of trouble-free service.
You may already be familiar with using a DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player but do please take time to

Getting started
Remove your DVD/VCR/CD/MP3
Player carefully from the box. You
may wish to store the packaging
for future use.
In the box
Inside this package you should have:

Read these instructions before use.
Unless stated otherwise, all references to
buttons refer to the remote control.
Switching on
Mains power
Connect the 3-pin mains plug into the mains
socket and switch on.

When not in use, disconnect the mains plug
from the power socket.
The DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player will go to
standby mode with the LCD displaying --:--.
Standby
When the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3
Player is in standby mode, you can
press the Standby button on the
remote control to turn it on. The
display will show ON.
Alternatively, press the Standby/
On button or Select button on the
front of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3
Player. Either the DVD or VHS
LED will illuminate and the LCD
will show ON.
The DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player will switch
to Standby after 5 minutes with no tape or
disc loaded.
Do not leave the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player
on standby when unattended or overnight.
Switching off
Press the Standby/On button on
the front of the DVD/VCR/CD/
MP3 Player or the Standby button
on the remote control. Unplug from
the mains supply. The display will
show OFF.
Using the remote
control
Installing the batteries
Remove the battery cover. Insert two (AA)
size batteries in the compartment. Refer to
the diagram in the battery compartment for
correct installation of the batteries.
We recommend the use of Ever Ready
Energizer Batteries.
To use the remote control, point it at the
front of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player.
The sensor is to the left of the display
window.

The remote control will work up to 7 metres
from the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player and at
an angle of up to 60 degrees.
Do not block the path of the beam from the
remote to the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player.
Dark walls, direct sunlight or very bright light
will reduce the remote control sensitivity.

Child lock
When child lock is on, none of the buttons on
the front of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player
will operate.
Press the Standby button on the
remote control until the LCD shows
LOCK (about five seconds).
To release the child lock, press any button on
the remote control.
Switching the On
Screen Display (OSD)
On or Off
Press the VCR button on the remote
control to change to VHS mode.
Press the Setup/enter button to
enter the Setup menu.
Select VCR SETUP, press the
Return/OK button and then OSD
ON/OFF using the Arrow buttons.
To turn the OSD off, select OFF
using the Arrow buttons and press
the Return/OK button.
Setting up your DVD/
VCR/CD/MP3 Player to
receive TV stations
Important
Before you start, unplug all equipment from
the mains supply.
Connect your aerial to the ANT IN socket on
the rear of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player.
You can either connect the DVD/VCR/CD/
MP3 Player to the TV with an RF lead or a
Scart lead.
Plug the RF lead into the ANT OUT socket
on the rear of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3
Player and into the aerial lead of the TV.
or
Plug the Scart lead into the Scart socket on
the rear of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player
and into the Scart socket on the TV.
To connect a satellite system through an RF
lead, consult the satellite system user guide
and connect the aerial to the RF in socket on
the rear of the satellite decoder.
Connect an RF lead from the RF out socket
on the decoder to the ANT IN socket on the
rear of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player.
Plug the RF lead into the ANT OUT socket
on the rear of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3
Player and into the aerial lead of the TV.
General features

Press the Return/OK button on the
remote control until the LCD shows
RF 52 (about 5 seconds). The
DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player is now
transmitting its test signal on channel
52. To turn the test signal off, press
the Return/OK button again for
more than five seconds.
Consult your TV user guide for instructions of
how to tune the TV to the DVD/VCR/CD/
MP3 Player.
When tuning your TV, the following OSD
will be shown:
To connect a satellite system using Scart
leads, connect the Scart out socket of the
decoder to the EUROAV2/DECODER Scart
socket on the rear of the DVD/VCR/CD/
MP3 Player. Connect the EUROAV1 Scart
socket to the TV Scart socket.
Consult your TV user guide for instructions of
how to tune the TV to the DVD/VCR/CD/
MP3 Player.
Autoset
The first time you switch the DVD/VCR/
CD/MP3 Player on, the TV should show
AUTO SET.
Press the Return/OK button to
start AUTO SET.
If this does not appear, press the
Setup/enter button, select PR
PRESET with the Down arrow
button and press the Return/OK
button. A new screen will appear
with AUTO SET highlighted, press
the Return/OK button again to
start AUTO SET.
AUTO SET tunes in all the available stations
and then puts them into the most common
order i.e. BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, CH4, CH5,
SKY 1 etc.

