Safety Summary
GENERAL
The following general environmental, safety, and occupational health (ESOH) notices
supplement the specific warnings and cautions appearing elsewhere in this manual. They are
recommended precautions that must be understood and applied during operation and
maintenance of the equipment covered herein. Should situations arise that are not covered in the
general or specific safety precautions, the commanding officer or other authority will issue
orders as necessary to cover the situation. All maintenance operations shall comply with
OPNAVINST 5100.19: Navy Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Program Manual for
Forces Afloat or OPNAVINST 5100.23: Navy Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Program
Manual, as applicable.
KEEP AWAY FROM LIVE CIRCUITS
Operating personnel must observe safety regulations at all times. Do not replace components or
make adjustments inside equipment with a voltage supply turned on without specific orders from
appropriate authority.
DO NOT SERVICE ALONE
Personnel shall not, under any circumstances, reach inside or enter any enclosure to service or
adjust equipment except in the presence of someone who is capable of rendering aid.
USE CAUTION WHEN SERVICING LIVE EQUIPMENT
In general, use only one hand when servicing live equipment.
If a test meter is to be held or adjusted while voltage is being measured, ground the meter case
before starting measurement, and do not touch the live equipment or the personnel working on
live equipment while holding the meter.
RESUSCITATION
Personnel working with or near electrical equipment should be familiar with modern methods of
resuscitation. An approved poster illustrating the rules for resuscitation by mouth-to-mouth
method shall be prominently displayed. Posters may be obtained on request from the Bureau of
Medicine and Surgery.
HANDLING HEAVY EQUIPMENT
Personnel moving heavy equipment must ensure that proper lifting and handling equipment and
techniques are used.

SAFETY-2
INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE
Personnel must observe industrial hygiene requirements. Review requirements for appropriate
engineering controls and personal protective equipment (PPE) with the ship's safety officer, or
the maintaining activity's Industrial Hygiene department, to determine appropriate personal
protective equipment and waste handling procedures.
CONSUMABLE MATERIALS
Consumable materials (cleaners, etc) are potential submarine atmosphere contaminants and may
be toxic to personnel. Review requirements for appropriate stowage, engineering controls, and
personal protective equipment with Ship Safety Officer or Industrial Hygiene department for all
consumable materials used in performing the stated procedures.
Disposal of all non-metallic waste products (gaskets, etc) must be in accordance with approved
maintenance activity requirements and procedures. At-sea disposal must comply with
OPNAVINST 5090.1: Navy Environmental and Natural Resources Program Manual.

Unpackthemixerimmediatelyafterreceipt.Ifthemachineisfoundtobedamaged,savethepackagingmaterial
andcontactthecarrierwithinfteen(15)daysofdelivery.Immediatelycontactyoursourceoftheequipment.
You have no recourse for damage after fteen (15) days.

INSTALLATION
1. Readthismanualthoroughlybeforeinstallationandoperation.DONOTproceedwithinstallationand
operationifyouhaveanyquestionsordonotunderstandanythinginthismanual.Contactyourlocal
representativeorGloberst.
2. Removethecorrugatedboxfromtheskidbyremovingthebandsonthebox.NOTE:TheSP62PandSP80PL
areshippedinawoodencrate;onlytheboltsatthebottomofthecrate(allfoursides)needtoberemoved.
3. Carefullyunboltthemixerfromtheskidusingan11/16”or3/4”wrench.
4. Selectalocationforthemixerkeepingthesepointsinmind:
• Floororcountermustbelevel.
• Easyaccessformaintenanceandservice.
• Clearanceforoperatingcontrols,installingandremovingagitators,bowl,orattachments.
• Sufcientspaceforaddingingredientsduringmixingperiods.
• Ensurerearventilationoutletofmixerisnotblocked.
5. Useatleasttwootherpeopletotilttheunitandinstalltherubberfeet.
6. AboltdowntemplateandboltsareavailablefortheSP10,SP20,orSP25.ContactGlobeifneeded.
7. Inspectthemixertoensureallpartshavebeenprovided(i.e.bowl,beater,whip,anddoughhook).TheSP62P
onlyhasabowl,doughhook,andbowltruck.
8. Readtheelectricalinformationfoundonthedataplatelocatedattherearofthemachine.Theincoming
powershouldmatchtheratingonthedataplate.
CONNECTING TO ELECTRICAL POWER
Cord Connected Units: This machine is provided with a three-prong grounding plug. The outlet that
this plug is connected to must be properly grounded. If the receptacle is not the proper grounding type,
contact an electrician. Do not under any circumstances cut or remove the third ground prong from the
power cord or use any adapter plug. Never use an extension cord. Low amp supply could damage the
mixer or cause a re.

