SET-UP AND SAFETY ______________________________________________
In order that this quality, easy-to-use stereo system continues to provide you
with satisfaction and entertainment, please observe the following when setting it
up:
This stereo system is designed for the playback of audio signals.
Any other use is expressly prohibited.
Please note when setting up the stereo system, that furniture surfaces are
covered by various types of lacquer and plastic, most of which contain chemical
additives. These additives can, among other things, corrode the material of the
device stands, resulting in residues on the furniture surfaces which are difficult
or impossible to remove.
When the stereo system is subject to extreme variation in temperature,
for example during transportation from a cold area to a warm one, connect the
mains supply and let it stand for at least two hours without an inserted CD or
tape.
The stereo system is designed for use in dry rooms. If, however, you use it in the
open, ensure without fail that it is protected from moisture (rain, lawn
sprinklers).
Do not place the stereo system close to heating units or in direct sunlight. This
will impair cooling.
Do not insert any foreign bodies in the CD or tape compartment of the stereo-
system.
Do not open the stereo system under any circumstances. The manufacturer
accepts no liability for damage arising from improper handling.
Storms present a danger to all electrical devices. Even if the stereo system is
switched off, it can be damaged by a lightning strike to the mains and/or the
aerial cable. Always remove the mains plug before an electrical storm.
If the stereo system cannot scan CD’s perfectly, use a commercially available
cleaning CD to clean the laser optics. Other cleaning methods may damage the
laser optics.
Always keep the CD compartment closed to prevent dust from collecting on the
laser optics.

General instructions for laser devices
You will find a sign resembling the adjacent illustration on the back of your unit.
CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT signifies that the laser is safeguarded in such a way that
the maximum allowed radiation value can never be exceeded under any
circumstances.
Caution:
If operation devices or methods other than those specified here are employed, this
may lead to dangerous radiation exposure.
Invisible laser radiation emerges when the CD compartment is opened and when
the safety-lock is bypassed. Do not expose yourself to this radiation.

Connection
Connecting the aerial
1Insert the house aerial in the aerial socket »FM 75 Ω« of the stereo
system.
Note:
If no house aerial system is available, use the supplied auxiliary aerial. This
aerial enables reasonably good reception of local FM (VHF) stations.
The auxiliary aerial should not be shortened.
2Insert the cables for the supplied frame aerial in the »EXT. ANT AM
LOOP « terminals. Position the frame aerial to achieve the best MW/LW-
reception possible.
Connecting the loudspeakers
1Insert the loudspeaker plugs in the jacks »L R SPEAKERS 4 ΩMIN « of
the stereo system.
R = right channel, L = left channel.
Connecting external device
1Connect the sound output jacks of the external device (for example,
television, DVD-player, etc.) to the jacks »IN R L VIDEO (AUDIO) « of the
stereo system using a cinch cable.
Note:
Switch the stereo system off to connect external signal sources. Make sure
stereo channels are properly connected:
R = right channel (red), L = left channel (white).

Connecting a digital recording device
1Connect jack »OPTICAL OUT« on the stereo system by an OPTICAL cable
to the appropriate jack on the external device (e.g., MD or CDR).
– A CD playback can be recorded by a digital recording device via this jack.
Connecting headphones
1Insert the jack plug for the headphone in the »PHONES « jack of the stereo
system.
– The loudspeakers of the stereo system are switched off.
Connecting mains cable
1Insert the mains cable in the socket.
Caution:
The only way to isolate the stereo system from the mains supply is to pull the
plug.

Preparation for use
Inserting the batteries in the remote control
1Open the battery compartment by pressing the snap-catch, and remove
the lid.
2When inserting the batteries (type micro, for example, AAA R 03, 2 x1,5 V),
observe the polarity marked on the base of the battery compartment.
Note:
If the stereo no longer reacts properly to remote control commands, the
batteries may be flat. Always remove flat batteries. There is no liability for
damage resulting from flat batteries.
Environmental note
Batteries, including those which are heavy metal-free, may not be disposed
of along with household waste. Please ensure the environmentally sound
disposal of the used batteries, e.g. via public collection locations. Find out
about the legal regulations which apply to you.

Setting the time
When the stereo is connected to the mains supply and the time has not been set,
the time display flashes.
Note:
Perform the setting in switched-off state.
1Activate time-setting function by pressing » CLOCK TIMER« and holding
down.
– In the display, » ´´« flashes.
2Press » MEMORY« and set the hour with »– VOLUME +«.
3Press » MEMORY« and set the minute with »– VOLUME +«.
4Confirm input with »MEMORY«.
Note:
The time must be reset after a power failure or when the mains plug is pulled
out.
Setting the time for 12-hour display
1Switch on stereo system by pressing »88ON «.
2Press »SOURCE« until »TAPE« appears in the display.
3Activate the time-setting function by pressing » CLOCK TIMER«.
– In the display, for example, » I4:00 « appears.
4Press » MEMORY« and hold down while pressing » eII «.
– » PM « appears briefly in the display; the time has been switched to
12-hour display.
Note:
Repeat procedure to set for 24-hour display.