If, during Autoset, a station is found that is
on the same channel as the RF output
channel of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player,
the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player will
recommend a new channel for RF output.
To accept this change, press the
Return/OK button.
You will then have to retune your TV.
Manual tuning
Press the Setup/enter button.
Select PR PRESET and press the
Return/OK button.
Select MANUAL SET and press the
Return/OK button.

Select the program number you
require to tune. Press the Return/
OK button.
PR
Set the program number with the
Left or Right arrow button.
Reception
Select the broadcast system, Aerial
(CH) or Cable(CC) with the Left or
Right arrow button.
Autosearch
If you know the channel number, you
can enter it directly using the
Numeric buttons or search using
the Right arrow button. When you
press the Right arrow button, the
autosearch will search for the next
station. When it finds one, it will be
displayed. If it is the one you require
stop searching, if not, continue the
search.
Fine tuning
In some areas where reception is poor, it may
be necessary to adjust the fine tuning to get
the best picture or sound.
In the MANUAL SET menu, select
FINE TUNING and press the
Return/OK button.
Use the Left or Right arrow button
to adjust the fine tuning to get the
best picture or sound.
Decoder
If you have a decoder connected to
the EUROAV2/DECODER socket,
press the Left or Right arrow
button to select On or Off.
Name
You can change or create a name for
the program you have selected. Press
the 0button to change the name.
Press the 1button to create a new
name. Use the Up or down arrow
button to change the letters and the
Left or Right arrow button to
move to the next letter.
When you have finished tuning, press
the Return/OK button to store the
station. You will be returned to the
program list menu ready to start
tuning the next program.
You can exit the Setup menu at any
time by pressing the Setup/enter
button.
Sorting program locations
You can change the order of the programs to
suit your yourself.
Press the Setup/enter button to
enter the Setup menu.

In the SETUP menu, select PR
PRESET and press the Return/OK
button. In the PR PRESET menu,
select PR ALIGN and press the
Return/OK button.
Select the program you require to
move and press the Return/OK
button. Use the Up or down
arrow button to move the program
to its new location. Press the
Return/OK button.
Deleting programs
Press the Setup/enter button to
enter the Setup menu.
In the Setup menu, select PR
PRESET and press the Return/OK
button. In the PR PRESET menu,
select PR ERASE and press the
Return/OK button.
Select the program you require to
delete. To review the program you
are about to delete, hold down the
Left arrow button. To delete the
program, press the Return/OK
button.

Using the VCR
To select the VCR, press the VCR
button on the remote control or the
Select button on the front of the
DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player. The
VHS LED will illuminate.
Playback
Insert a video cassette into the video slot.
will appear on the left of the LCD.

Allow the VCR to automatically load the
video cassette. If you try and push the video
cassette into the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player
you may damage the video cassette or the
VCR.
To eject the video cassette, press the
VCR eject button on the front of
the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player.
Press the Play/pause button.
VCR will appear above the symbol,
which will appear to start turning and PLAY
will appear briefly in the middle of the LCD.
The OSD will show PLAY SP or LP (short
play or long play) and the sound output i.e.
HI FI L & R.

Some pre-recorded cassettes may start to play
automatically when they are loaded. The
LCD and OSD displays will be the same as
above.
Pausing playback
Press the Play/pause button to
pause the playback.
The LCD will show STILL.
Press the Play/pause button again
to resume normal playback.
Stopping playback
Press the Stop button.
The LCD will show STOP and VCR
will disappear from above the
symbol which will stop turning.
Fast skip forward/reverse
During playback, press the Skip
forward button to fast forward
through the cassette. The LCD will
show CUE 1.
Press the Skip forward button
again to increase the speed of the
search. The LCD will show CUE 2.
To resume normal playback, press
the Play/pause button.
Press the Skip reverse button to go
fast backwards through the cassette.
The LCD will show REV 1.
Press the Skip reverse button again
to increase the speed of the search.
The LCD will show REV 2.
To resume normal playback, press
the Play/pause button.
Slow skip forward/reverse
Press the Play/pause button to
pause playback.
Press the Skip forward button.
The cassette will advance very slowly
and the LCD will show SLOW.

