General
1. Cancelling a false Distress alert
If distress signals have been transmitted inadvertently, it must be informed to the nearest coast station or
an appropriate coast earth station or RCC by possible means that the signals has been erroneously
transmitted and they are canceled. Cancel the signals on all the radio frequency bands in which the
signals have been transmitted by using the procedure below.
1.Turn off power for the MF/HF radiotelephone and DSC immediately.
2. Turn on the power again, and set the MF/HF radiotelephone at the distress and safety
frequencies in the frequency bands in which the distress signals are transmitted. Refer to the
table below.
If a distress signal has been transmitted at 2187.5 kHz in MF band, set the radiotele-
phone at the distress and safety frequency in MF band, J3E: 2182.0 kHz.
3. Make broadcast to “All stations” giving name of vessel, callsign and DSC number, and cancel
the false distress aleart.

2. Chacking after installation

3. Find MMSI No. of the ship, check the specification of the DSC, MF or MF/HF, and check
the remote station function setting, ON or OFF.

There are two kinds of settings: one is made through [#SETUP] menu and the other is made with DIP
switches. Refer to Page 4-4 and 4-17.
1.All the daily test results are OK? Refer to [DAILY TEST] on Page 5-2.
2. MMSI No. is set correctly? Refer to [System setup] on Page 4-14.
3. The position data on DSC stanby screen are entered correctly? Refer to [Position setup] on
Page 4-8 and [Setting for connection with navigational aids] on Page 4-19.

Chapter 1 Overview
1. Overview
The DSC-60 functions as ;
- Class-A MF or MF/HF DSC terminal
- MF or MF/HF DSC watch keeping receiver *
- MF/HF DSC general watch keeping receiver (Option) *
-Remote control unit of MF/HF radiotelephone and intercomm (Handset is optional.)
Power supply,which operates within +30% and -10% of rated 24V DC, is equipped with overvoltage
and over-current protectors, and uses a self-resetting polymer switch instead of fuse and breaker.A
rectifier (PR-300: Optional) is required forAC power supply.
Optionalprinter PP-510 can print all sent and received messages, communication log, registered files,
and results of daily test.
Whenan MF/HF radiotelephone which supportsIEC-61162-1commandin additionto MIF command
isconnected,remote control is enabled from DSC-60.

The DSC-60 satisfies MSC.68(68) revised by RESOLUTION A. 806(19) :
- Contents of received call displayed on two or more lines in 160 or more characters.
- Automatic updating of own ship position and time from navigational equipment.
- Manual input of own ship position and time.
- Alarm generated when there is no data received from navigational equipment and no
manual position updating for more than 4 hours.
- Clear position data when it is not updated longer than 23.5 hours.
- These messages should be stored until readout and should be erased 48 hours after their
reception.
With the DSC general watch keeping receiver board, communication by radiotelephone and NBDP is
enabled by the MF/HF radiotelephone while watching DSC distress, safety and general frequencies.
If DSC general watch keeping receiver board is not insallted, DSC general frequency is watched by
the MF/HF radiotelephone, and it cannot be watched during communication by radiotelephone and
NBDP.
