Braking resistors
Used to dissipate any excess energy generated by the
DC power BUS during electric motor braking. They do
not need an external power supply.
Bus protection module
Install in QC-PDS systems having:
Synchronous spindle and only when required by the
application.
Purpose. Protect the power semi-conductors (IGBTs)
of the drive that governs it to prevent damage to the
unit due to a very high voltages that may be
generated at the power bus when the braking energy
cannot be returned during braking and/or
QC-RPS-
-F
power supply when only the
controlled stop is to be ensured.
Purpose. To ensure a controlled stop of the motor due
to mains failure because the energy may be
dissipated while braking at the external Ballast
resistors installed in the QC-BPM-100 module. Not
installing this module will result in an uncontrolled
stop (by friction) in case of a voltage failure due to an
over-voltage error of the bus because there are no
resistors to dissipate the braking energy.

WARNING. HEAT DANGER. DO NOT TOUCH the surface of
these resistors. Remember that they can sometimes
exceed temperatures of 300 °C (572 °F). If it is installed
in an easily accessible location, precautions must be
taken to prevent unintentional contact. Also avoid heat
sensitive items (cables, etc.) from coming into contact
with the surface to avoid damaging or destroying these
elements and/or causing other more dangerous
situations.

breaking resistor(s). Use the attached table to
determine the arrangement of the micro-switches
based on the external braking resistor model
installed on the QC-PS-
power supply X15
connector.
WARNING.
If you are installing an external
NON-FAGOR
resistor and if its power is higher than any of the
FAGOR
resistors listed in that same cell then select the
indicated micro-switch arrangement. Ignoring this

MANDATORY.
The QC-PDS system which usually includes the
external safety controller is identified as a fixed
installation meant to always work inside an electrical
cabinet with an IP54 protection degree or greater.
Note that the start button, the E-stop button and
other elements may be installed outside the electrical
cabinet (enclosure).
The units must be installed vertically.
Access to the cabinet must be restricted to qualified
maintenance personnel, who must use a key or tool to
open the door or barrier, clearly marked with the
corresponding warning signs, as stipulated in section
3.5 of IEC 61800-5-1.