Frame advance
Press the Play/pause button to
pause playback.
Press the Next button. Each time
you press the button, the tape will
advance by one frame.
To resume normal playback, press
the Play/pause button.
Tracking
The VCR is fitted with an automatic tracking
system, however manual tracking adjustment
is provided.
The manual tracking should only be used if:
• The picture is poor in playback.
• There is noise at the top or bottom of the
screen in slow search.
• The paused picture is unstable.
To adjust the tracking, use the VCR
tracking +/- buttons until the
picture is watchable.
Rewind/Fast forward
To rewind a video cassette, press the
Skip reverse button whilst the
VCR is in the stop mode.
To fast forward through a video
cassette, press the Skip forward
button whilst the VCR is in the stop
mode.
To stop Rewind or Fast forward,
press the Stop button.
The rewind/fast forward will stop
automatically when the end of the
tape is reached.
Recording
Copyright Notice Warning
Most DVDs, compact discs, video cassettes,
television broadcasts contain material which
is the subject of copyright. It is unlawful to
record such material in any form whatsoever,
whether on disc or tape, without the
permission of the copyright owner concerned.
Any person who makes a recording of such
material without the consent of the copyright
owner infringes copyright and may be liable,
to pay substantial damages to the copyright
owner, and in some cases to criminal
prosecution.
To select the VCR, press the VCR
button on the remote control or the
Select button on the front of the
DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player. The
VHS LED will illuminate.
Switch on the TV and select the
video channel using the Channel
up or Channel down button on
the front of the DVD/VCR/CD/
MP3 Player.
Insert a blank, recordable video cassette into
the VCR.
If you are recording a program from the TV,
select the channel on the VCR. Confirm the
program is showing on the TV.
If you are recording from an external
input, press the Output button until
the external input appears on the TV
screen.
Select the recording speed (LP - long
play or SP - short play) with the
Speed record/angle button.
Press the Record button on the
front of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3
Player to start recording. The LCD
will show REC and the program you
are recording.

The LCD will show REC, the recording speed
and the program being recorded.
If you want to pause the recording,
press the Play/pause button. If
you leave the recording paused for
more than five minutes, the
recording is switched off
automatically.
To stop recording, press the Stop
button.
Whilst you are recording, you can
watch a DVD. Press the DVD
button on the remote control or the
Select button on the front of the
DVD/VCR/CD/MP3 Player so that
the DVD LED is illuminated.
Insert a DVD into the DVD tray and
press the Play/pause button.
You can watch another TV channel
whilst recording. Press the TV/VCR
button to view another channel.
Recording from DVD to Video
cassette
Select the DVD with the DVD
button.
Insert a DVD into the DVD tray and
insert a blank, recordable video
cassette into the VCR.
Press the Quick copy button on the
front of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3
Player or press the Play/pause
button. Press the VCR button and
press the Record button on the
front of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3
Player. The DVD will start to play
and the VCR will start to record.

Some DVDs have a copy prevention system.
If this is the case the OSD will show:
NO COPY DISK
PLEASE CONFIRM THE DISK
and the recording will stop.
To stop the recording, press the VCR
button and then press the Stop
button.
One touch recording
If you want to record from the TV but do not
have time to set up the timer, you can use the
one touch recording.
Follow the instructions under
Recording on Page 15 but do not
press the record button.
Press the Record button on the
front of the DVD/VCR/CD/MP3
Player once to start the recording
and then press it again. The LCD
will show REC 0:30. The VCR will
record for 30 minutes and then
switch off.
Every subsequent press of the
Record button will increase the
recording time by 30 minutes up to a
maximum of 10 hours.
The LCD will continue to show the
recording time as it counts down.
To stop recording, press the Stop
button until the LCD shows STOP
(about five seconds).

Recording using the timer
You have two methods of timer recordings,
VideoPlus and normal.

stations tuned before attempting to set the
timer.

