WARNING!
ExpansioncardscontainverydelicateIntegratedCircuit(IC)chips.Toprotectthemagainst
damage fromstaticelectricity,youshouldfollowsomeprecautionswheneveryou workonyour
computer.
1.Turnoffyourcomputerand unplug powersupply.
2.Useagrounded wriststrap beforehandling computercomponents.Ifyoudo nothaveone,touch
bothofyourhandstoasafelygrounded objectortoametalobject, suchasthe powersupply
case.
3.Placecomponentsonagrounded antistaticpadoronthebag thatcamewiththe components
wheneverthe componentsareseparated fromthe system.
Thecardcontainssensitiveelectriccomponents,whichcan be easilydamaged bystaticelectricity
,sothe cardshouldbe leftinitsoriginalpacking untilitisinstalled.
Unpackingandinstallationshouldbedoneonagroundedanti-staticmat.Theoperatorshouldbe
wearingananti-staticwristband,grounded atthe samepointasthe anti-staticmat.
Inspectthe cardcarton forobviousdamage.Shipping and handlingmaycausedamage toyour
card.Besuretherearenoshippingand handlingdamagesonthecardbeforeproceeding.

Installing YourGraphicscard..
Nowthatyou haveprepared yourcomputer,you arereadytoinstall yourgraphics
acceleratorcard.
Toinstall yourgraphics acceleratorcard
1.Poweroff thecomputerandmonitor,thendisconnectthe displaycablefromthe
backofyourcomputer.
2.Removethe computercover.Ifnecessary,consultyourcomputer'smanualforhelp
inremoving the cover.
3.Removeanyexisting graphicscardfromyourcomputer.
Or,ifyourcomputerhasanyon-boardgraphics capability,you mayneed todisableit ...
onthe motherboard.Formoreinformation,seeyourcomputerdocumentation.

4.Locatethe AGPslot. Ifnecessary,removethe metalcoverfromthisslot;then align
yourGraphicscardwiththeAGPslot, andpress itinfirmlyuntil the cardisfully
eated.
5.Replacethescrewtofasten thecardinplace,andreplacethecomputercover.
6.Plug thedisplaycableintoyourcard;then turnonthe computerand monitor.
You arenowreadytoproceed withthe installation oftheGraphics carddriver.Fordetailed
instructions,selectyouroperatingsystemfromthelistbelow:

Inthismanual, weassumethatyourCD-ROMDrive lettertobeDrive D:
3.1.WINDOWS®98 /98SE orWINDOWSME/WINDOWSXP DRIVER
AND UTILITIES INSTALLATION
The installation ofWin98/98SE /WinME/WinXP driversisverysimple.
When you insertthe driverCD intoyourCD-ROMdrive,you can see the AUTORUN
window(ifitdoesnotshowup,run "D:\setup.exe").Thenyou can followguidestosetup
yourAV64S-Tdriver(Pleasefollowthe subsection3.1.3"StepByStepInstallation"to
install the driverforyourgraphics accelerator.
3.1.1.Operatingsystemrequirement
lIf yourOSisMicrosoftWindows,when loading the AV64S-Tdriversforthe
system,pleasemakesureyoursystem(Windows98/98SEorWindowsME)has
installed DirectX8.1orlater.
lIf youinstall the AV64S-Tdriversforthe mainboard,which
consistofSIS,ALIorVIAchipsets,pleaseinstall theappropriateDriverprogramfor
thatmainboard.OrpleasecontactyourmotherboardnearestdealerforM/BDiver.

InstallMicrosoft DirectX8.1toenable3Dhardwareacceleration supportforWin98/98SE or
WinMEtoachievebetter3Dperformence.
Note:ForsoftwareMPEGsupportinWin98/98SE orWinME,youmustDirectXfirstinstall.

Thefollowing isthe step-by-stepinstallation guide.
Step1:NewHardwareFound
AfterAV64S-Tisinsertedintoyourcomputeratthefirsttime,thewindowswillautomatically
detectanewhardwareinthe systemand pop outa"NewHardwareFound"message.
Pleaseselect"Donotinstall adriver"and press OK.
Step2:UpdateDevice DriverWizard:StandardPCIGraphics Adapter(VGA)
Step3:UpdateDevice DriverWizard:Finish
Atthistime,systemwill ask foryourWindowsCD inordertocompletethe VGAdriver
installation.
If you don'thavetheCD,you can pressC:\Windows\Systemdirectory.
Step4:SystemSetting Change
1.Click "Next“icon.
2..Click "Finish“icon.
MDon’tclick “Cancel”,because
the systemwill hang ifyou press it.

