dishwashers.Othertypeswill
cause Oversudsing.
Second, deck the phosphate
content. Phosphatehelpsprevent
hard-waterinateriakfrom forming
spotsor filmon yourdishes.If
yourwaterishard (7grainsor
more),yourdetergenthasto work
harder.Detergentswithahigher
phosphatelevelwillprobablywork
better.If thephosphatecontentis
low(8.7070or less),you’llhaveto
useextradetergentwithhard
water.

you how hardyour wateris. So
can yourrural countyagent.Or
your area’swatersoftenercom-
pany.Just calland askthemhow
many “grains” of hardnessisin
your water.
How muchdetergentshouldyou
use?That depends.Isyourwater
“hard” or “soft?” Withhard
water,you needextradetergentto
getdishesclean.With soft water,
you needlessdetergent.
Too muchdetergentwithsoft
water not onlywastesmoney,it
can beharmful. It cancausea

to find out the hardnessof your
water.
Keepyour detergent fresh and
dry. Under the sinkisn’tagood
placeto store detergent.Too much
moisture. Don’t put detergentinto
the dispenseruntilyou’rereadyto
wash dishes,either.(Rwon’t be
fresh OR dry.)
If your detergent getsold or
lumpy, throw it away.It won’t
wash well.Old detergentoften
won’t dissolve.
