1. Spaorhottubwatertemperaturesshouldneverexceed104°F[40°C].Atemperatureof100°F
[38°C]isconsideredsafeforahealthyadult.Specialcautionissuggestedforyoungchildren.Pro-
longedimmersioninhotwatercaninducehyperthermia.
2. Drinkingofalcoholicbeveragesbeforeorduringspaorhottubusecancausedrowsiness,which
couldleadtounconsciousnessandsubsequentlyresultindrowning.
3. Pregnantwomenbeware!Soakinginwaterabove100°F[38°C]cancausefetaldamageduringthe
rstthreemonthsofpregnancy(resultinginthebirthofabrain-damagedordeformedchild).Preg-
nantwomenshouldadheretothe100°F[38°C]maximumrule.
4. Beforeenteringthespaorhottub,usersshouldcheckthewatertemperaturewithanaccuratether-
mometer;spaorhottubthermostatsmayerrinregulatingwatertemperaturesbyasmuchas4°F
(2.2°C).
5. Personstakingmedications,whichinducedrowsiness,suchastranquilizers,antihistaminesoranti-
coagulants,shouldnotusespasorhottubs.
6. Ifthepool/spaisusedfortherapy,itshouldbedonewiththeadviceofaphysician.Alwaysstirpool/
spawaterbeforeenteringthepool/spatomixinanyhotsurfacelayerofwaterthatmightexceed
healthfultemperaturelimitsandcauseinjury.Donottamperwithcontrols,becausescaldingcan
resultifsafetycontrolsarenotinproperworkingorder.
7. Personswithamedicalhistoryofheartdisease,circulatoryproblems,diabetesorbloodpressure
problemsshouldobtainaphysiciansadvicebeforeusingspasorhottubs.
8. Hyperthermiaoccurswhentheinternaltemperatureofthebodyreachesalevelseveraldegrees
abovenormalbodytemperatureof98.6°F[37°C].ThesymptomsofHyperthermiainclude:drowsi-
ness,lethargy,dizziness,fainting,andanincreaseintheinternaltemperatureofthebody.
The effects of Hyperthermia include:
1. Unawarenessofimpendingdanger.
2. Failuretoperceiveheat.
3. Failuretorecognizetheneedtoleavethespa.
4. Physicalinabilitytoexitthespa.
5. Fetaldamageinpregnantwomen.
6. Unconsciousnessresultingindangerofdrowning.

TheheatexchangerinyourHaywardpoolheaterismadefromthehighestqualityofcopperandnickel
(Cupronickel)materials.Thepremiummaterialsandtheexactingprocessesusedinthemanufactureofthe
heatexchangerisstateoftheartinpoolheaterdesignandmanufacture.Yet,itremainsvitalthattheheatex-
changerbeprotectedfromdamagingorcorrosivechemicals,insufcientwateroworimproperlybalanced
waterchemistry.Heatexchangerdamageorfailureresultingfromimproperow,improperlybalancedpool
waterortheimproperadditionofsanitizersintothewaterisNOTcoveredunderthetermsofyourwarranty.
Thefollowingfactorsarecriticaltoheatexchangerprotection.Followtheseguidelinestohelpprevent
pre-maturedamageorfailuretoyourheaterandheatexchanger.
1. WATER FLOW THROUGH HEATER
Watermustbeowingthroughtheheaterattheminimumratedowrateduringoperation.Checkthat
thepumpisoperatingandthesystemislledwithwaterandpurgedofallairpriortostartingtheheater.The
minimumratedowratesarelistedintheinstallationmanualonpage25.Someinstallationsmayrequirean
adjustmenttothewaterpressureswitchforproperlow-owprotection.Testyoursystemandifnecessary,
adjustthewaterpressureswitchasdescribedintheinstallationmanualonpage34.
2. POOL/SPA WATER CHEMISTRY
Thechemistrybalanceandmineralcontentofswimmingpoolwaterchangesdailyduetotheadditionof
poolandsanitizingchemicals,batherloads,rain,runoffandtheamountofsun-tonameafew.Improperchem-
istrybalanceandmineralcontentcancausescalinganddepositstoformonpoolwalls,intheltrationsystem,
intheheatexchangertubesandadditionallycanpromotecorrosiveactiontoallmetalsinthewaterpath.Chang-
ingspawaterregularlyandmaintainingthecorrectchemicalbalanceinyourpool/spawillkeepthepool/spa
safeandsanitary,andwillhelpprotecttheheatexchanger.Usea4-waypool/spawatertestkittocheckyour
waterfrequently(atleastweekly).Usethefollowingguidelinestohelpprotectyourheater’sheatexchanger:

4. CHLORINATOR INSTALLATION
Chlorinatorsmustbeinstalleddownstreamoftheheater,andacheckvalvemustbeinstalledbetweenthe
heaterandchlorinatortopreventhighchemicalconcentrationsfrombackowingintotheheater.Makesureyour
pipingarrangementmeetsthechlorinatorinstallationrequirementsshownintheinstallationmanualonpage26.
5. BYPASS
Untilwaterchemistryisproperlybalanced,andifyourpipinghasabypassvalveinstalledfortheheater,
openthebypasssothatcorrosiveandpotentiallydamagingwaterwillnotowthroughtheheaterandthere-
foretheheatexchanger.Closethebypassvalveoncethewaterisproperlybalanced.Failuretoclosethe
bypassvalvewhenattemptingtooperatetheheaterwillresultinextensivedamagetotheheatexchanger.
Ensurewaterowthroughtheheaterisrestoredbeforeoperatingtheheater.Abypassfeatureisalsoadvanta-
geousforserviceneedsandfortheabilitytoremovetheheaterfromthewaterpathwhennotheating.Refer
topage25intheinstallationmanualforfurtherinformation.

KEYPAD INPUTS
Thecontrolacceptsuserinputsviathekeypadonthefrontpanel.
1. Whenchangingthemodefrom“STANDBY”toeither“SPA”or“POOL”theremaybeuptoa10-
seconddelayfortheblowerfantobeginrunning.Thecontrolperformsaninternalself-testandthen
veriesthattheblowervacuumswitchcontactsareopenbeforeenergizingtheblower.
2. Itisnormalfortheheatertodisplaya1-to2-seconddelayinrespondingtoanykeypadinput.
3. Itisnormalfortheheatertodisplayuptoa5-seconddelaywhenthekeypadisusedtoresetthecon-
troltoclearanerrorcode.
4. Thecontrolwillacceptamodechangeduringlockoutafter5seconds.Thecontrolwillcontinueto
displaytheerrorcodeandremaininlockoutuntilitisreset.Atresetthecontrolwillgotothelast
savedmode.
OPERATION: SET POINT ADJUSTMENT:
Thesetpointtemperatureisdisplayedbypressingthe“UP”or“DOWN”buttonswhilein“POOL”or
“SPA”mode.Thesetpointwillblinkwhileitisdisplayed.Furtherpressingofthe“UP”or“DOWN”buttons
willadjustthesetpointtemperatureupordownasdesired.Thesetpointrangeisbetween65°F(18°C)and
104°F(40°C).
FAHRENHEIT VERSUS CELSIUS:
ThetemperaturecanbedisplayedinFahrenheitorCelsius.TOchangethedisplay,usethe“MODE”but-
tontoplacetheheaterin“STANDBY”.Thenpressandholdthe“UP”and“MODE”buttonsuntilthedisplay
showsthe°F/°Cselection.Pressthe“DOWN”buttontotogglebetweenselections.Toaccepttheselection,

transportationchargespaidbytheuser.Anyreplacementpoolheaterfurnishedunderthiswarrantyshallre-
