Havis is pleased to provide this Owner’s Manual to aid in the proper installation and use of the DS-DELL-900 Series
Docking Station for the 7230 Latitude Rugged Extreme Tablet

This Owner’s Manual applies to the following Part Numbers:
•NEVER STOW OR MOUNT THE DOCKING STATION DIRECTLY IN A VEHICLE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT ZONE.
•DO NOT USE THE COMPUTER WHILE DRIVING.
•READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY BEFORE BEGINNING INSTALLATION.
•DO NOT STORE, INSTALL, OR OPERATE THE DOCKING STATION WHERE WATER, MOISTURE, STEAM, DUST, ETC.

DIRECTLY TO VEHICLE VOLTAGE SOURCE: This product requires a certified, automotive grade, Dell/Havis
approved power cable for a 12 V power input (Havis part number DS-DA-339 or equivalent). Failure to comply
with this requirement will cause product damage that is NOT repairable and is NOT covered under warranty.

•Do not place metal objects or containers of liquid on top of the Docking Station
•If a malfunction occurs, immediately unplug the power cable and remove the tablet
•Use only the specified Power Cable (DS-DA-339) with this Docking Station
•Do not connect cables into ports other than what they are specified for
•Do not leave the Docking Station in a high temperature environment (greater than 85°C, 185°F) for a
long period of time
•Do not attempt to dock the tablet backwards, or damage may result (See page 10)

Installation
1. Align Docking Station mounting holes with the hole pattern on mounting device. Use the (4) Pan
Head screws with washers and lock washers from the hardware kit (HWK-0031) to fasten the docking
station to the motion device (Hardware Kit Items 3, 4 & 5). Torque screws to 80 in-lbs (9.0 Nm) ± 10%

2. Install all of the cables that are necessary for your computing needs. Use zip ties (Hardware Kit Item 1)
to strain relieve cables to strain relief points, routing all cables together so they can be attached to the
mounting system
Cable Management
Use as many zip
ties as necessary
to secure cables

shown. Leave additional
slack to allow motion
device to move freely
without stressing cables.
Create a service loop if
there is excess cable
3. Create a service loop with cable bundle to ensure no tension is on the connectors and to enable
intended motion.
4. Tie off cables onto a stationary part of the mounting system
(Mounting system not included with the docking station)

Operation - Docking
1. Ensure docking station is unlatched by pressing the lock button on the top of the docking station.
2. Hold the tablet in the landscape orientation, with the bottom side angled towards the docking station.
Lower the tablet onto the docking station by aligning the tablet alignment sockets with the alignment
posts on the docking station.
⚠CAUTION
DO NOT FORCE TABLET ONTO DOCKING STATION. IF THERE IS RESISTANCE,
CHECK THE ALIGNMENT OF THE TABLET ON DOCKING STATION

DO NOT DOCK TABLET BACKWARDS IN THE
DOCKING STATION OR DAMAGE TO THE SCREEN,
TABLET ELECTRONICS, AND DOCKING STATION
ELECTRONICS WILL RESULT

Operation –Docking (Continued)
3. Pivot the top of the tablet into the docking station and apply light rearward pressure to the
top center of tablet or handle. Apply pressure until the tablet is fully seated. Secure tablet by
closing the latch, push downward until you hear the click of the latch which indicates the latch
is securely closed.
4. For theft deterrence, secure tablet by locking the docking station with the supplied key
(Hardware Kit Item 2)

Operation - Undocking
2. While securely holding the tablet, push the lock button on the top of the docking
station until the latch hook releases.
1. If previously locked, unlock Docking Station using the supplied key.
3. Once unlatched, remove the tablet by rocking the top of the tablet away from the
docking station and carefully lift out of the docking station, top end first.

NOTE: THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO THE DS-DELL-903 & DS-DELL-903-4 CONFIGURATION (THESE DO NOT HAVE AN
INTERNAL SUPPLY AND NEED TO BE POWERED WITH THE EXTERNAL PORT WHEN DOCKED).
DO NOT CONNECT ANY ADDITIONAL POWER SUPPLY
TO THE TABLET WHEN IT IS DOCKED. MULTIPLE POWER
SUPPLIES WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TABLET