If the unit needs to be hard-wired, have a licensed electrician connect the unit to the power supply.
Three Phase Units:
You must conrm proper rotation of all 3 phase mixers prior to using the mixer. There
is a 50% chance your 3 phase mixer is properly rotating if you are using it on 3 phase
power.
1.Makesurethereisnotamixingtoolonthemixershaftandthebowlisempty.
2.Putthespeedleverononespeedandturntheuniton.
3.Makesurethelarge,grayplanetarycastingisgoinginthedirectionofthearrowon
themixerasyoustandinfrontofthemixer(clockwise).(Donotpayattentiontothe
shaftrotation.)Ifitistravelinginthewrongdirection,havealicensedelectricianswitch
theelectricalconnectionandretest.
9. CompletethewarrantycardandmailittoGlobeorregisteronlineatwww.globeslicers.com/warranty.asp.
10. Cleanthemixerpriortousingit.Followthecleaninginstructionsstartingonpage14.
NOTE:Itisnormalforthefactorytoapplyagenerousamountofgreaseinandonthemachine.
Excessgrease(brownincolor)willbeonallmetalsurfaces(e.g.topportionofbowlguard,speedcontrol,
bowlclamps,bowlliftlever,andattachmenthubthumbscrew).Excesshigh-pressuredgrease
(brownish-black)mayalsobefoundontheplanetaryshaftandsomedrippingsmaybefoundinthebowl.

ABOUT THE REMOVABLE BOWL GUARD (if applicable)
Thebowlguardcanberotatedorremovedtoaccommodatetheoperator’sfunction.Theinterlockingbowlguardis
easytoremoveandreattachforeasycleaninginasinkordishwasher.
NOTE:Whenguardisopenornotproperlyinstalled,themixerwillnotoperate.
NOTE:Rotatethebowlguardclockwise(open)andcounterclockwise(closed)to
attachagitatorstothemixer.
Opening / Rotating the Bowl Guard:
Rotatingthebowlguardclockwise(open)andcounterclockwise(closed),allowsthe
operatortoeasilyaddingredientsandproperlyremovetheagitatorandbowlfromthe
mixer.
1.Whentheseparatedhandlesarelineduptogetherandpushedsecurelytotheright
ofthemixer,thebowlguardisinthelockedpositionandreadytooperate(g.7-1)

2.Torotatethebowlguardtoitsopenposition,grasptheseparatedhandlesonthebowlguardandmovethem,
togetherasone,clockwisetoopen/rotatethebowlguard.Toclosethebowlguard,grasptheseparated
handlesandmovethemtogetherasone,counterclockwisetoclose/rotatethebowlguardbackintoalocked
position.
Removing and Attaching the Bowl Guard:
NOTE:Beforeremovingorattachingthebowlguard,makesurethebowlisinthedown/
loweredpositionandtheagitatortoolisofftheshaft.
1.Toremovethebowlguardforcleaning,pushthelowerpartoftheseparatedhandle
out(clockwise)dividingthehandleandreleasingtheguardfromtherotationring.

2.Onceseparated,takeholdofthelowerseparatedhandleandcontinueturningthe
guardclockwiseuntilthebowlguardreleasesfromtheringcatchonthemixer.

3.Toreattachthebowlguard,lineuptheringcatchontheleftofthemixer;lift
guardgentlyintoplaceandrotatetheguard’slowerhandlecounterclockwise
untilitsnapsbackintoplacewiththeupperpartofthehandle.
ATTACHING THE BOWL TO THE MIXER
NOTE:InstallthebowlBEFOREattachingtheagitator.
1. Lowerthebowlbypullingthebowlliftleverforwardanddowntoitsresting
position.FormodelsSP40andSP60rotatethebowlliftwheel
counterclockwiseuntilitstops.FortheSP62PandSP80PLpressthedown
arrow(bluebutton)tolowerthebowluntilitstops.
2. Liftthebowlbythebowlhandlesand:
a. slowlypositionthelockingpin(locatedontherearofthebowl)intotheholeinthe
middlerearofthecradle(seeg8-3).
b. lowerthebowlontothepinslocatedoneithersideofthebowlcradle.
3. Oncethebowlispositionedonthecradle,securethebowlbypullingeachbowlclamp
forwarduntilthebowlislockedtight(seeg8-4).