Afterthe systemhasfinished loading,inserttheAV64S-TdriverCD disk intoyourCD-
ROM,and then you can see the AUTORUNwindow.If itdoesnotshowup,pleaserun

The utilitiesinclude DisplayDriverand V-Tunerutilities.Pleasebrowsethe driverCD for
detail.
Afterinstallation ofthe displaydrivers,youwill findan GBTicon onthe taskbar’sstatus
area.Right-clicking thisicon opensthe GBTcontrolpanel,showing amenu composedof
shortcuteofthegraphicsboard’senhancedandotherfunctions.
Youmayclickthe “DisplayProperties”item,andthenclick Settings.Click “Advanced”after
clickngSettings.Click theappropriatetabtochange yourdisplaysettings.
You canlinktoGBTweb site
forupdatedinformationabout

drivers,andotherinformation.

You can click the itemtochange the
colordepth.
You can movethe slidertothe
changeresolution.

disablesthe ATItaskbaricon.However,thisfeature
mustbe enabled forATIhotkeysupport.

nOptimizationPreference
lQualityallowsyou tooptimizeyourOpenGLsettingsforquality.
lPerformance allowsyou tooptimizeyourOpenGLsettingsforperformance
nOpenGLSettings
lConvert32bittexturesto16 bitallowsyoutoincreasevideo performanceforgames
thatmakeheavyuseoftextures.Howeverthiscouldalsoreduceimage quality.
lEnableKTXbufferregionextension enablesrapidupdatesofthoseportionsofyour
screenthathavebeenmoved.
lEnablepageflipping allowsyoutoenablehardwareaccelerationofpageflippingto
swap fullscreen buffers.
lForce 16-bitZ-buffering allowsyou todisableallotherformatsofZ-bufferand utilizes
16-bitZ-buffering.
lDisabledithering whenalphablending mayremoveartifactslefton the screen
whenbothdithering andalphablendingareenabled.
lWaitforverticalsynclowersthe framespersecondrateinfullscreen games
Howeverthiscan reducethe image tearing thatcanoccurwithhigherframerates.
lEnabletexturecompressionenablesand disablestexturecompression.
lFull Screenanti-aliasing allowsyou tosetthe leveloffull-screen anti-aliasing.This
will resultinan overall higherqualityimage withaslightreduction inperformance.

Direct3DDisplayProperties
TheDirect3Dpropertiespageallowsyou toadjusttheDirect3Dsettings.
D3DSettings
nWaitforverticalsyncallowsyou tolowerthe framerateoffull screen games.Thiswill
reduceimagetearingthatcan occurwithhigherframerates.
nW-buffersupportallowsyoutoenableordisableW-buffersupport. ItisrecommendthatW-
buffersupportshouldbedisabled forgamesthatdonotsupportthisfeature.
nCompressedtextureformatallowsyoutoenablesupportforDirectXcompressed texture
formats.Someapplicationscannothandletoo manytextureformats.Disablingcompressed
textureformatthe video driverceasestosupportthisfeature.
nAlternatepixelcentermayeliminateproblemswithsome3Dgamesthatdisplaysvertical.
andhorizontallinesaround texturesortextthatappearsincorrect. However,thissetting
shouldonlybe usedifyou areexperiencing thesesymptoms,asitmaycauseproblems
withothergames.
nZ-bufferbitdepthsallowsyou tosetthe Z-bufferbitrate.Bydefault16:24(16 and 24)is
selectedtoachieveoptimumperformance.
8-bitStencil allowsyou toadd 32-bitZ-bufferwith8bitsforstencil and 24 bitsfortheZ-buffer.
lAnisotropictexturefiltering allowsyoutosetalevelofanisotropictexturefiltering.
Thiswill resultinmuchhigherqualitytextureswithanegligiblereduction inperformance.
lLevelofDetail allowsyou tosetthe levelofmipmapped detail.
The Sharpsetting isrecommendedforlarger,moredetailed,mipmappingscenes.The
Fuzzysetting isrecommendedforsmaller,lessdetailed,mipmapping scenes.
