NOTE: Following contents are generally related to all
Mondial folder configurations. the figures are for
illustration purposes only and may not depict the specific
model you are installing.
Convention Notes
This manual uses two positional conventions for illustration purposes.
The first is paper path orientation, that is left and right direction is as
the paper moves from the printer through the folder. The second is the
operator viewing position and is a normal left right orientation. See
Figure 3.
Folding Style Comprehension
All folds are from left to right. For example, Figure 1 shows a folded
print with the title block on the trailing edge (position T2) and Figure 2
shows the title block on the leading edge (position T1). In both
illustrations folding is from left to right irrespective of the title block
location.
FIGURE 1 FIGURE 2
Display Comprehension
The Mondial technical documentation references the folder sides first
and secondly, the direction of paper flow from the printer exit to the
folded output print conveyor.
In this documentation and only in this manual the operator message
display is inverted for readability (see figure 3).

Reference Information
To help you understand the Folder, some of the commonly used terms
and concepts are explained below.
Folded Print Dimensions
(a) Fan Fold
This is the first fold.
(b) Cross Fold
This is the second fold and is at a
right angle to the first fold.
(c) Coverage or Last Panel
(m) Margin
Area used for punching and/or
binding prints to facilitate storage.
(p) Panel

Rotation Table (option only for Mondial B3,B4)
The Rotation Table increases the printer capability in that A1 ISO / D
ANSI-Arch Short Edge and A2 ISO- / C ANSI-Arch Long Edge can be
printed from the same media roll (22”-594mm-24”).
When this optional bridge rotation feature is installed, the print
orientation can be physically turned or rotated 90 degrees in the
clockwise direction. This is performed automatically to facilitate
folding specific output package styles.
The Rotation Table enables the Printer to effectively have an extra
virtual media roll. The Rotation Table allows printing of A2/C Long
edge from the A1/D media roll to be rotated and folded correctly.
The dimensions below are intended for
the size as it exits the printer before the
rotation. (Illustrated at the right)

Media Definitions
The folder was designed to operate with bond paper (ordinary), 18-
22lbs (75-100gsm). Paper not meeting this specification will result in
poor folding performance and an increased occurrence of jams.
All non-Bond (ordinary paper) Media delivered by the printer will not
be folded but will be automatically bypassed. Mylar or Polyester Film
should not be allowed to enter the folder. This will cause a jam and may
result in equipment damage.
The number and placement of folds is based on the type of fold selected
and the paper size. Refer to the Folding Style Reference Charts for
details on how the folds will look.
NOTE: Optimum folder performance is realized with
normal line drawing prints. Continued use of high toner
concentration and solid areas cause internal contamination
and will result in lower reliability and performance.

Short Edge and Long Edge Definitions
The prints exit from the printer in two orientations:
SHORT EDGE
LONG EDGE
The prints enter the Bridge Transport and then into the Fan Folder in
the same orientation.
With the optional Bridge Rotation the C/A2 size prints that exit the
printer Long Edge, are rotated by the Bridge Transport and enter into
the Fan Folder with the Short Edge leading.
For the above reason it is important to understand the distinction
between the print’s orientation as it exits from the printer and when it
enters into Fan Folder.
The word “Leading”
is used when
referring to prints as
they exit from the
printer.
SEL
(Short Edge Leading)

The word “Feeding”
is used when
referring to prints as
they enter the fan
folder.

Title Block Position Definitions
The Title Block can be located in four different corners of the print as
shown in the illustration below.
The Title Block position number is always relative to the feeding
direction indicated by the arrow.
The two symbols “A” and “B” will be used throughout this manual to
indicate where the Title Block is and when it is necessary to locate the
Title Block to obtain the correct folding operation.
This will help to understand the operation of the Folder.
The symbol (A) is used when prints require fan folding and the symbol
(B) when prints require cross folding.
Figure 4 Title Block Location

September 2014 Mondial Folder Operator Manual 10
Folded Package Output Orientation Definitions
Depending on the Title Block Location the folder will fold with two
different Folded Package Output Orientations.
All prints entering the Folder with the Title block in
position 2 with 2 cross folds will be delivered in the
Flat Basket with the title page “Face Down” as in
illustration on right side
All prints entering the folder with the Title block in
position 2 with no cross folds, one cross fold or C
cross fold will be delivered in the Flat Basket with the
title page “Face Up”as in illustration on right side.
Output Style Definitions
The folder folds all prints into an A/A4 size
where the Title block appears aligned to the
shortest edge of the folded package (1) or
aligned to the longest edge of the folded
package (2)
The print that exits as shown in illustration
(1) is called “Portrait Style” where a<b

Parameters to Input to the System
The printing system controller should be directed to deliver the print
oriented with the title block position according to the Basic Mondial
Folder Rules to insure that the selected fold style is correctly folded.
Refer to Title Block Position Definitions
To input this data into the system follow the procedure outlined in
“How to Determine Document Title Block Corner”.
Basic Mondial Folder Rules
- B05,B1,B2,B3,B4: Title Block position 2
General
Preferred document
input orientation is
Short Edge -Butterfly: Title Block position 4
Exceptions
ALL versions: A4/A are fed into the folder LEF with any Title
Block location (Title Block 4 if Butterfly with 6705 printer)
B2,B3,B4: C/D Ansi folded with Program 8½ Landscape and
C/D Arch folded with Program 9 Landscape are fed into the
folder LEF Title Block 3 while is not accepted SEF.
BUTTERFLY:A2/C, A1/D with Programs 210, 8½ and 9 are
fed LEF with Title Block 1 (Title Block 3 if Butterfly with
6705 printer) or SEF with Title Block 4
B2,B3,B4, BUTTERFLY: A2 Afnor folded with Program
AFNOR are fed into the folder LEF with Title Block 3
B2,B3,B4, BUTTERFLY: A0 Afnor folded with Program
AFNOR are fed into the folder SEF with Title Block 1
B2,B3,B4, BUTTERFLY (excluded 6705 version): A2, A1, A0
folded with Program INVERSE DIN are fed into the folder
SEF with Title Block 3
For ISO, ANSI, and Arch. documents fed into the folder the title block
must be visible on corner 2 (4 if Butterfly with 6705 printer), A0 Inverse DIN
and A0,A1 AFNOR documents the title block must be visible on corner 1
(B3, B2, Butterfly)or 3 (B4, Butterfly with 6705).
Special Sizes
The Mondial Series Folder processes nearly all sizes with all folding
styles. However, some folding styles require, for a better result, a
specific size as described below.
The A0/E AFNOR folded 8½ and 9 Landscape can be used with
AFNOR and ISO documents. See Document Sizes Reference Chart
To obtain a perfect AFNOR or landscape that can be folded
precisely 4 times folded print use only sizes with perfect
dimensions (±2mm).
Title Block Face Delivery
The title block face delivery is dependant upon the selected folding
program. See Folded Package Output Orientation Definitions.
Long Print Folding
Long prints can be folded up to 6 meters/ 20 feet in accordance with the
chart on page 30. This chart defines the number of panels vs. paper
weight that can be folded. These prints will be fan folded up to these
limits with the remaining delivered unfolded to be completed by hand.
Note, any prints that are submitted over the maximum limit above will
be delivered unfolded.