Press the Setup/enter button to
enter the Setup menu.
Highlight Timer program and press
the Return/OK button twice.
Select how often you require to
record the program and press the
Return/OK button.

Enter the Program number, start time for the
recording, end time for the recording, date of
the recording (if not today), whether you
require Short Play or Long Play. Switch VPS/
PDC off as you are manually setting the timer.
Check your settings. If you wish to
make any changes use the Left or
Right arrow button. When you are
happy with your setting, press the
Return/OK button.
The OSD will then tell you to insert a video
cassette and turn off your VCR. The LCD
will show
 next to the .

If program timings overlap, the VCR will give
a warning message. If you do not adjust the
times, the VCR will record the first program
completely and then continue with the second
one.
If there is insufficient free space for the
recording on the video cassette, the VCR will
switch to LP to increase the recording
capacity.
The VCR will eject a video cassette if the
safety tab has been removed.

Press the Setup/enter button to
enter the Setup menu.

Select the program to change or
erase and press the Return/OK
button.
To erase the program, press the 0
button followed by the Return/OK
button.
If you require to make changes, move
to the position with the Left or
Right arrow button. Change the
settings using the Up or Down
arrow button and the Numeric
buttons. When the settings are
correct, press the Left or Right
arrow button until OK CONFIRM
appears on the bottom line. Press
the Return/OK button to confirm
and the Setup/enter button to exit
the menu.
Copying
To copy to your VCR from another
VCR, connect both machines with a
cable between their Scart sockets.
Select AV1 or AV2 using the Output
button or the Up or Down arrow
button.
Set the other VCR to playback and
yours to record.
To copy from your VCR to another
VCR, connect both machines with a
cable between their Scart sockets.
Select AV1 using the Output button
or the Up or Down arrow button.

You cannot use AV2 for this purpose as it is an
input only socket.
Set the other VCR to record and yours to
playback.
To copy from equipment such as a
camcorder, you can use the RCA
sockets on the front of the DVD/
VCR/CD/MP3 Player. Press the
Output button to select AV-F and
record as previously described.

VCR functions
Clock/counter display
Press the Clock/counter button,
the counter counts in real time from
the point the tape is at when you
load the video cassette. The counter
does not count unrecorded parts of
the tape. Pressing the Clock/
counter button again, reverts the
LCD to the current time.
If you rewind beyond the zero
position, the counter will show a
negative value.
Press the Display button once to
show, initially, the Time and date and
the current status at the bottom of
the screen. After a few seconds the
status will disappear.
Press the Display button twice to
show, initially, the counter and the
current status at the bottom of the
screen. After a few seconds the
status will disappear.
Press the Display button three
times to turn the display off.
Remaining time and Video
cassette length
This tells you how much time remains on a
video cassette so that you will know, for
example, if there is sufficient space for a
recording.
Press the Setup/enter button to
enter the Setup menu.
Select Tape control and press the
Return/OK button.
Select Tape Remain and press the
Return/OK button.
Select the length of video cassette
currently loaded and press the
Return/OK button.
The remaining tape will be displayed at the
bottom of the screen.
Counter zero position
Press the Setup/enter button to
enter the Setup menu.
Select Tape control and press the
Return/OK button.

Select GO TO ZERO and press the
Return/OK button. The VCR will
wind to the zero position and stop.
Reset the Counter
Press the Setup/enter button to
enter the Setup menu.
Select Tape control and press the
Return/OK button.
Select COUNTER RESET and
press the Return/OK button. The
counter will go to zero.
Wide screen format Playback/
recording
You can record or play programs in 16:9
format.
Press the Setup/enter button to
enter the Setup menu.
Select VCR SETUP and press the
Return/OK button.
Select 16:9 and press the Return/
OK button.
Auto
The VCR automatically detects the program
format (16:9 or 4:3) and records or plays this
program in the same format.
On
The VCR will play and record all programs
in 16:9 format.
Off
The VCR will play and record all programs
in 4:3 format.

To watch a program which is recorded in
16:9 format by the VCR, your TV must have
16:9 wide screen function and you have to
use a Scart lead.
