe manualwatershut-off valveon the wa-
tersupplyline.
Toensurecompletefillingoftheheatexchangertank,
allowairtoexitbyopeningthenearesthot water
faucet.Allowwatertorununtil aconstant flowis
obtained.Thiswillletairout ofthe waterheaterand
piping.
Openahotwatertap tocheckthatwaterwillflowto
thattap.Thenclosethehotwatertap.
Fullyopenthemanual shut-offgasvalve.
Plug inthe120 VAC/60Hzpowersupplytothe water
heaterand turnonthe unit.

Beforeoperating, makesurethat agasleakisnot
evident bysmellingtheareaaroundtheunit. Be
suretosmellnexttothefloorbecausegasisheavier
thanairand willsettle on the floor.
Useonlyhandtoturnthe gasvalveknob.Neveruse
tools.If the knob will not turnbyhand, do not try to
repairit, call aqualified servicetechnician.Forceor
attempted repaircouldresult in afireorexplosion
duetothegasleakage.
Donotusethiswaterheaterifanypart hasbeen
underwater.Immediatelycallaqualifiedservicetech-
niciantoinspect the waterheaterand toreplaceany
partsthathavebeen underwater.
Do notinstall the unitstanding directlyon
combustiblesurface.
Thiswaterheaterdoesnothaveapilot.Itisequipped
withanignitiondevicewhichautomaticallylightsthe
burner.Do nottry tolightthe burnermanually.
Checkforproperventilationandcombustibleairsupply
tothewaterheater.Purgethe gasandwaterlinesto
removedebris;then followthesestepstoturnonyour
unit.

Toswitchthewater heaterON: fromOFFcondition
Pressthe PowerButton.
-Thetemperatureselectedwillbeindicatedonthe
Digital Monitor.
-TheONIndicatorwilllightup.
Whenrunningthewaterbyopeningthewatertap,
thewaterheaterwillstarttheburnerautomatically
andtheDigital Monitorwill show theactualwater
temperature.When watertapsareclosed,the unit
will stop the burnerand theDigitalMonitorwill show
thesettemperature.
Toswitchthewaterheater OFF:
Pressthe PowerButton.
-The temperatureselected on theDigitalMonitorwill
goout.
-TheONIndicatorwillturnoff.
Toadjustwatertemperature:
Press the "HOT"or"COLD"TemperatureSetting
ButtonwithunitON.(Temperaturesettingisonly
adjustablewhen the waterheaterisnotinuse.)
The maximumwatertemperaturesetting can be
limitedbyDIPswitches.Thismanualsettingoverrides
adjustabletemperaturesettingsonthefrontpanel.

Removethethermistorfromheatexchangerand

valvebeforeservicing.

SedimentBuild-up:Unlikeatypicalstorage tank,
thisheaterhasaselfcleaning systeminitiated
bythe flowofwater. Build up ofsediment infaucet
aerators,showerheadsand screenscouldimpair
waterflowandcausethewaterheatertodeliver
less thanitsfull output, ortoshutdowncompletely.
Checkanyofthesescreensorshowerheadson
yourfaucetsperiodicallyandcleanasnecessary.
PhysicalDamage:If the waterheaterhasbeensub-
jected tofire,flood,orphysical damage,turnoffthe
manualgasshutoffvalveanddonotoperatethewa-
terheateragainuntil it hasbeen checked byquali-
fied personnel.
TemperatureSetting:Hotterwaterincreasesthe
riskofscalding injury.
VentingSystemInspection:Avisual inspection
should bemade on theventingsystematleastonce
ayear.

Besurethe venting isproperlyconnected topre-
ventescapeofdangerousflue gaseswhichcould
causedeadlyasphyxiation.
Obstructionscouldcauseimproperventing.The
combustionand ventilation airflowmustnotbe
ob-structed.
Damage ordeteriorationwhichcouldcauseim-
properventing orleakage ofcombustion
byproducts.