ATTACHING THE AGITATOR TO THE MIXER (i.e., Beater, Hook, Whip)
NOTE:Itiseasiertoinstalltheagitatorpriortoaddingtheingredientsintothebowl.
1. Rotatethebowlguardtotheleftsoitrestsintheopenposition(seeg9-1).
Excessiveforceusedtoopenandclosethebowlguardmaydamagethe
springlockandbowlguardmicroswitch,andwillvoidthewarranty.
2. Slidetheagitatorslowlyupwardsontotheplanetaryshaft,ttingtheshaftpinthroughthe
slotintheagitator(seeg9-2).
3. Rotatetheagitatorclockwisetosecureitontotheplanetaryshaft.
MIXING INGREDIENTS
Followthecapacitychartlocatedonpage16inthismanual.
Overloadingornotfollowingthischartwilldamagethemixerandvoid
thewarranty.
Agitatorsshouldalwaysrotateinaclockwisedirectionaroundthebowl.
Iftheagitatormovescounterclockwise,contactalicensedelectrician
immediatelytoremedyincorrectwiring.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the speed control lever is on the rst (1) speed.
1. Addtheappropriatemixingingredientsintothebowl.
2. Rotatethebowlliftleverupuntilthebowllocksintoposition.OntheSP40andSP60
rotatethebowlliftwheelclockwiseuntilthebowlisallthewayupintoposition.Forthe
SP62PandSP80PLpresstheuparrow(bluebutton)untilthebowlisupintoposition.
3. Rotatethebowlguardtotherightsoitlocksintotheclosedposition(seeg9-3).
Aclickingsoundwillbeheard.
NOTE: Themixerwillnotstartifthebowlguardisopenorthebowlisintheloweredposition.
SP62P and SP80PL mixer ownerers only: read through this section and continue to page 12 for further
operating instructions for use of the digital controls.
4. Setthetimerfortheappropriatemixingtimeorsetthemixerfornon-timedoperation.
a. Timed Operation: Turnthetimerknobinaclockwisedirectionatleastveminutespast“0”tothedesired
time.NOTE:Tosetthetimeforlessthanveminutes,turnthetimerknobclockwisetosixthen
counterclockwisebacktothedesiredtime.
b. Non-Timed Operation:Turnthetimerknobinacounterclockwisedirectiontothegreen“on”position.
NOTE:Heavyloadsshouldnotbemixedlongerthanfteen(15)minutesatthissettingwithoutanequal
amountofresttimeforthemixer.Failuretoadheretotheseinstructionsmaycausethemixerto
automaticallyshutoffduetooverloading.

5. Selecttheappropriatespeedsettingbyliftingorloweringthespeedcontrollever.Threexedspeedsare
availableforuse:rst(1),second(2),andthird(3).NOTE:TheSP62PhastwospeedsandtheSP80PLhas
fourxedspeeds.
GearSpeed ProductType/Ingredient
1(low) Heavy:mixingpizza,bread,pastaanddonutdoughs,wafe/cakebatter,mashingpotatoes
2(medium) Medium:2ndstageofmixingfordonutdough,etc.
3(high) Light:whippingcream,eggwhites,meringue
IMPORTANT: When mixing product always follow the recommended agitator and speed setting
according to the capacity chart located on page 16 of this manual.
6. Pressthegreenstartbuttonlocatedonthemiddleofthecontrolpanel.
Always STOP the mixer BEFORE changing speeds! Failure to do so may damage the
gears or other parts and WILL void the warranty!
7. Tochangethespeedwhilemixing:
a. presstheredstopbutton
b. changethespeedbyraisingorloweringthespeedcontrollever
c. pressthegreenstartbuttontorestartthemixer
NOTE: TheSP62PandSP80PLwillautomaticallyshutoffifthespeedischangedwhilethemixerisinoperation.
NOTE: Themixerisequippedwithamotoroverloadprotection.Ifthemixershutsoffduringoperation,reducethe
batchsizeand:
a. SP25andsmallermodels:Pressthestopbuttonthenpresstheoverloadresetbutton.
b. Largermodels:Waittwominutes.Pressthestopbutton,thenpressthestartbutton.
NOTE: 2ndspeedshouldneverbeusedon50%ARorlowerwiththeexceptionoftheSP60.TheSP60
requiresa50%reductioninbatchsizetomixinspeed2with50%ARdoughs.
NOTE: Reducebatchsizeby10%ifchilledour,waterbelow70°F,ice,orhighglutenourisused.
IMPORTANT: Forheavierloads,themixershouldnotrunlongerthanfteenminuteswithoutpausingforacool
downperiodofatleastfteenminutesormorebeforeresumingmixing.Forlighterloads,themixershouldnotrun
longerthanthirtyminuteswithoutpausingforacooldownperiodofatleastthirtyminutesormorebeforeresuming
mixing.
8. Whentheingredientshavebeenthoroughlymixed,presstheredstopbuttontostopthemixer.
NOTE:Ifthetimerwasused,themixerwillautomaticallystopwhenthetimehasexpired.
9. Lowerthebowlbypullingthebowlliftleverforwardanddowntoitsrestingposition.FormodelsSP40and
SP60,rotatethebowlliftwheelcounterclockwiseuntilitstops.FormodelsSP62PandSP80PL,pressthe
downarrow(bluebutton)untilthebowlstops.
10. Rotatethebowlguardtotheleftsoitisintheopenposition.
11. Removetheagitatorfromtheplanetaryshaftbyliftingitupwards,thenrotatingitcounterclockwiseuntilitis
unlocked.Lowertheagitatorandremovefromplanetaryshaft.

