Introduction
Before Operating Your Unit
Make sure the wiring is adequate for your unit.
If you have fuses, they should be of the time delay type. Before you install or relocate this unit, be sure that
the amperage rating of the circuit breaker or time delay fuse does not exceed the amp rating listed in figure 1.
DO NOT use an extension cord.
The cord provided willcarry the proper amount ofelectricalpowerto the unit; an extension cordwillnot.
Make sure that the receptacle is compatible with the wall plug provided.
Thisinsures proper grounding. If you have a two-prongreceptacle you willneed to have the circuit replaced
by a certified electrician with a grounded circuit that meets all national and local codes and ordinances. You
must use the three-prong plug furnished with the air conditioner.

Keep the filter clean
Make sure that your air conditioner is always in top performing condition by cleaning the filter regularly.
Instructionsfor removing and cleaningthe filter can be found on page 6.
Provide good airflow
Make sure that the airflowto and from the unit is dear. Your air conditioner puts the air out at the top of
the unit, and takes in air at the bottom. Airflow is critical for good operation. It is just as important on the
outside ofthe building that the airflow around the unit exterior is not blocked.
Unit Placement
If your air conditioner can be placed in a windowor a wallthat is shaded by a tree or another building,the
unit will operate even more efficiently. Using drapes or blinds on the sunny side of the dwelling will also
add to your unit's efficiency.
Insulation
Good insulation will be a big help in maintaining desirable comfort levels. Doors should have weather
stripping. Be sureto caulk around doors and windows.

How to operate your Friedrich
The controls willlook like the following.
Control and Remote Control Operations
TEMPERATURE SETTING
•Thesebuttonscontrolthe temperature

60°F to86°F, in incrementsof I°F.
MONEY SAVER

OPERATION MODE SELECTOR
• Everytimeyoupushthisbutton,itwill rotate betweentheCOOL,
FANand DRYmodes.

ON-Whentheairconditionerisoff,itcanbe settoautomatically
comeon in 1to 12 hoursat its previoussetting.Eachtouchwill
setthe timerin hours.
OFF-Whentheair conditionerison, itcanbe set toautomatically
turn off in 1 to 12hours. Eachtouchwill setthetimer in hours.
After thetimer hasbeenon for 30 minutes,thetemperaturewill
automaticallyrise2°F,and afteranother30 minutes,itwill
automaticallyrise2°F again.Thetemperaturewillthenstaythe
sameuntilthetimer goesOFF.
To cancel the timer, pressthe TIMERpad untilthe displaytime
disappears.

How to Insert Batteries
1. Remove the cover from the back of the remote
controller
2. Insert two batteries.
• Be sure that the (+) and (-) directions are correct.
• Be sure that both batteries are new.
3. Re-attach the cover.
• Do not use rechargeable
batteries. Such batteries
differ from standard dry
cells in shape, dimensions,
and performance.
• Remove the batteries from
the remote controller if the
air conditioner is not going
to be used for an extended
length of time.

Air Direction
• ADJUSTING THEAIR DIRECTION USING THE HORIZONTAL AIR-DEFLECTOR CONTROL
Using the control tabs, the air flow can be directed __llm_"
to the left, right, straight ahead, or any combination
of these directions.
Care and Maintenance
TURN THE AIR CONDITIONER OFF AND REMOVE THE PLUG FROM THE POWER OUTLET.
•TO CLEAN FILTER
The air filter will become dirty as it removes
dust from the inside air.
It should be washed at least every 2 weeks.
If the air filter remains full of dust, the air
flow will decrease and the cooling capacity
will be reduced, possibly damaging the unit.
1. Pull the inlet grille forward and pull out the
air filter. (Fig. 1)
2. Wash the air filter in warm water.
Be sure to shake off all the water before
replacing the filter.

•CLEANING THE AIR CONDITIONER
The front grille and Inlet grille may be wiped with a
cloth dampened in a mild detergent and lukewarm
water solution. (Fig. 2)
The cabinet may be washed with mild soap or
detergent and lukewarm water. Fig. 2
To ensure continued peak efficiency, the condenser
coils(outside of unit) should be checked
periodically and cleaned if clogged with soot or
dirt from the atmosphere.

•HOW TO REMOVE THE FRONT GRILLE
1. Pull the inlet grille forward.
2. Removethe screw securing the Front Grille. (Fig. 3)
3. Pushthe grille up from the bottom and pull the top of the
grille away from the caseto lift the top tabs out oftheir
slots. (Fig. 4)
4. Carefully position the grille, bottom first, and snap back into
place.
5. Repositionthe screwthat secures the front grille and replace
the knobs.

Installation Instructions
Window Requirements
NOTE:All supporting parts should be secured to firm wood, masonry, or metal.
1. This unit is designed for installation in standard double hung windows with actual opening widths of
22"to 36". The upper and lowersash must open sufficiently to allow a clear vertical opening of 14"
from the bottom of the sash to the window sill.
2.If stormwindow presents interference, fasten a 2" widewood strip (OUTER SILL) to the inner
window sillacross the full width of the sill.The wood strip should bethick enough to raise the height
of the window sill so that the unit can be installed without interference by the storm window frame.
See Fig. 5-2. Top of wood strip should be approximately 3/4" higher than the storm window frame
(STORM WINDOW FRAME)or wood strip (OUTDOORS) to help condensation to drain properlyto
the outside.
3. Installa second wood strip (approximately 6" long by 11/2"wide and same thickness asfirst strip) in
the center of the outer sill flush against the back off the inner sill. This will raisethe L bracket as
shown Fig. 5-2.
4. If the distance between STORMWINDOW FRAMEand WOOD STRIP MOUNTEDON TOPOF
INNER SILL is more than 1",two of wood stripare not necessary.
