TheXIFOS33barhasbeendesignedinaccordancewiththesafetyrequirements
ofEN62368-1:2014.ThisIEC-derivedstandardisharmonisedundertheEULow
VoltageDirectiveandrecognisedbyUL.
• Theemitterpinsareresistivelycoupledtothehighvoltagesupplies.Theemitters
areaClass1electricalenergysource,asdefinedinEN62368-1:2014.Contact
withtheemittersisnotpainfulandwillnotresultinelectrically-causedinjury,but
maycauseadetectablesensationduetothesmallcurrentwhichwillflow.
• AswithallpulsedDCstaticeliminators,itispossiblefortheusertoreceivea
smallstaticshockasaresultoftheirbodybeingchargedbythebar,andthen
dischargingtoanearbyearthedobject.Thisisnotdangerous,butmaybe
uncomfortableandcausesurprise.
• Theemitterpinsofthebararenecessarilysharp.TheemitterpinsareaClass2
mechanicalenergysource,asdefinedinEN62368-1:2014.Contactwith
themmaybepainful,butwillnotcauseaninjuryrequiringemergencymedical
attention.Takecarewhenhandlingthebar.
• Installationandmaintenanceworkonthebarmustonlybecarriedoutby
suitablyqualifiedpersonnel.
• Thenegativepoleofthe24VDCsupplyprovidedtothebarmustbe
permanentlyearthed.
• Adequateinstallationearth/groundisrequiredtoensuresafeandproper
operation.
• DonotconnectordisconnecttheM12cablefromthebarwhileitispowered.
• Asmallamountofozonewillbeproducedaspartoftheionisationprocess.

andiswithininternationallyacceptedlimits.

problem.Rememberthatstaticcanberegeneratedifthematerialpassesover
rollersorthroughaprocessafterneutralising.AStaticMetersuchastheFraser715
isusefultodeterminethebestposition.
Important: Except on a winding reel of material (seetheexamplesonthefollowing
page),thematerialtobeneutralisedmustbeinfreeair,nottouchinganother
surfaceasitpassesthebar.Itisnotpossibletoneutralisestaticelectricitywhere
thematerialistouchinganothersurfaceorroller.

Generally,witharewindorunwind,itisdesirabletousealong-rangebartocope
withthechanginggeometrysothatyoucanneutralisethereelfromthecoretothe
nisheddiameterattheendofthewind.
Thereisanoptimumlocationtoneutralisethereel,whichisshownbythefollowing
diagrams.
TheprincipleistoneutralisethelmAFTERitleavesthenalrollerandasitjoins
thereel.
Ifthereisalay-onorcontactroller(C),thebestpositionfortheXIFOS33isonthe
sidewherethelmleavesthelay-onroller-inthiscasetheunderside(A)-because
itcanneutralisethechargeassoonasitiscreated.Ifthisisnotpractical,then
positionthebaronthetopside.(B)

OnacentrewindertheXIFOS33maybepositionedaboveorbelowthereel.Itisa
goodideafortheionisationtobedirectedmainlyatthereel,butalsocatchingthe
singlesheet,asshownat(A).Position(B)isalsoacceptable.
Itisoftennotpossibletoplaceabarintheoptimumposition(A).Thereasonforthis
maybethattheidealbarlocationwouldgetinthewayoftheloading/unloading
processforthereelsorwouldbeinapositionwhereoperatorsmightstandonit.
Inadirtyordustyenvironment,itisbettertoplacethebarfacingdown,sincethe
faceofthebarwillnotbecoveredbythedust.Thisisnotaproblem.Itispossibleto
positionthebaratotherpositions,suchas(B)andstillachieveaverygoodresult.
Wealwayssaythatalmwebmustbein‘freeair’andnottouchingarollerto
achievegoodneutralisation.Thisisbecauseweknowthatthechargeonthe
materialwilltemporarilycombinewiththerollerandnotbeavailableforremoval
bytheeliminator.Thisremainstrue.However,onceyouhaveanumberoflayers
onareelorwinder,allwiththesamepolarityofchargeonthem,thechargecanno
longercombineandcanthereforebeneutralisedlayerbylayer.

4. Installation
• Useallofthe‘T’fixingsprovidedformountingthebar.The‘T’fixingsslideinto
theslotinthebaseofthebar.Whenmountingthebar,the‘T’fixingsmustbe
evenlydistributedalongthelengthofthebar.Donotallowmorethan800mmof
unsupportedbarbetween‘T’fixings.
• Thebarmustbedryandoil-free.
• Onlymountthebarwiththeslottouchingthemachineorthemountingbracket.
• Whenmountingtothemachineoronabracket,makesurenometalextends
beyondtheslotinthebar.Seethediagrambelow.
Note:Longbarsneedcarefulhandlingduringinstallationtoavoiddamage.
Barslongerthan2,000mmmustbehandledbytwopeople.