Settings for radio stations
There are two options for tuning to radio stations:
– Automatic search.
The stations are automatically saved at unoccupied channel positions.
– Automatic station search.
There are 24 channel positions available for FM radio stations and 12 channel
positions each for MW and LW radio stations.
Search for and save all radio stations –
with the automatic search
Note:
Every time automatic station search is restarted, the previously saved stations
are erased.
1Switch on stereo system with »TUNER/BAND«.
2Select desired frequency range (FM, MW or LW) with »TUNER/BAND«.
– In the display, » FM 87.50 « may, for example appear.
3Start automatic search for the FM range, by keeping »MEMORY« on the
stereo system pressed down until » « in the display flashes.
– The search for stations is started and works its way through the frequency
band from start to finish.
– The radio stations are saved automatically.
– If RDS information is transmitted by the respective station, then the stereo
systems saves the station name.
4To tune in stations in the » MW « and » LW « ranges, repeat procedure starting
from point 2.
Note:
Channel positions for radio stations with weak reception can be reset, see
setting instructions on Page 14.

Searching for and saving radio stations –
with the automatic station search
Note:
When making this setting, no more than 5 seconds may elapse between
pressing various keys.
1Switch on stereo system with »TUNER/BAND«.
2Select desired frequency range (FM, MW or LW) with »TUNER/BAND«.
– In the display, » FM 87.50 « may, for example appear.
3Start the automatic station search for the FM range by keeping
»aa TUNE –« or »TUNE +ss« on the remote control pressed down.
– The search stops, as soon as a radio station with a sufficiently strong signal
is found.
– The frequency of the station can be tuned step-by-step (50 kHz) with
»aa TUNE –« or »TUNE +ss« on the remote control.
4Press »MEMORY« and select the desired station with »PRESET« or
»1 ... 0« on the remote control (1 to 24 in the FM range, 1 to 12 in
the MW and LW ranges).
– The selected channel position appears in the display, » FM PR:02 «, for
example, and in the case of RDS stations, the station name appears
directly afterwards.
5Save setting with »MEMORY«.
– In the display, the selected channel position will appear, for example
» FM PR:02 «.
6To tune into other radio stations in the FM range, repeat procedure from
point 3, for the ranges » MW « and » LW «, repeat from point 2.

This function projects the acoustic pattern of the stereo effect more widely.

The input always has two digits, for example »1 2« for channel position 12.

Stereo/mono reception
When the stereo system receives FM stereo stations, »ST« appears in the
display.
If the signal of the FM stereo station is weak and thus has poor sound quality,
you can switch to mono reception with »FM MODE « on the remote control.

Special features in tuner mode
RDS programme service
RDS channels in FM range also transmit their station names.
1Call up channel name, by continuing to press »RDS MODE « on the stereo
system, until »PS« appears in the display. The station name will appear
directly afterwards.
Note:
If the RDS programme service is not provided by the selected station,
»NO PS« appears in the display, then the station frequency.
Radiotext
Some RDS stations transmit ”radiotext” information. This is additional in-
formation on the station and its programme. ”Radiotext” appears as running
text in the display. As this information is transmitted character by character, it
may take some time before the text is received in full.
1Call up ”radiotext” by continuing to press »RDS MODE « on the stereo
system until »RT« appears in the display. The ”radiotext” will appear directly
afterwards.
Note:
If ”radiotext” is not provided by the selected station, »NO RT« appears in the
display, then the station frequency.
2Switch off ”radiotext” by pressing »RDS MODE « on the stereo system.

PTY programme type code
RDS provides the option of selecting FM stations according to programme type.
A total of 31 programme types are defined.
1Call up programme type, by continuing to press »RDS MODE « on the
stereo system, until »PTY« appears in the display.
2Select the required programme type with »– VOLUME + PTY SELECT « on
the stereo system.
– The programme type appears in the display.
3Start the search for programme type by pressing »FREVERSE « on the
stereo system within 10 seconds.
– The stereo systems searches its 24 channel positions for a station with the
selected programme type.
Note:
If no station with the required programme type can be found, then
»NO PTY« will appear in the display.

CD MODE___________________________________________________________________________
Basic functions of CD mode
Do not attach adhesive labels to CD’s.
Keep the surfaces of CD’s clean.
To clean, use a lint-free cloth and always wipe from the centre of the CD
outwards in a straight line.
Do not use cleaning solution for traditional records or solvent or abrasive
cleaner to clean CD’s.
You can play 12 cm CD’s as well as 8 cm CD’s on your stereo system. An
adapter is not necessary.
Selecting CD programme source
1Select programme source with » eII «,
or
Switch on stereo system with »88ON « and press »SOURCE « on the stereo
system until »CD« appears in the display.
– If there is no CD in the CD compartment, »NO DISC« appears in the
display.
Insert CD
1Open the CD compartment by pressing ».CD OPEN/CLOSE« at the top
of the stereo system.
– The CD compartment opens.
– Display: »OPEN«.
2Insert the desired CD in the CD compartment with the printing facing
upwards.
3Close the lid of the CD compartment (marked ».CD OPEN/CLOSE«).
– The stereo system scans the content of the CD.
– The number of titles and the total playing time appear in the display, for
example »I6 67:00«, as well as a ”music catalogue” from 1 to 16.
