FlowMax™ 221 Quick Start Guide
Operation
1. Press to turn on FlowMax 221.
Important: Without activity, FlowMax 221 will power down automatically after approximately one minute. After power
down, press to restart the FlowMax 221 (flow pulse will not restart the display).
Meter Cal
METER CAL is entered at the factory. Changing the CAL number is required only after field replacement of
display assembly and/or flowmeter.
Display Titles
2. Press to start the display.
3. Press to toggle through VOL1, VOL2, VOL3.
4. Press to display Flow Rate in gallons/min [liters/min].
Entering Data
Clearing Volume Totals
1. Press and hold until VOL 1 is displayed.

2. Press . The display will flash CLR V1.
3. Press to toggle between CLR V1, CLR V2, CLR V3.
4. Press . The selected volume will reset to zero.
Entering Meter Cal
1. Press .
2. Press .
3. Press and hold until the METER CAL # is displayed.
4. Press . A “C” will appear on the right side of the display.
5. Press to decrease the Meter Cal # or press to increase the Meter Cal #.
6. Press to program the adjusted Meter Cal #.
Changing from US to SI Units
1. Press .
2. Press .
3. Press and hold until “US” is displayed.
4. Press . A “C” will appear on the right side of the display.
5. Press key to toggle from “US” to “SI”.
6. Press to program either “US” or “SI” setting.
Calculating “METER CAL”
The Flow Meter calibration number is stamped on the tag attached to each FlowMax 221. Write this number
down so it is available if future programming is required.

To convert original METER CAL from gallons to desired units of measure (oz, lbs, or liters), see METER CAL
CONVERSIONS. Write down this calibration number for future reference when programming the FlowMax
221.
Meter Cal Conversions
To convert the METER CAL number, divide the original number (printed on FlowMax 221 label) by the desired
conversion factor. The table below provides some liquid conversions.
For Example:To convert gallons to 600 gallons to liters.
Gallons x Conversion Rate = Meter Cal in New Unit (EQ 1)
600 x 3.875 = 2325 (EQ 2)
Battery Replacement
FlowMax 221 is operated with two 1.5 volt lithium AA batteries. The batteries do not need to be within normal
voltage specifications or installed to retain current totals. “LoBAT” will flash on the display indicating limited
remaining battery life.
Battery Installation
1. Remove the six screws from the display screen and bezel.
2. Remove the batteries from the back of the display screen.
3. While verifying polarity, insert the new batteries in the back of the display screen.
4. Replace the display screen and bezel on the FlowMax 221. Verify O-ring alignment during this process.
5. Reinstall the six screws. Tighten screws in the order shown in the figure above and on the Display Bezel to
20 in. lbs.