Warning!
The 0V (negative) output of the 24VDC supply to the bar must be earthed.
If this is not done, the bar and the power supply will be damaged and all
warranties will be voided.
ElectricalconnectionstothebararemadeviatheM125-polemaleconnectoron
theendcapofthebar.
IfusingtheFraserAnti-StaticexternalPowerSupplyUnit(PartNo.NEOS-PSU),
connecttheM12cablefromthePowerSupplyUnittothebarandensurethatthe
supplementarygroundwireisconnectedtotheinstallationprotectiveearthbefore
connectingmainspower.
Ifusingaseparate24VPowerSupplyandCable(e.g.aspartofamachinecontrol
cabinetinstallation),followtheinstructionsinSection5.2forconnectingthebar.

Itisrecommendedthatatype‘T’or‘gG’fuseisused.
The0Vsupplyconnectionmustbeconnectedtotheinstallationprotectiveearth
(PE).Thisconnectionshouldbemadeatthepowersupplyoutputterminalif
possible.Thereisnoadditionalgroundingconnectiontothebar–itisessentialthat
thisconnectionismadeexternally.

UsetheIntelligenceControlrotaryswitchtoselectManualorIntelligentoperation.
InManualmode,thebarproducesionisationpurelydeterminedbythesettingof
theDistanceControlrotaryswitch.
InIntelligentmode,thebarcontinuouslyassessesthestateofthechargeonthe
webandmodiestheoperatingparametersofthebartogiveoptimalionisation
underallconditions.Itadjuststhepolarity,dutycycleandfrequencyoftheion
emissiontosuittheapplication.
TheIntelligencesettingcandoubletheneutralisationpowerofaXIFOS33barin
Manualmode.XIFOS33Intelligencemonitorsthechargeinthetargetandadjusts
theionemissiontoachievefasterneutralisation.Therearepracticallimitstothe
sensingcapabilityoftheXIFOS33-iftheelectriceldisweakoratalongdistance
itwillbemoredifculttomonitor.

ThefactorysettingsfortheXIFOS33areIntelligenceONandDistanceControl
position2.Thisgivesintelligentoperationatmediumdistances.
Thissettingcanbechangedtomeettheactualrequirementsoftheinstallation.
Typicalreasonsforthiscouldbe:
1. Distance
TheXIFOS33intelligencelosessensitivitywithdistance,especiallyifthestatic
chargelevelisnothigh.TheDistancesettingscorrespondtothedistancetothe
objecttobeneutralised.Seethedistancechartforguidance.
2. Installation
IftherearemetalpartsinthetargetareaorclosetotheXIFOS33bar,thesecould
interferewiththesensing-givingitmisleadinginformation.

Beforeturningonthebarforthersttime,check:
• Thepositioningandmountingofthebarisinaccordancewiththeinstructions
giveninSection3andSection4ofthisdocument.
• Theelectricalinstallationofthebarhasbeencompletedinaccordancewiththe
instructionsgiveninSection5ofthisdocument.Inparticular,ensurethatthe0V
outputofthe24Vsupplyisconnectedtotheinstallationprotectiveearth.
• IfusingtheexternalAC-DCpowersupply,makesurethatthesupplementary
groundingwireisconnectedtotheinstallationprotectiveearth.
• MakesuretheDistanceandIntelligencecontrolsarecorrectlyset.SeeSection7.
• Anyoperatorswhowillworkincloseproximitytothebarareawareofits
presenceandfamiliarwithitsoperation.
Warning!
Always disconnect the power before working on the bar.
• Cleaningistheonlymaintenancerequired.Dirtaroundtheemitterswillreduce
ionisationeffectivenessandresultinunsatisfactorystaticneutralisation
performance.
• Thefrequencyofcleaningwilldependontheprocessandtheenvironmentin
whichthebarisinstalled.Thebarshouldbecleanedwhen‘CleanMe’isindicated
bytheendcapLEDsand/ortheremotemonitoringinterface.
• OurFrasercleaningkit(PartNo.81220)isidealforuse,alternativelya
toothbrushornailbrushcanbeused.Donotuseawirebrushasthiscould
damagethebar.
• ThebarcanbewashedwithsoapywaterorIsopropylalcohol(IPA),butitmustbe
dryaroundtheemittersbeforeturningthepoweron.
• Pleasenote,whenhandlingandcleaning,thattheemitterpinsaresharpandcare
isneeded!
• Theemitterpinsareshockless-thereisalargeresistorbeloweachemitter
reducingthecurrenttoashocklesslevel.HoweverpleasenotethatDCcurrent
cantransferchargetoabodyifitistouchingorclosetoanemitterforalonger
period.Thiscouldgiveashockwhendischarging.
• TheemittersontheXIFOS33barshouldbereplacedeverytwoyearsorwhen
worn.Pleaseusetheemitterkeysuppliedwiththebartoremove/replace.

11.1 Signalling
TheXIFOS33barfeaturestwoPLCType1,2and3compatibleoutputstoenable
remotemonitoringofthebarstatus,andaDISABLEinputtoallowtheHVsupplies
tobeexternallydisabledwhennotrequired(‘Standby’mode).Forexample,thebar
canbelinkedintothesafetyinterlocksystemofthemachinetoensureoperator
safetyduringchangeoverperiods.
