IMPORTANT CABLE INFORMATION: Substantial power loss and
reduced battery operation time results from inverters installed with
cables that are not able to supply full power. Symptoms of low
battery power can result from cables that are either excessively
long or insufficient gauge. The installer/operator should be
especially aware of the requirements to maintain secure, tight,
electrical connections and provide strain relief for DC cables and
appliance wiring. Cable insulation must be appropriate type for
the environment.

a) Over Input Voltage Shut Off- When the 12 volt DC power
supply voltage exceeds 15.5±0.5 volts, the inverter will
automatically shut down.
b) Low Input Voltage Shut Off - When the 12 volt DC power
supply voltage drops below 10.5±0.3volts, the inverter will

Output Waveform
a) The AC output waveform of the inverter is known as
"modified sine wave." The waveform is similar to the sine
wave shape of utility power. This type of waveform is suitable
for most AC loads, including linear and switching power
supplies used in electronic equipment, transformers,
and motors.
b) The modified sine wave produced by the inverter has an RMS
(root mean square) voltage of 115 volts, which is the same as
standard household power. Most AC voltmeters (both digital
and analog) are sensitive to the average value of the
waveform rather than the RMS value. They are calibrated for
RMS voltage under the assumption that the waveform
measured will be a pure sine wave. These meters will not
read the RMS voltage of a modified sine wave correctly. They
will read about 20 to 30 volts low when measuring the output
of the inverter. For accurate measurement of the output
voltage of this unit, use a true RMS reading voltmeter such as
a Fluke 179, Fluke 79 III series, Beckman 4410 or Triplett 4200.

CONNECTING/OPERATING THE INVERTER
When connecting the unit, please be sure to follow the guidelines,
cautions and warnings mentioned in this manual. The inverter
should only be connected to a battery with an output of 12V with
the DC clamp cables. No devices should be plugged into the
inverter until the inverter is properly connected and the inverter’s
power indicator is active.
Please Follow The Following To Connect Your Inverter:
1) Check to be sure the inverter's ON/OFF Power Switch is in the
OFF position and that no flammable fumes are present.
2) Attach the ring type connector marked with red to the red (+)
DC terminal and the ring connector marked with black to the
black (-) DC terminal on the inverter.
•CAUTION:
Reversing the polarity will damage the inverter and void
the warranty.
3) Tighten the nut on each DC terminal by hand until it is snug.
Do not over-tighten.
4) Attach the black (-) clip to the black (-) battery terminal.
5) Attach the red (+) clip to the red (+) battery terminal. Make
sure both clips are securely connected to the battery
terminals, as a loose connection will cause the voltage to
drop and may cause the cables to overheat, resulting in
equipment damage or fire.
6) For models with Ground Terminals, attach ground wire to
vehicle chassis (for in-vehicle installations), minimum 16AWG
wire. For out-of-vehicle applications, attach to battery
negative terminal. CAUTION: NEVER attach ground wire
directly to inverter Negative Terminal! This will not provide
proper ground.
InverterManual_012411.indd 14 1/31/11 8:43:21 AM

15
7) Ensure that all electrical connections have been tightened
and turn on the inverter.
8) Plug the AC product(s) you wish to operate into the AC
outlet(s) and switch them on one at a time.
(See caution before turning on the AC products).
•CAUTION:
As the battery is used, its voltage begins to fall. When the inverter
senses that the voltage at its DC input has dropped to the range
of 10.7-11,3V DC, an audible alarm sounds. This allows time for
computers or other sensitive devices to be shut down. If the
audible alarm is ignored, the inverter will automatically shut
down when the voltage drops to the range of 10.2-10.8V DC,
preventing the battery from being over-discharged. Turn off any
devices that the inverter is powering. When input voltage rises to
11.7V-12.3V DC, inverter restores back to normal. Although the
inverter incorporates protection against over-voltage, it may still be
damaged if the input voltage exceeds 16 volts.
•CAUTION:
Most vehicle batteries are designed to provide short period of very
high current for starting the engine. They are not designed for a
constant “deep discharge.” Constantly operating the unit from a
vehicle battery until the low voltage shut off will affect the life of
the battery. If you are operating electrical products for extended
periods of time, you should consider connecting the unit to a
separate deep discharge battery.
•CAUTION:
The cable sizes given are a general recommendation. Before
beginning each specific installation, you should always consult
your National Electrical Code. Check for loose connectors. Check
to make sure you have not reversed the polarity.

16
Permanent Installation (1000,1500,2000 and 3000W Models)
The permanent installation of the inverter and the required wiring
and safety devices to the 12 Volt DC power source must be
performed by a professional installer.
Further Requirements Are:
• Theinverterissuppliedwith(4)crimpconnectorsfor
connecting the power source wiring to the inverter's DC input
terminals. They are designed to be crimped onto #2AWG
copper conductor cables (not supplied).
• The #2AWG power source cables must not exceed 6ft. in
length.
• Aminimumof#16AWG insulated wire should be connected
between the grounding terminal on the inverter and the vehicle
chassis.
•CAUTION:
Do not connect this wire to the inverter's negative (Black, -) DC
input terminals.
•CAUTION:
Violation of these requirements may result in unsafe operation
and/or equipment failure. Damage to the inverter as a result of
improper installation voids the warranty. The DC power source
must be a well-regulated DC power supply as typically found in
vehicle and deep-cycle marine batteries. The DC power source
may also be two 12 volt batteries connected in parallel. On
larger applications the power source may be several batteries
connected in parallel as shown in the following "Permanent
Battery Configuration" diagram on page 28.

17
•CAUTION: Connection To Load
The inverters are equipped with dual standard North American
three-prong type outlets. Plug the cord from the equipment
you wish to operate into the AC receptacle(s). Check that the
combined load requirement of your equipment does not exceed
maximum continuous power of the inverter. Do not connect
the inverter to household's or RV's AC distribution wiring. Do not
connect the inverter to any AC load circuit in which the neutral
conductor is connected to ground or to the negative of the DC
(battery) source.
•WARNING: Do not connect to any AC distribution wiring!
Connecting To The USB Charging Port
1) Connect the inverter to a 12 Volt DC power source describe in
the instruction manual. Check if there is adequate space for
proper ventilation of the inverter.
2) Press the power button to turn the unit ON.
3) The green power LED Indicator will light, indicating a
proper connection. If either the red LED indicator lights or
the alarm sounds, an error condition exists. Refer to the
"Troubleshooting" section of this instruction manual.
4) If the inverter does not work make sure the ignition/accessory
switch is actually powering the accessory outlet. Some
vehicles require the ignition switch to be turned on.
5) Plug the USB-powered device into the inverter's USB charging
port and operate normally. Remember to disconnect the
inverter from any power source when not in use.
