Unboxing
Thank you for purchasing the Flexstr8 high Speed UHF Encoder for the Epson 7500.
Your Purchase will be shipped in a protective container to avoid damage whilst shipping. Below
is an example of the box that you will receive with your encoder inside.
The package includes:
1. Snap-on Encoder Unit
2. Flexstr8 UHF Encoder Box
3. Coaxial Cable
4. Fiber Optic Power Supply
5. Power Supply for the Encoder Box
6. Ethernet Cable

Hardware Installation
A. Remove the Encoder from the box.
B. Then, remove the Snap-on unit and place it on the Epson 7500 Rewinder.

C. Remove theses four cables/power supplies from the box:
1. Coaxial Cable
2. Ethernet Cable
3. Encoder Power Supply
4. Fiber Optic Power Supply
D. Plug in both the fiber optic power supply and the encoder power supply to power outlets.

E. Next, connect the fiber optic power supply with the cable coming from the snap-on unit,
the correct power supply is pictured below.

F. Please attach the cable from the snap-on unit to the encoder box. Then tighten in place.

G. Attach the coaxial cable to the snap-on unit and the encoder box, as shown below

H. Ensure your encoder and snap-on unit are connected exactly as the picture shows below.
The snap-on unit should be connected to antenna port 1

I. Finally, plug in the encoder (purple circle) and connect the ethernet port (green circle) to
your local network. Your Epson 7500 must be on the same network as your FlexStr8
Encoder to work. The correct power supply for the encoder is shown below.

Preparing the Printer: Loading Roll Section
A. Place the label roll in the printer, so that the labels will feed into the printhead when the
printer is turned on.

B. Once the printer has started, and says “Ready” press the feed button to release at
minimum 5 labels. (These 5 labels are needed to synchronize the printer and encoder.)
C. The labels should feed correctly into the snap-on unit between the optics. Pictures are
shown below. This is the correct placement of the labels in the snap-on unit. Please make
sure the labels are in between the fiber optic sensors.

D. An ideal set-up for a first time job looks like this. (Note: the encoder will not work unless a
label is detected. Please make sure at least 5 labels are feed out for your first job.)

Software Installation & Use
A. Please visit http://www.flexstr8.us/epson-rfid-encoder/ to download and extract our
software for the UHF Encoder.

B. Once extracted and installed. Press the shortcut on your desktop or in your start menu.

C. When prompted to set firewall permissions, select ‘Yes’. Select private and public
networks
D. If you receive a message saying “Windows protected your PC” please select more info
and run anyway.

E. Wait until ‘Reader Status: Ready’, then add job by clicking the green plus in the top left
corner. (Note: The Reader Status will start as red, and say “Unknown, please verify enoder
is running” this just means the encoder is starting up, please be patient.)

F. On the left side of the pop-up window, select your desired image file

G. On the right hand side, select your encode file
H. Then, press preview and select the number of encodes that you would like in the job
I. You can upload your own files by pressing ‘Upload File’