CleanUp:The flueoutletandtheairintakeholeson
the bottomsidesofthe waterheatershouldbe checked
frequently.Cleanasneededtopreventthe entryof
water,insects,rodentsorotherforeignmaterialssuch
asfallenleavesanddustthatcould causeblockages.
Donot obstructtheflowofcombustionairandex-
haustairflow.
Water Strainer:Thewaterstrainershouldbe
checked atleastonceayear.It protectsvalvefrom
dirt,andpipescale.Self-cleanbyopeningvalve
orplugconnectedtoablow-offoutlet.

Carefullychoosethelocation forthe newheateras
placementisaveryimportantconsiderationforthe
safetyofthe occupantsinthe building and forthe
most economicaluseoftheappliance.
Whetherreplacing anold waterheaterorputting
thewaterheaterinanew location,considerthe
following criticalpoints:
Thelocationselected shouldbe asclosetothe
venttermination pointaspossible,and centered
withinthe waterpiping systemforbesthot wa-
terdelivery.All waterheaterscan leak.Do not
installwithoutadequatedrainage provisions

Forotherthan directventappliance,the
appliancemustbe located ascloseaspossible
toachimneyorgasvent.
The applianceshouldbe located inanarea
whereleakageofthetankorconnectionswill
notresultindamagetotheareaadjacentto
the applianceortolowerfloorsofthe structure.
Whensuchlocationscannotbe avoided,itis
recommended thatasuitabledrainpanbe
installed underthe appliance.The pan mustnot
restrictcombustionairflow.
Theminimuminlet gaspressuremust be within
thevalue specifiedbythemanufacturerand the
minimumvaluelistedisonlyforthepurpose
ofinputadjustment.
Ifawaterheaterisinstalledinclosedwater
supplysystem,suchasone having abackflow

ANSIZ21.22/CAN1-4.4.Thevalvemustbemarked
withamaximumsetpressurenottoexceed the
marked hydrostaticworking pressureofthe wa-
terheater(150psi)and adischargecapacitynot
lessthanthe waterheaterinput rateasmarked
on therating plate.

ofexhaustgasestothe outside atmosphere.Correct
installationof theventpipesystemismandatoryfor
thesafeandefficientoperationofthiswaterheaterand
isanimportant factorin thelifeoftheunit.
Ventpipeinstallation mustbeperformedin accordance
withstateandlocalcodes,orinthe absenceofsuch,
thelatesteditionofNational FuelGasCode,NFPA 54/
ANSI223.1.Canadianinstallationsmustbeperformed
inaccordancewithCAN/CGA-B149.
VENTPIPEMATERIAL
Eternal Hybrid WaterHeaterisagasburningappliance
withfan-assisted exhaust. The appliancemustbe vented
with4"CategoryIIIspecial venting,whichisairtightto

berun fromthewaterheaterthroughthewallorfromthe
walltothewaterheater,whicheverismostconvenient.
The ventpipe mustextendaminimumof1.5"through
theexteriorwall.Notethatinsidecollars mustbeslipped
overtheventpipingbeforelocatingthepipethroughthe
wall.
Beforesecuringtheinsideandoutside collarstothe
wall,useasilicone sealerbetweenpipeandopeningto
ensurewaterand airtightseal.
Topreventcondensatefromcollectingin theventingsys-
temslopethe ventatadownwardpitchof1/4"per12ft.

Clean pipeandfittingwithaprimer/cleaner.
Applyathincoat ofcementtofitting,avoiding pud-
ding inside.
Applyaliberalcoatofcementtopipeleavingno voids.
Quicklyassemble partswhilecementisfluid.
Pushpipe completelyintosocketoffitting,turningas
itgoesuntil itbottoms.
Holdpipeand fittingtogetherfor30seconds.Then
carefullyclean offexcess withacloth.Allow connec-
tionssufficienttimetocurebeforedisturbing.
Rememberthat vent pipesmustbe adequatelyand
securelysupported.