12. Pusheachbowlclampbackwardstounlockthebowlfromthebowlcradle.
13. Liftupslightlyonthebowlsoitclearsthepinsonthebowlcradle.
Most batches are heavy. Always use two people to remove and transport the loaded
bowl after mixing is complete. A bowl truck is included with the SP60, SP62P and
SP80PL models and should be used to unload bowls containing more than 50 lbs.
per batch.
HOW TO USE THE ATTACHMENT HUB
Never put your hand into the feed chute when using any mixer attachment.
ThemixermustbeOFFbeforeinstallingattachments!DoNOTuseattachmentswhilemixing!
1. Loosenandremovetheattachmenthubthumbscrew(seeg11-1).
2. Removetheplasticcoverfromtheattachmenthub(seeg11-1).
3. Lubricatetheattachmentshaftwithafoodqualitygreaseormineraloil.
4. Inserttheattachmentshaftintothehubmakingsuretolineupthealignmentpinwith
thehubhole.

8. Pressthegreenstartbuttonlocatedonthemiddleofthecontrolpanel.

9. Tochangethespeedwhileusingmixerattachments:
a. presstheredstopbutton
b. changethespeedbyraisingorloweringthespeedcontrollever

discontinuemixing.

TIMER MODE
1. TobeginoperatingthemixerinTIMERmode,press
theManual(MAN)button.
Ifstartingmixerforthersttime,orifpowerislost,the
TIMERdisplaywillonlyilluminateinallzeros“0”;otherwise,
itwilldisplaythelastmixingtimethatwasentered.
2. Selectthenumberofminutesandsecondsbyusingtheup
anddownarrowslocatedunderthetimerdigitaldisplay.
Therstsetofup-downarrowbuttonscontrolstheminutes
andthesecondsetofup/downarrowbuttonscontrolsthe
seconds.
Pressandcontinuouslyholdtheuparrowbuttonstothe
desiredminutesandseconds.Pressandcontinuouslyhold
ofthebuttonscrollsthroughthenumbercyclesquickly.(To
slowdowntheselectionandtobettercontrolthesetting
time,presstheupordownarrowbutton(Do
notcontinuouslyholdthebuttondown).

themixerhasnotyetnisheditssetmixingtime,themixingcyclecanbecontinuedfromwhereitleftoffbypressing
the“Start”button.
NOTE:Ifacycleisinterruptedbythebowlguardbeingopenedorthespeedofthemixerbeingchanged,themixer
willstop.Assoonasthefaultiscorrected,the“Start”buttoncanbepressedtocontinuetheprogrammedtime.
Toaddadditionalminutesorsecondstoamixtime,“Stop”themixer,press“TIMER”andadjustthecyclemixingtime.
Pressthe“Start”buttontobeginmixingonceagain.
5. Attheendofatimedmixingcyclethetimerwillcountdownto“00”minutesand“00”seconds,themixerwillstop,
andthetimerwillreturntodisplayingthelastmixcycletimethatwasentered.
6. Tobeginanothermixcyclewiththesamesettimeasthepreviousmix,pressthe“Start”button.
Ifthemixcycletimeneedstobeadjustedupordown,setthenewdesiredtimeandthenpressthe“Start”button
tobeginmixing.
Themixertimerwillalwaysresetbacktothelastmixtimethatwassetunlesstheplugorpowerisdisconnectedtothe
mixer.Ifpowerislosttothemixer,themixingtimewillneedtoberesettothedesiredtime.
