FOR MORE INFO, REFERENCE MANUAL P/N 029-9100-01-0 3
4.8 Open the fuel line shut off valve and prime the carburetor using the fuel line primer bulb (refer to
manual for location and operation).
4.9 Flip the Run/Stop switch to Run, close the Choke Shutter, open the Throttle Lever Handle to 1/4
throttle, and pull the starting cord. Repeat pulling cord until engine fires –adjust Choke Shutter as
necessary.
4.10 When engine fires, open Choke Shutter and idle the engine. Do not race the engine. (If the engine
dies, open Choke Shutter fully and start engine again.)
4.11 Prime the water pump.
4.12 Run engine for 3 minutes to warm engine.
4.13 Once engine is warmed up, ensure the Throttle Lever Handle is closed (idle).
4.14 Slowly adjust the Idle-Speed Adjustment Screw counterclockwise to allow the engine to run as low
RPM as possible without shutting off (ensure Idle-Speed Adjustment Screw maintains contact with
Throttle Stop Lever).
4.15 Slowly adjust the Low-Speed Mixture Screw (begin adjusting clockwise in 1/8 turn increments –if
engine does not speed up, change to counterclockwise adjustment) to achieve smooth engine per-
formance and maximum rpm at that idle speed setting.
4.16 Advance engine to full throttle.
4.17 Slowly adjust the High-Speed Mixture Screw (begin adjusting counterclockwise in 1/8 turn incre-
ments –if engine does not speed up, change to clockwise adjustment) to achieve smooth operation
and maximum RPM (at least 5400 rpm) under load (~70 gpm).
4.18 Test the throttle response by quickly going from idle to full throttle. If the engine bogs or hesitates,
begin slowly adjusting the Low-Speed Mixture Screw counterclockwise until the hesitation is elimi-
nated. Poor acceleration is a result of having the low-speed mixture set too lean.
4.19 Flip the Run/Stop switch to Stop.
4.20 If air filter was removed at the beginning of this process, re-attach air filter.
