Description
The Greenlee CM-400 2-in-1 Pen-type Multimeter is intended to measure AC current,
resistance, AC/DC voltage, and to check diodes and verify continuity. The 3-3/4 digit LCD
display has a maximum reading of 3200, while the graph display has 65 segments.
The CM-400 jaw unit takes a current input and produces a voltage output. The ratio is 100:1.
Every amp of input will produce 10 millivolts of output.

Do not change the measurement function while the test leads are connected to a
component or circuit.

• Do not attempt to repair this unit. It contains no user-serviceable parts.
• Do not expose unit to extremes in temperature or high humidity. See Specifications.

Unless measuring voltage or current, shut off and lock out power. Make sure that all
capacitors are discharged. Voltage must not be present.
Set the selector and connect the test leads so that they correspond to the intended
measurement. Incorrect settings or connections can result in a blown fuse.
Using this unit near equipment that generates electromagnetic interference can result
in unstable or inaccurate readings.

Using the Features
RANGE Press to enable manual ranging. The icon will appear on the display.
Press the RANGE button repeatedly to select the proper measurement range.
Press and hold to return to the autoranging mode. The icon will
disappear from the display.
HOLD Press momentarily to hold the present value on the display. The icon will
appear. Press again to return to normal mode.

Operation
1. Set the selector and connect the leads according to the Settings Table. If using the manual
ranging mode, start with the highest measurement range.

3. Test the unit on a known functioning circuit or component.
• If the unit does not function as expected on a known functioning circuit, replace the
battery.
• If the unit still does not function as expected, send the unit to Greenlee for repair.
4. Take the reading from the circuit to be tested. If using the manual ranging mode and the
resolution is not satisfactory, remove the meter from the circuit and change to the next
lower range.
