New AFS-2 system replacing the original AFS (Aerodynamical Flaps System) in Hadron XX.
The AFS-2 completely eliminates a mistake of simultaneous using both the AFS and the trimmers. It is activated by
inserting the pins. When the trimmers are released, the pins are automatically removed and the AFS-2 becomes
inactive. Still, proper deactivation of the AFS-2 means that the pins are removed by the pilot and not by mistaken
trimmer operation.
Dudek Paragliders reminds that engaging the speedsystem under active AFS-2 remains prohibited, and the
new design does not protect you from such an error.
AFS-2 can be used for nil-wind take offs, even when this is not absolutely necessary. It can be used for thermal
flying too, or for nil-wind landing.
Activating the AFS-2 while in flight requires both hands, so it can prove uncomfortable for some pilots. Therefore we
advise to use caution, or abandon the action at all (the paraglider does not behave that much differently).
Activating the AFS-2 in flight should be done while gliding in still air (idling). Unsymmetrical activation causes a slow
turn at first. The turn is decreasing so does not cause danger, nevertheless pilot should be prepared for that and
plan the landing approach accordingly.
Details of the new AFS-2 system can be found in recent version of the Hadron XX manual.
Proper deactivation of the AFS-2 is done by removing the pins. Nevertheless, if by any chance pilot will mistakenly release
the trimmers under active AFS-2 (inserted pins), the pins will be removed automatically.
AFS-2 system not active. Trimmers and speed system can be used. AFS-2 system is active.
